A Xinhua team toured the citys rapid transit system and its operational center, where Juan Carlos Holguin Aguirre, until recently head of the Metrorrey General Directorate, said the Chinese company “exceeded expectations,” since it delivered ahead of schedule despite the COVID-19 pandemic, yet still with necessary technical training carried out.

Since childhood, Catalino Hinojosa has developed a liking for everything about trains. Today, he is on the staff of a Chinese-made smart train in the Mexican city of Monterrey, capital of northern Nuevo Leon state.

Hinojosa told Xinhua he still remembered the old passenger and freight trains on which his father had worked for the country’s national railroad company, Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico, in the first half of the 1900s.

While he never got to work there, he is proud and satisfied to work as a train conductor for the Monterrey Collective Transport System (Metrorrey), the city’s 30-year-old electric light rail network, which travels both underground and overground.

Nuevo Leon opened an international bid to add a third line to Metrorrey’s two existing lines, with China’s CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. emerging as the winner to deliver 26 new rail cars. Line 3 was inaugurated in February.

Like his colleagues, Hinojosa recognizes the performance, modernity and comfort of the Chinese cars for conductors and passengers alike.

The arrival of the Chinese cars, he said, meant “development and the beginning of an era of prosperity” for commuters and Nuevo Leon as a whole, since it boosted the local economy, created jobs and increased connectivity.

“It’s been very inspiring for me because we have never had such a technologically-advanced train. The cabin, control panel and dashboard all have state-of-the-art technology,” the conductor said.

He also acknowledged China’s efforts in enhancing infrastructure and communications networks as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, saying it not only brings trade but also development to the people.

A Xinhua team toured the city’s rapid transit system and its operational center, where Juan Carlos Holguin Aguirre, until recently head of the Metrorrey General Directorate, said the Chinese company “exceeded expectations,” since it delivered ahead of schedule despite the COVID-19 pandemic, yet still with necessary technical training carried out.

“We are very happy with the service, the price, the quality. So far it has been a successful acquisition, and I believe that if there is a future acquisition (of trains), the number one option with the quality we have now will be obvious,” he said.

Now an increasing number of Monterrey commuters are seeking to get on the modern China-made train cars, citing advanced technology and comfort, including climate control as the main reasons, according to a Xinhua survey.

Biden says Justice Department should prosecute those who refuse Jan. 6 committees subpoenas #SootinClaimon.Com

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden said Friday that the Department of Justice should prosecute those who defy subpoenas from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, the most he has weighed in on possible consequences for aides of former president Donald Trump who have refused to comply with the panels demands.

Biden says Justice Department should prosecute those who refuse Jan. 6 committees subpoenas

“Ihope the committee goes after them and holds them accountable,” Biden told reporters Friday evening, when asked what should happen to those who defy subpoenas from the congressional committee.

The bipartisan panel is investigating the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob trying to stop the certification of Biden’s electoral college win, an attack that resulted in five deaths and left some 140 members of law enforcement injured.

The committee has subpoenaed records and testimony about activities related to the Jan. 6 insurrection from several former Trump advisers, including Mark Meadows, Kash Patel, Dan Scavino and Stephen Bannon. Through an attorney, Trump has instructed those advisers not to comply, arguing that such records are protected by “executive and other privileges.”

When asked Friday if the Justice Department should prosecute those who refuse the committee’s subpoenas, Biden responded, “I do. Yes.”

Shortly after Biden’s remarks, the Justice Department tried to distance itself from any implications the White House was influencing decisions there.

“The Department of Justice will make its own independent decisions in all prosecutions based solely on the facts and the law. Period. Full stop,” Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley said in a statement Friday.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki, too, later sought to clarify Biden’s comments and emphasize the separation between the branches of government.

“As [Biden] has said many times, January 6th was one of the darkest days in our democracy,” Psaki tweeted Friday night. “He supports the work of the committee and the independent role of the Department of Justice to make any decisions about prosecutions.”

Trump has said he will exert “executive privilege” to resist any cooperation with the House select committee investigating Jan. 6, banking on a legal theory that has successfully allowed presidents and their aides to avoid or delay congressional scrutiny for decades.

As a former president, Trump would need the Biden administration to assert executive privilege. Biden, however, has indicated he will probably share with Congress information about Trump’s activities on Jan. 6 if asked.

For nearly a year, Trump has baselessly claimed that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him, and the former president has continued to push Republican-led audits of election results and sow doubt in the integrity of elections in the country.

On Thursday, the committee said it will move to hold Bannon in criminal contempt for not complying with its subpoena. Bannon was a former White House chief strategist and senior counselor to Trump.

“The Select Committee will use every tool at its disposal to get the information it seeks, and witnesses who try to stonewall the Select Committee will not succeed,” committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said in a statement then.

The panel has opted to give other former Trump officials more time to comply with its subpoenas.

Meadows and Patel were both scheduled to appear before the committee by the end of this week for closed-door interviews and are now expected to be provided an extension or continuance, according to three people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the decision has not been announced.

Meadows served as Trump’s chief of staff at the end of his administration, and Patel served as chief of staff to acting defense secretary Christopher Miller on Jan. 6.

Because the delivery of the subpoena to Scavino, Trump’s former deputy chief, was delayed, the committee postponed his scheduled deposition this week, according to a select committee aide.

The NFL season has been relatively unaffected thus far by coronavirus-related disruptions. But the Arizona Cardinals encountered issues this week and announced Friday that Coach Kliff Kingsbury will miss Sundays game at Cleveland after he tested positive for the virus.

Cardinals Kliff Kingsbury wont coach Sunday after positive coronavirus test

Kingsbury becomes the first NFL head coach to miss a game this season under the coronavirus protocols.

According to the Cardinals, quarterbacks coach Cam Turner and defensive tackle Zach Allen also tested positive for the coronavirus and will miss Sunday’s game.

All NFL coaches are required to be vaccinated to maintain their eligibility to work closely with players. Under the protocols developed by the league and the NFL Players Association, a vaccinated staffer or player can return to team activities by remaining free of symptoms and having two negative coronavirus tests 24 hours apart.

Any unvaccinated player who tests positive, by contrast, must be in isolation for at least 10 days.

The Cardinals placed linebacker Chandler Jones on their covid-19 reserve list Tuesday. That list is for players who test positive and those identified through contact tracing as having been exposed to the virus.

The team said that defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers will share head coaching duties Sunday. Joseph is the former head coach of the Denver Broncos. The Cardinals, at 5-0, are the NFL’s only remaining unbeaten team.

British lawmaker dies after being stabbed multiple times while meeting constituents #SootinClaimon.Com

LONDON – A long-serving British lawmaker from the Conservative Party died after being stabbed multiple times in an attack Friday while meeting with constituents in a church building in his home district.

British lawmaker dies after being stabbed multiple times while meeting constituents

Police said that a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and that a knife was recovered. No motive was offered. Police did not reveal the man’s identity. But early Saturday, the counterterrorism division of London’s Metropolitan Police force formally declared the incident as an act of terrorism.

“The early investigation has revealed a potential motivation linked to Islamist extremism,” a police statement said, adding that they believed the man acted alone.

“We are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident at this time,” the statement said. “As part of the investigation, officers are currently carrying out searches at two addresses in the London area and these are ongoing.”

David Amess, 69, who represented Southend West in Essex, was meeting with local residents about an hour’s drive east of London when he was killed. Amess received treatment at the scene of the assault but died there, police said.

Fellow politicians decried the killing of Amess as horrific. Amess is the second British lawmaker since 2016 to be killed while out meeting constituents, raising calls that members of Parliament might need more security. On social media, many wondered whether a more partisan England is more prone to this kind of violence. Other lawmakers have been physically attacked, and many have been screamed at and harassed while entering or exiting Westminster Palace.

“This is an incident that will send shock waves across the parliamentary community and the whole country,” said Lindsay Hoyle, speaker of the House of Commons. “In the coming days, we will need to discuss and examine MPs’ security and any measures to be taken.”

Lawmakers mixing with their constituents is a cherished tradition here, and British politicians are often seen at charity functions, school plays, local sporting events and the pub. But there’s been a long-running debate over how much security they should be offered when out and about.

In Amess’s killing, the Daily Mail tabloid reported: “One woman ran out of the church in the chaos yelling down the phone after dialing 999, telling the call handler: ‘Someone’s been stabbed, please get here soon, he’s not breathing.’ “

Amess was a long-serving member of Parliament and a married father of five. He was a royalist and a vocal supporter of Brexit, which saw Britain leave the European Union. He pushed for a ban on fox hunting, supported animal-welfare legislation, opposed abortion and was a leading voice in the Conservative Party in support of Israel.

The attack stirred memories of the 2016 killing of Labour Party lawmaker Jo Cox, 41, who died after being shot and stabbed by Thomas Alexander Mair, a white supremacist and extreme nationalist who supported neo-Nazi ideology. Mair was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes. Another Labour Party lawmaker, Stephen Timms, was stabbed in a 2010 attack but survived.

Jo Cox’s widower, Brendan Cox, tweeted about Friday’s attack: “My thoughts and love are with David’s family. They are all that matter now. This brings everything back. The pain, the loss, but also how much love the public gave us following the loss of Jo. I hope we can do the same for David now.”

Earlier Friday, Cox called attacks on elected representatives “an attack on democracy itself. There is no excuse, no justification. It is as cowardly as it gets.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the country heard the news in shock and sadness and that Amess was “one of the kindest” people in politics.Across Britain, “RIP David Amess” was trending on social media as tributes poured in from stunned Britons.

Flags were lowered to half-staff at 10 Downing Street. One lawmaker recollected that Amess was “friendly, always cheerful, always kind and generous,” while another simply called the attack “unforgivable.”

Carrie Johnson, the wife of the prime minister and a former Conservative Party communications chief, called the attack “absolutely devastating news.” She added that Amess was known to be “hugely kind and good,” and was “a true gent” and “an enormous animal lover.”

Angela Rayner, a Labour Party leader, said she was “horrified” by the stabbing. Former British prime minister David Cameron called the news “very alarming and worrying.”

British lawmakers meet regularly with their constituents in appointments to discuss public matters and personal needs and complaints. Amess had posted online Tuesday that he was due to hold his next meeting with local residents Friday at the Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.

Amess was awarded a knighthood in 2015 by Queen Elizabeth II for his years of political and public service.

A U.S. FDA advisory committee voted unanimously to recommend authorization of a second dose of Johnson & Johnsons COVID-19 vaccine as early as two months after the primary shot for anyone aged 18 and older.

AU.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee on Friday voted to recommend authorizing a second dose of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine.

The agency’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted unanimously, 19-0, to recommend authorization of a second dose as early as two months after the primary shot for anyone aged 18 and older.

The same committee on Thursday recommended Moderna booster shots to people aged 65 and older and other high-risk adults, in line with guidelines for Pfizer’s vaccine.

The FDA usually follows the advice of the committee, and a final decision by its regulators could come within days.

EUs health commissioner warns of “twindemic” of COVID-19, seasonal flu #SootinClaimon.Com

The circulation of viruses that cause COVID-19 and seasonal influenza could possibly trigger a “twindemic” as winter comes, and vaccination remains the most effective form of prevention, EUs health commissioner said.

As winter comes, the circulation of viruses that cause COVID-19 and seasonal influenza could possibly trigger a “twindemic,” the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides warned on Friday.

“As we move from autumn to winter… we need to take action and ensure our health systems do not become overburdened,” Kyriakides said in a statement.

The commissioner said up to 40,000 people in the European Union (EU) lose their lives each year due to influenza-related causes even without the pandemic, calling on the public to get vaccinated against the seasonal influenza.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place, the EU had an “extremely mild flu season” last year. “Let’s ensure that we do not have a resurgence this year, as our societies gradually reopen,” she warned.

Vaccination remains the most effective form of prevention, both for COVID-19 and flu, stressed Kyriakides.

Nearly three-fourths of the adult population in the EU have been fully vaccinated against the COVID-19, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The ECDC statistics show that while 90 percent of adults have been fully vaccinated in Portugal and Ireland, only 34.8 percent of adults in Romania and 23.7 percent in Bulgaria have received the needed doses.

Kyriakides said the situation is similarly dire when it comes to the overall uptake of influenza vaccinations. “There are Member States with almost 70 percent of their elderly vaccinated, and in others less than 10 percent,” she noted.

China’s Shenzhou-13 crewed spaceship successfully docked with the radial port of the space station core module Tianhe on Saturday, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

The spaceship, launched on early Saturday morning, completed orbital status setting after entering the orbit and conducted a fast automated rendezvous and docking with Tianhe at 6:56 a.m. (Beijing Time), forming a complex together with the cargo crafts Tianzhou-2 and Tianzhou-3.

The whole process took approximately 6.5 hours, the CMSA said.

The spaceship, atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China’s Gobi Desert at 12:23 a.m..

Three astronauts aboard Shenzhou-13 — Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu — will then enter the Tianhe module, according to the mission plan.

This is Tianhe’s second rendezvous and docking with a Shenzhou spaceship since it was sent into orbit on April 29. The Shenzhou-12 manned spaceship docked with Tianhe on June 17.
