Police found the body of a teenage girl with a fatal stab wound in her neck when they responded to a report of a fist fight at 2.30am in Tambon Klong 6 area. A 21-year-old man identified as Chalermpol Jankaew had suffered two stab wounds in his torso and was rushed to Thanyaburi Hospital.

An 18-year-old female eyewitness told police that she and friends went to have a drink at a nearby pub when a group of men approached them and asked for her phone number. She refused and walked out of the pub.

She said a fight broke out between Chalermpol, who was her ex-boyfriend, and the men.

Following the brawl, the men tried to flee but four of them were captured by nearby residents and handed over to police. The four suspects were later identified as the alleged stabber Thanin Sompong, 23, Weerachai Pulthawee, 20, Suriyong Thingcharoen, 26 and Nanthapiwat Wongreed, 20.

Thanin told police that he knew the 18-year-old witness. He claimed that Chalermpol saw the girl with his group and this led to the fist fight.

Police say he admitted stabbing Chalermpol and the 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death unintentionally.

Pol Lt Col Benjapol Rodsawat, deputy commander of Sa Kaew Immigration Office, said about 100,000 bottles of drinking water were passing through the checkpoint each day.

Benjapol said immigration officers checked the documents of Cambodian vendors after they were seen transporting the water in cars and on pulling carts.

The vendors provided proof that they had bought the water from the Rong Klua market and no illegal items were found hidden among the cargo.

Benjapol said he had talked to the Cambodian vendors and found that there is not enough drinking water on the other side of the border, so they came to buy the drinking water at increased prices.

Evidence suggests the minor was sexually attacked in Dan Chang district in Suphan Buri last November and then coerced into the flesh trade.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Division (AHTD) has already taken action on this case, because the victim was a minor and the alleged crime against her constituted human trafficking – not just prostitution.

The girl was hospitalised for three weeks after the incident and suffered both physical and emotional trauma. She has been put under the care of a state-run shelter for rehabilitation.

Her mother lamented yesterday that she was so sad that she would prefer die than see her daughter undergo such a horrific ordeal.

“Please give us justice,” she said with a shaky voice yesterday after a meeting with Deputy National Police Commissioner General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul and AHTD chief Kornchai Klayklueng.

The investigation into the alleged gang rape and pressure to do commercial sex work has progressed quickly after lawyer Songkran Atchariyasap, who chairs a network that targets threats to the nation, religion and monarchy, helped the victim’s family contact relevant officials.

On Tuesday, Srivara agreed to meet the girl’s mother and look into the case.

Several suspects have now been arrested in connection with the alleged crimes against the girl.

Songkran yesterday submitted further evidence to police, saying there were three to four more suspects in the sexual procurement ring.

Kornchai said police were in the process of seeking an arrest warrant for at least one more suspect.

They stopped trading at the border for a week to protest after Thai security staff banned Thai residents living outside the province from visiting the casino.

The casino made headlines after anti-corruption activist Veera Somkwamkid claimed it sat on the overlapping territory between Thailand and Cambodia and he questioned why the military allowed this to happen.

At the opening of the casino on April 7, Thai residents living outside the province and those having no invitation were not allowed to cross the border without official passports.

However, initial autopsy reports by the Institute of Forensic Medicine found that Samran sustained five gunshot wounds while Rungthip and the baby were each shot once, the source said. It appeared that the fire was a case of arson to cover up the killings.

Police have now identified a suspect who lives not far from the victims’ home, the source said. declining to give details of a possible motive.

Local vendors informed lifeguards of the man’s disappearance at about 9am, saying that he simply never returned after going into the water.

Lifeguards hopped onto their jet-skis to search the sea. Patong Police officers, Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation workers and concerned tourists were also present at the scene.

Police found British sterling bank notes and a hotel keycard in his pocket. Officers are now trying to confirm his identity and figure out what exactly happened to him.
