How to avoid Covid infection through parcels

The Department of Health has advised people to beware of contracting Covid-19 through parcels.

How to avoid Covid infection through parcels

The department on Friday said that in order to stay safe from the Covid-19 virus that could be transferred by delivery staff of parcel services, people should follow three simple steps:

1. Set a drop off point for the delivery person to leave the parcel outside the house so as to avoid direct contact.

2. After unpacking, clean the product with alcohol and dispose the wrapping of properly.

3. After step 2, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds

The department’s advice comes after news that 18 staffers of Bang Sue Post Office tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week, sparking public concerns over the safety of using postal service during the pandemic.

The emerging cluster has prompted Thailand Post to shut down the office until Monday for testing of staff and disinfecting the premises.

The department also cited a recent study by the New England Journal of Medicine, which found that the Covid-19 virus can stay alive on a standard paper packaging for up to 24 hours. If the surface is oily or glossy, the virus can stay alive for up to 48 to 72 hours, depending on surrounding factors and temperature.

Teen allegedly kills man for stealing her phone

Khan Na Yao police were informed at 11.35pm on Friday that a man was found dead in front of a building in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa. The man had several bruises on his chest. He was identified as Cheud Khunsantia, 49.

Suphakit Sainamyen, a witness aged 35, told police that he had witnessed a man and a girl stomping on Chued’s chest when he was coming into a convenience store. He said when he asked the alleged killers the reason for their actions, the two said that Chued had tried to rob a phone.

When Suphakit left the store, a taxi biker there updated that the stomped man was already dead.

Later, police found the two suspects – a Laotian man Sorn Siriwandee, aged around 35 to 40, and a girl (whose name and surname have not been revealed).

The girl told police that Chued had entered her room last week and stolen her phone. When she saw the man again, she decided to take revenge by kicking and stomping him. Sorn also participated in the alleged attack. The report did not clarify a relationship between the two persons.

Initially, the police did not believe this explanation. Police are investigating the reason for the crime.

Reopening of Phuket, Surat Thani gets initial nod from CCSA

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Friday has approved in principle the tourism sandbox programme that will be implemented in Phuket from July 1 and in certain areas of Surat Thani from July 15, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Yuthasak Supasorn said.

Reopening of Phuket, Surat Thani gets initial nod from CCSA

Under the sandbox scheme, foreign tourists who can verify they have been inoculated against Covid-19 and test negative can fly into Phuket and move around freely in the province without having to quarantine.

After staying in Phuket for 14 days and a negative test for Covid, the tourists can travel to other provinces in Thailand.

Other requirements include the visitors must have been living in countries with medium to low level of infection for at least 21 days before entering Phuket, and they must strictly follow disease control measures throughout their stay.

“As for Surat Thani province, only Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan will be opened for foreign tourists under the sandbox scheme from July 15, and the same 14-day mandatory rule will apply,” said Yuthasak.

“During the mandatory 14 days, tourists can travel to selected destinations under a sealed routes model such as Koh He and Koh Mai Thon in Phuket. From August onwards, more destinations will be added like Koh Phi Phi and Koh Ngai in Krabi province as well as Khao Lak and Koh Yao in Phang Nga province.

“As for Thai nationals, they can travel freely in Phuket from July onwards provided they have received one jab of AstraZeneca or two jabs of Sinovac vaccine,” added Yuthasak.

The TAT governor added that after getting the greenlight from the CCSA, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will present the plan to the Cabinet on June 22 for their approval, after which it will be announced in the Royal Gazette.

The “Fine Grocery” contest was organised as part of the Epicures 2021 event, Somdet added.

The department expects that the bronze medal will draw more customers’ interest in Thai rice, especially in France.

In the “Fine Grocery” contest, Délice de Saint Orens’ foie gras and Bidaian’s Tajine spice won the gold medal. The silver medal went to Maison Telme’s rice mixed with herb and spice.
