A resort house worth Bt5 million located in Mae Krabung subdistrict of Kanchanaburi Province is now being demolished after the court ruled that it has encroached on about 14 rai of land that belongs to Khuean Srinagarindra National Park.

The group of 11 offenders lead by Cherdchu Thongcheewong, an investor living in Bangkok, were arrested in September 2002 for encroaching on national park lands. They were later acquitted by the court due to lack of intention and were ordered to demolish the house or pay the demolition fee of Bt379,924, including an interest of 25 per cent per year.

“Recent survey by park officials revealed that the demolition is still not complete after nearly 20 years,” said Yutthaphong Damsrisuk, chief of Khuean Srinagarindra National Park. “Cherdchu submitted a letter to national park office on October 11 asking to bring in machines for demolition. He also added that the job is about 30 per cent done and will require another month to complete.”

Yutthaphong added after the house is removed, park officials will start restoring the areas which used to be a creek that provided water source for nearby forests.

Apart from applying technology, a collaboration between government, academia and mobile operators is necessary to deal with pandemics, Dr Kenth Engø-Monsens, a research fellow with Telenor Group, said on Friday.

He was speaking at the “Preparing for the Next Pandemic: Learning from Managing Covid-19 in Thailand and Norway” webinar. The virtual forum was organised by the Thai embassy in Oslo, Thailand’s National Innovation Agency, Dtac and Norway’s Telenor Group in a bid to exchange knowledge on ways of dealing with the Covid-19 crisis.

During the webinar, Engø-Monsens said Norway has applied big-data technology to track potential Covid-19 patients. However, he said, the country respected people’s privacy and ensured that no personal information leaked out of the mobile operator’s data warehouse.

He also offered Thailand a three-step guideline on preparing for the next pandemic:

• Create collaboration between the government, academia and mobile operators

• Research, evaluate and test models in advance

• Create legal contracts, data specifications, a list of whom to contact, etc, before the net pandemic.

October 14, 2021 – Nonthaburi Province, led by the Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office and the Nonthaburi Provincial Education Office in collaboration with IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, gets ready for the opening of the Nonthaburi Student Vaccination Site.

Scheduled for October 15-17 this year, the site will provide more than 68,000 students between the ages of 12 and 18 with Covid-19 vaccinations.

The vaccination site will be collectively administered by a team of 1,200 healthcare professionals at 80 separate injection stations. It is expected that 3,000 students will be vaccinated per hour and they will remain seated for no longer than one hour to keep social distancing and ensure peace of mind of the parents.

Dr. Rungruethai Mualprasitporn, the Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Doctor, revealed that the Nonthaburi Student Vaccination Site at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani is ready to provide Covid-19 vaccinations for students aged between 12 and 18 on October 15-17, 2021. She said, “According to a recent work summary meeting held by the working committee, which includes representatives from the government and private sectors, everything gets ready for the shots. The building, equipment, eligibility check and medical screening, on-site registration, vaccine distribution, preparations for vaccination, observation and ER teams, and the volunteering mission are all set to ensure availability and for a thorough understanding of the work process. The site has the capacity to vaccinate approximately 20,000 students per day.”

She continued, “Nonthaburi has about 250 schools with a total of more than 80,000 students. With a limited number of staff to support large number of schools, each of which has no proper facility for vaccination, it is likely that only 10 or 20 schools are accessible to the vaccination service if it is administered at school premises. This means the vaccination program will take nearly one month for the first dose, and almost two months for the second dose. Therefore, the Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office has decided to open a central vaccination site at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, which shows the readiness in all aspects. Also, with generous support from IMPACT, we are very thankful receiving a special privilege to use the facility.”

The Nonthaburi Student Vaccination Site will occupy the space of IMPACT Exhibition Center Building 5 and 6 in addition to the IMPACT Arena, which can accommodate large number of visitors so that it is possible to keep social distancing. Besides, travel to the vaccination site is fast and easy thanks to multiple entry and exit points, which are conveniently located with quick access to expressway. Moreover, with the capacity estimated to close to more than ten thousand vehicles, parking is not a concern. The Building 5 and 6 are set for vaccine injections and observation. The IMPACT Arena, which has 10,000 square meters, serves as a waiting area for up to ten thousand parents.

The maximum vaccination capacity is 20,000 per day. However, vaccine injections will be allotted to an average of 3,000 per hour, or 50 per minute, to keep social distancing. There will be a total of 1,200 healthcare professionals and medical staff working on 80 separate vaccination stations, plus 2,000 seats available for observation after being vaccinated. This ensures each student will not need to stay longer than one hour at the site. No congestion is expected.

“Here, on-duty staff and members of all supporting teams from the Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office, the Phranangklao Hospital, and community hospitals in Nonthaburi Province have gained practical knowledge of Pfizer vaccines and experience in vaccination site management from many previous sites. We believe that they will be able to deliver fast and effective vaccination services to all Nonthaburi Province’s students so that the vaccinated students will return to their school on schedule with the necessary safeguards.”

Mr. Taweesak Teerakiatkamjorn, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Bangkok Land Public Company Limited, who currently manage IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, said: “The IMPACT management team is aware of the prevention and creation of immunities to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are therefore pleased and willing to cooperate and support Nonthaburi Province by providing the IMPACT Exhibition and the IMPACT Arena for establishing a vaccination site to serve Nonthaburi students. For a 3-day period of confirmation, 68,000 students have confirmed to visit. Allotments will be 20,000 for the first day, with 23,000 and 25,000 students to be vaccinated on the second and third day respectively. It is expected that 20,000 parents will accompany their children per day.”

IMPACT has also set up a supporting team to assist parents and students during vaccination and help site set-up and installation, space cleaning, preparations of equipment, tables, and chairs, and get everything ready for the vaccination service. Also, the strict IMPACT We Care measures continue to prevent the spread of Covide-19. These include safety measures for areas of food and beverage service as well as the availability of well-trained security guards responsible for safety and traffic flow.  The indoor and outdoor parking capacity is more than 15,000 vehicles. Parking areas will open from 6:00 am.

There will also be a collaborative effort from public transport service providers, including taxis, public vans, buses, and minibuses to provide increasing number of passengers to and from the vaccination site with the convenience of transportation.  Shuttle buses will be available to transport visitors from outdoor parking areas to the main vaccination building. For fast and effective communication, a coordination team will be in place to provide useful information and answers to inquiries via multiple social media platforms such as Facebook (www.facebook.com/IMPACTvenue), IMPACT app, and LINE (@IMPACTMUANGTHONG).

A recent survey shows that most passengers are happy that Bangkok cabs have been fitted with partitions to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.

“The Department of Land Transport has been conducting a survey since September 20 via the QR code displayed on the partition,” the department’s director-general Jirut Wisanjit said on Friday. “As of Thursday, the survey shows that 86.81 per cent of passengers are satisfied with the partitions. Also, 87.88 per cent said they felt safer, while 90.2 per cent said they want these partitions to be installed in all Bangkok cabs.”

Meanwhile, 83.76 per cent of cabbies believe the partitions protect them from picking up the virus from customers when they are talking. Also, 81.65 per cent of cab drivers agree that every taxi should be installed with a partition and 90.2 per cent believe the partition will encourage people to use cabs more and boost their income.

However, some passengers and drivers voiced concern that the partition may obstruct air-conditioning and reflection from the plastic may affect the driver’s visibility. Some also said the partitions would require proper cleaning at the end of the day.

The department aims to install partitions in up to 3,000 Bangkok taxis and 2,192 cabbies have expressed interest.

“Taxi drivers have until the end of October to apply for the installation of the partition at the department’s head office in Chatuchak district,” said Jirut. “Installation is free as the partitions have been provided by SCG Chemicals.”

Australian actor Russell Crowe, who is in Thailand to film his next Hollywood blockbuster, “The Greatest Beer Run Ever”, appears to be having great fun in Bangkok and Phuket judging by his many tweets.

“Thai people are so friendly, so welcoming and of course, the food is just amazing,” the 57-year-old gushed on Twitter on Monday.

Crowe entered Thailand in late September via the Phuket Sandbox scheme and put up at the Amanpuri luxury resort.

While in Phuket, Crowe said he was pleased to be “confined to the island, not a room”, adding that the flexibility of the quarantine scheme was unlike anything he had experienced before.

“The weather in Sept was wet but sooo warm. When the sun did come out it was beyond gorgeous,” Crowe tweeted.

Another post of him said “I’m sure the rest of the country has amazing experiences to share too.”

Now in Bangkok, the superstar has been travelling around capturing and posting selfies taken in different venues, including Lhong 1919, a 19th-century Chinese mansion transformed into a mixed-use complex in the Khlong San area.

Joining the fun, Australian Ambassador to Thailand Allan McKinnon posed a question on Twitter: “For anyone in Thailand, do you guys have any suggestion for where he should take his next selfie?”

A businesswoman in Chiang Mai has turned the Covid-19 crisis into an opportunity by cashing in on people’s love for brightly coloured foliage. She now imports nearly 20-million-baht worth of Caladium bicolor, or Angel Wings, every month to meet the demand.

Nawisa Moolta says enthusiasts are willing to pay a high price for variegated plants, especially if the markings are rare or unusual.

She said the red variety has proved to be the most popular, as has the white or albino version.

Also, she said, people are willing to pay up to 200,000 for the rare Caladium bicolor landrace species.

Nawisa added that she sources her plants from China and the Netherlands and usually sells them at between 3,500 baht and 5,500 baht per box of 20.

She said her main buyers are flower markets in Loei’s Phu Ruea district and in Nakhon Nayok’s Ongkharak district. She has also been selling the plants via the Facebook page “In Love Caladium”.

No refund for Moderna reservation, say private hospitals #SootinClaimon.Com

#SootinClaimon.Com : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation.

https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40007538

Private hospitals will not provide refund for customers who have reserved the Covid-19 Moderna vaccine after importer ZP Therapeutics announced on Thursday that the vaccine arrival will start in November, said Dr Chalerm Hanpanich, president of Private Hospitals Association.

“Customers can, however, reschedule the vaccination to later date, or transfer the right to other person,” he added.

ZP Therapeutics said in the statement on Thursday that they expect 1.9 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine Moderna to arrive in Thailand within the fourth quarter of 2021. Based on the latest schedule provided by Moderna, delivery is anticipated to begin in November at 100,000 to 300,000 doses per week. The remaining 6.8 million doses are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.

“Many people have refused to receive 3rd jab or booster shot of other vaccines provided by the government as they prefer waiting for Moderna vaccine,” said Chalerm. “I would recommend that you should get the booster shot now and reschedule your Moderna shot for later date, as the Association does not know for sure if there will be a delay in delivery.”

“The advantage of Moderna vaccine is that it can be provided to children aged 12-17 years. Furthermore, a booster shot will be a requirement for Covid-19 prevention in 2022,” he added.

Moderna is among the top choices of alternative Covid-19 vaccines in Thailand, with private hospitals taking bookings for the jab since July at a starting price of Bt1,650 per dose.
