Elders aged over 60 can register with mobile operators for Covid-19 jab

The central vaccination unit at Bang Sue Grand Station will allow people aged 60 years and above to register for Covid-19 jabs from Monday.

The move is aimed at combating rising infections in metropolitan areas with senior citizens in an age group having a high risk of death after infection, Dr Somsak Akksilp, director-general of the Department of Medical Services, said on Sunday.

“To make it more convenient for the senior citizens, four mobile phone operators — AIS, True, DTAC and NT — will accept registrations from Monday 9am onwards,” he said.

“The vaccination will be provided from July 16 to 31, 9am to 5pm, at Bang Sue Grand Station in Chatuchak district.”

Mobile phone users who are over 60 years old can register with their respective network providers, as follows:

AIS: www.ais.th/vaccine

True: Press *707# and call (for True Move H only), vaccine.trueid.net or scan QR code from PR media

DTAC: dtac app or https://www.dtac.co.th/vaccine/registration/

NT: https://covid19vaccine.ntplc.co.th

“Since it might not be convenient for those who are more than 75 years old to register online, they can walk-in and receive the jab at Gate 1 of Bang Sue Grand Station from 9am to 5pm starting Monday, until July 18,” Somsak added.

“Please note that only the elders will receive the jabs, not the persons accompanying them,” he clarified.

Booster vaccine shot to be provided as 880 medics contracted Covid-19

The Department of Disease Control on Sunday reported that 880 medical professionals had been infected by the virus of the around 700,000 cases since the start of the latest Covid-19 wave in April,

Of the medics infected, 19.7 per cent, or 173 people, had not been vaccinated.

“Of the medics who had been infected, seven people died. Five were not vaccinated, while one had received a dose of Sinovac and another had received two doses of Sinovac,” said Dr Sophon Iamsirithaworn, the department’s director-general.

Sophon added that the National Communicable Diseases Committee had approved the motion proposed by the department to give a third dose or booster shot to medics who have already got two doses to increase their immunity against the virus.

“The department will start surveying the number of medics working on the front line who need booster shots immediately and will distribute the vaccine to their medical units as soon as we can,” he added.

A news source added that the third shot to be provided to medics would most likely be different from the one they had already received. “Since most of the medics have been vaccinated with Sinovac, they will receive either AstraZeneca or Pfizer as a booster shot,” the source said.

Home or community treatment for Covid patients requesting beds under NHSO

Covid-19 patients who request beds in Greater Bangkok via the National Health Security Office (NHSO) hotline 1330 will receive medical treatment at home or at a venue in their community from Monday.

NHSO secretary-general Jadet Thammathat-Aree said community clinics would be responsible for treating Covid-19 patients in the area.

“This move will enable patients to receive medical treatment faster without fear of developing severe symptoms,” he said.

He said home or community isolation was not an abandoning of patients, but instead they will be treated at home, in the temple pavilion, or a school auditorium just as in a hospital.

“Community clinics will send thermometer, pulse oximeter, Fah Talai Jone (andrographis paniculata) drugs and meals to patients to ensure that they can undergo isolation without the risk of spreading the virus,” he explained.

“Meanwhile, clinics will contact patients via video call to evaluate their symptoms every day.”

He said patients who develop severe symptoms will be sent to the hospital once beds are available.

“Community clinics will send Favipiravir to patients for treating themselves while waiting for available beds,” he said.

He added that the NHSO would cooperate with the Urban Institute for Disease Prevention and Control and Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medical Technology on conducting proactive tests across the capital from Wednesday.

“The office aimed to conduct tests on 10,000 people per day, while those who test positive for Covid-19 will undergo home or community isolation as well,” he added.
