THE LAST STATION

“The Last Station” – the peace-promoting play whose cast includes well-known figures from both sides of the political divide – will be extended and staged nationwide after what was supposed to be the final performance on Saturday. The play, which debuted on Friday, was set on a train and told the story of how people with different political stances can live together peacefully.

Participants of the King Prajadhipok Institute peace course included red-shirt activist Sombat Boonngamanong and Democrat politician Tankhun Jittitsara who acted in the play. The performers yesterday spoke with National Reform Steering Assembly members, led by vice president Alongkorn Ponlaboot, about the promotion of reform and peace in the country.

The play gained positive feedback, said Sombat. Top officials who watched the play were also impressed, he said, and included Deputy Prime Minister and PM’s Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul. After the meeting with the NRSA, Sombat said the play would be performed throughout the country at the assembly’s request.

The storyline will be extended and the play will be held in a real travelling train, with top officials and political activists joining trips, he said. In the train, there will also be a discussion on how to create sustainable peace to make the country better, he said, adding that the activity is yet to be finalised and required further discussion.

The director of the play, Piyanuch Narkkong, agreed with the NRSA move to use the students of the peace course in the peace-building process. “This group of people used to be leading political activists … they are the ones who understand the root causes,” Piyanuch said.
