Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday received Covid-19 monoclonal antibody drugs from Germany to treat coronavirus patients. He also held discussions with new German Ambassador to Thailand Georg Schmidt.

The Thai Government Spokesman Facebook page posted that the prime minister sent his regards to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He also congratulated Germany for a successful general election.

The page added that the Thai government will cooperate with the new German government to build a strong partnership between the two countries.

Two men and a youth were arrested for allegedly throwing a bomb at a Lumpini police patrol car at Ratchaprasong Intersection on Monday morning. Another person involved in the incident managed to escape arrest.

The incident happened around 6am on Monday, while Lumpini police were on duty at Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong Intersection. There were four men riding a motorcycle from Pratunam Intersection, heading towards Sala Daeng Intersection. When the motorcycle reached Ratchaprasong Intersection, one of the passengers allegedly threw a bomb-like object at the police’s patrol car and escaped through Ratchadamri Road.

The police pursued a group of teenagers who fled along Sarasin Road through Witthayu and Rama IV intersections. The police were able to arrest three of them at the entrance of Soi Sukhumvit 97/1, while the other one had escaped.

Initially, the perpetrators are Pichai, 30, the driver, Naruebeth, 26, and an 18-year old youth who allegedly threw a bomb-like object at the Lumpini police patrol car. The perpetrators were also found with marbles, a catapult, and an artificial explosive-like object, and are detained for further investigation.

Police from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division finally arrested the owner of the Nataree massage parlour in Bangkok, five years after being on the run.

The police arrested Prasert “Kolak” Sukkhee, 63, at Bangkok Noi district. The suspect is currently under questioning.

Back in 2016, Huai Khwang police raided and searched the Nataree massage parlour after Nvader, anti-sex trafficking NGO, reported to them.

The police found girls younger than 18 for purposes of prostitution. Prasert was charged for money laundering, having minors perform prostitution, illegally employing young workers under 15, housing illegally working migrants, and illegally operating a massage parlour.

The police will hold an official press conference at 2 PM on Monday.

Thailand recorded fewer than 10,000 daily Covid-19 cases with 9,930 new cases and 97 deaths reported on Monday.

Of the new cases, 362 were in prisons.

Meanwhile, 12,336 people have recovered and been discharged over the past 24 hours.

The country’s total caseload from Covid-19 stands at 1,647,362 – 1,520,503 of whom have recovered, 109,748 are still in hospitals and 17,111 have died.

Separately, another 83,168 people were given their first Covid-19 shot in the last 24 hours, 164,888 their second shot and 33,014 a booster, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered nationwide to 55,150,481.

According to Worldometer, confirmed cases globally had risen to 235.73 million on Monday, 212.61 million of whom have recovered, 18.3 million are active cases (87,005 in severe condition) and 4.82 million have died (up by 4,625).

The flood-prevention wall at Ayutthaya’s Wat Chula Manee collapsed on Sunday morning after coming under pressure from a surging tide on the Chao Phraya River.

The walls and flood protection line of Wat Chula Manee in Bang Ban district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province collapsed on Sunday, after the Chao Phraya Dam had released water at 2,779 cubic metres per second.

The intensity of the water mass had compressed and burst the temple walls and flood protection line on the south bank of the temple. The ancient temple and communities in the area were left two metres under water, and about 20 pagodas containing the ashes of local residents’ ancestors were damaged.

During the past week, the locals had made a flood prevention wall around the temple in bids to prevent the ancient establishment from the two-meter-high flood. However, the enormous water pressure had demolished the temple’s fence down and caused damages throughout the area.

Wat Chula Manee is an old temple built in 1750 since the Ayutthaya period. It is a temple that has been recorded in history that “Khanom Tom”, a legendary Thai boxing master in the Ayutthaya period, was born and raised.

The price of vegetables at the Municipal Fresh Market 2 in Uthai Thanis Mueang district has risen as floods have hit the provinces agricultural areas, leading to lower production.

As of Monday, the price of many vegetables in the market has risen, especially celery that was being sold at 150 baht per kilogramme from the previous of 80-100 baht per kilogramme.

A vegetable retailer in the market said the price of vegetables has risen as agricultural areas in Uthai Thani and other northern provinces were damaged by the flood.

“Many retailers were forced to order vegetables from Si Mum Mueang Market in Pathum Thani instead, causing the vegetable price to rise due to higher transportation cost,” she said.

She also predicted that the vegetable prices will rise further before the vegetarian festival from October 6 to 14 this year.

She added that few retailers had ordered textured vegetable protein from Yaowarat Market in Bangkok for sale due to the economic slowdown.

Students aged between 12 and 18 in “dark red zone” provinces will start to receive vaccines from Monday.

The Education Ministry said on Sunday that it planned to inoculate 5,048,081 students aged 12-18. Some 71 per cent, or 3.61 million, have already registered for vaccines.

Students are set to receive two doses of Pfizer. The first dose will be administrated from Monday for 15,465 schools in 29 dark red zone provinces. The second dose will be given in November.

The ministry aims to create safe education areas and hasten the Sandbox Safety Zone in School project by vaccinating both students and staff.

Schools that are ready will open for on-site study as much as possible to reduce the stress and limitations of online teaching.

The Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) said on Sunday that it would sell antigen test kits (ATKs) to the public at THB40 per set from October 18.

Sirikul Matevelungsun, GPO Deputy Managing Director, said this move aim to enable Thai people to seek high-quality ATKs in line with the Thai Food and Drug Administration standards.

She said this move also help reduce the price of ATKs and comply with the government’s policy to conduct tests for Covid-19 on people as much as possible.

She added that 2 million sets of ATKs will be available at eight branches of GPO pharmacies across Bangkok on October 18 this year.

“If the demand is likely to increase, GPO will procure more ATKs for sale,” she said, adding that ATKs would be available online in the future.

Eight branches of GPO pharmacies are as follows: Ratchathewi (head office), Yotse, Charansanitwong, Thewet, Rangsit, Public Health Ministry, Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Government Complex.

Bangkok is getting ready to cope with runoffs from the North, while seven districts on the banks of the Chao Phraya River are being urged to prepare for overflow.

On Sunday, Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang checked the flood embankment along the Chao Phraya River, from Rama 7 Bridge to Bang Na district, approximately 78.95 kilometres long, and arranged sandbags in the area without embankment. All the 97 water pumping stations along the river banks were also checked for readiness, with equipment and staff to provide help 24 hours a day in case of immediate floods.

The governor has ordered seven districts outside the Chao Phraya River embankment, namely Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Samphanthawong, Bang Kho Laem, Yannawa, Bangkok Noi and Khlong San, to urge people to move things to a higher place to alleviate the damage if floods occur.

“The National Water Command Centre has assessed the amount of cumulative rainfall in the upper Chao Phraya and the Pasak basins. More water from the upper areas of the Chao Phraya River is expected to continuously flow over the Chao Phraya Dam until October 5, which may affect the areas outside the embankment,” the governor added.
