The Thai Red Cross Society is calling on people to donate blood as hospitals nationwide are doing surgeries that had previously been postponed and their blood stocks are running low.

On Sunday, the Thai Red Cross Society’s National Blood Centre said it was only able to meet 43 per cent of the orders for blood put in by hospitals.

It said that since November 1, hospitals have resumed their normal services and surgeries are now being seen to. This rise in surgeries has increased the demand for blood and there is not enough available for patients with blood-related diseases or those who may suffer acute blood loss.

Hence, healthy people are being invited to urgently donate blood. Every donation made before December 31 will be awarded a “Blood Hero” T-shirt designed by Smileyhound by Greyhound while stocks last.

Donations can be made at various venues nationwide, namely:

• Red Cross units in Bangkok: Red Cross Station 11 in Wiset Niyom, the Mall shopping centres in Ngamwongwan, Bang Khae and Bang Kapi, the Emporium Shopping Centre in Sukhumvit and Baan Song Thai in Bang Sue district.

• Hospitals in Bangkok: Police General, Somdej Phra Pinklao, Ramathibodi, Bhumibol Adulyadej, Phramongkutklao and Vajira hospitals.

• Government blood donation centres: Lopburi, Chonburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla and Phuket.

Plan for trains to chug past Hualamphong from Tuesday angers Bangkok commuters

Commuters say this would more than double the time they spend travelling because the new station is very far.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) recently confirmed that all trains, especially long-distance ones, will only stop at Bang Sue Grand Station as of November 23. It said this was in line with the ministry’s plan to turn Bang Sue station into Thailand’s transportation hub.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, meanwhile, said on Friday that he has instructed relevant agencies to look into turning Hualamphong Station into a commercial area as soon as possible so Bang Sue can be officially used as Bangkok’s main transport hub. He has also instructed SRT Asset Co to invite developers to offer design ideas and to find out if a public-private partnership for the project is a good idea.

Separately, the Red Line monitoring committee will be meeting via Zoom to discuss route adjustments and turning Hualamphong into a commercial area.

More than 70 elephants were spotted crossing over to Prachinburi from the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Preserve on Wednesday, while rangers are doing their best to lead the animals back to the sanctuary.

The Khao Ang Rue Nai sanctuary runs through the heart of Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Sa Kaew provinces.

Forest officials told reporters on Saturday that the elephants had left the sanctuary to hunt for food, and that some are still wandering the area.

Officials believe nearly 100 wild elephants have wandered out of the reserve to find food in Prachinburi’s Kabinburi district, which is rich in sugarcane, cassava and banana fields.

One wild elephant, a 10-year-old male, was electrocuted to death on Friday when he tried to pull low-voltage wires with his trunk to enter a cassava field. He had wandered away from his herd.

Another wild elephant was also found with an injury to the nape of his neck.

Rangers are still hunting for stray wild elephants to push them back to the sanctuary for their safety as well as that of local villagers.

A man walked into a busy gold shop in Khon Kaen on Saturday evening, fired two shots, helped himself to 11 pieces of gold ornaments worth 870,000 baht and ran out after shooting another couple of shots in the air.

The robbery occurred at Kirati gold shop on the second floor of Central Plaza department store in Khon Kaen’s Muang district. No casualties were reported.

Khon Kaen police chief Pol Maj-General Noppakao Somanat said a man wearing shoes that match those of the robber was caught in Ruamchit Night Market a few hours later. Meanwhile, the department store has announced that everything is back to normal and that it is ready to cooperate with the police. A manhunt continues.

In July 2019, another gold shop in Khon Kaen was robbed at gunpoint by four men. Two were arrested in Udon Thani, while the other two are believed to have fled to Laos.

Hike in transport fees all part of free trade, says minister #SootinClaimon.Com

#SootinClaimon.Com : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation.

The government cannot stop truck operators from hiking cargo delivery fees

because it is all part of free trade, Energy Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow said on Saturday.

As for using trains, military vehicles and Thailand Post vans to deliver goods, the minister said that is just a backup plan.

Cargo companies are threatening to hike their transport fees if the government does not lower the price of diesel from 30 baht a litre to 25 baht and peg it at that rate for a year.

Supattanapong said this can only be done if the Oil Fuel Fund is used or excise taxes are drastically slashed, adding that the government is first dipping into the fund to stabilise prices.

“The Cabinet has agreed to loan 20 billion baht to the Oil Fuel Fund. If global oil prices rise further, then another 10 billion baht will be added. As for cargo operators and the transport sector hiking fees, nothing can be done because it is all part of the market mechanism. The government cannot stop them,” he said.

As for the government using military vehicles and other state vehicles to deliver goods, Supattanapong said this would only happen if goods transport comes to a complete stop.

“These hotels are now connected with the Covid-19 Surveillance Tracking and Evaluation [COSTE] and Thailand Pass systems to keep track of tourists’ reservation data.”

Thanakorn added that 1,128 SHA++ hotels have been linked up to the COSTE and Thailand Pass systems so far.

“TAT is also cooperating with hotels, online travel agencies and other travel agents to ensure that all travel packages include details of expenses travellers will incur upon arrival, such as cost of the hotel room, transport from the airport to the hotel and cost of Covid-19 tests,” he added.
