Patient to sue woman for using her photo to claim allergy after Sinovac jab

The story of an Udon Thani woman suffering from allergy after receiving the second dose of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine was fake news, Drama-addict Facebook page said on Monday.

Patient to sue woman for using her photo to claim allergy after Sinovac jab

The woman had posted about her experience on her Facebook page, saying she had developed a red rash and numbness throughout the body after getting the second jab. She also claimed that she suffered intracerebral haemorrhage.

The Drama-addict page pointed out that a bedsheet in the picture showed that it was taken at Nong Muang Hospital in Lopburi province.

“Following inquiries about the case, the hospital said the photo was of another patient with drug allergy,” Drama-addict said.

“The hospital also said that someone had used the patient’s picture to make up a story about allergy after getting a vaccine jab.”

Drama-addict added that the hospital had said the patient whose photo was used for the alleged fake story would soon file a case against the woman.

“The woman, if found guilty, could face up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine not exceeding THB100,000, or both, under the Computer Crime Act,” the Drama-addict page added.

Travel ban widened to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal after Indian variant found in Thailand

Thailand on Monday widened its travel ban to international arrivals from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal in a bid to prevent the Indian variant of Covid-19 from entering the country.

Travel ban widened to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal after Indian variant found in Thailand

However, the Royal Thai Embassy in Pakistan said that holders of Thai visas (except tourist visas) may travel to Thailand before May 15.

The travel ban comes after a pregnant 42-year-old Thai national tested positive for the Indian variant in state quarantine on arrival back from Pakistan on April 24. The woman and her youngest son are the first cases of the variant recorded in Thailand, said the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Monday.

The temporary travel ban was thus extended from India to its northern neighbours.

Thai nationals and holders of diplomatic passports are exempt from the ban.

The suits will be distributed among state hospitals nationwide in a bid to offer better protection to medical personnel.

“As an agency under the Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Ministry, we have researched and upgraded our PAPR-enabled suits three times, each of which is significantly better than its predecessor,” NRCT said. “The latest version has larger helmets and a reinforced air hose that allows more mobility. Plus, the battery can last for at least four hours and beeps when it runs low. It can also be charged conveniently with a USB cable.”

NRCT had initially manufactured and delivered 500 such suits to selected hospitals and the response was very good, prompting the ministry to order the production of another 4,000 suits.

“So far, 3,000 suits have been delivered to hospitals nationwide for free, while the remaining 1,000 suits will be sold to private hospitals or clinics,” NRCT said.

Orders can be placed via www.thaimicgroup.com or through Facebook/thaimicgroup.

Industrial estates authority offers to help with vaccine rollout

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) will work with various government agencies to help with the mass Covid-19 vaccine rollout, Industry Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said on Monday.

Industrial estates authority offers to help with vaccine rollout

IEAT has resolved to use areas under its jurisdiction nationwide as vaccination centres and plans to have the areas ready in line with the Public Health Ministry’s criteria.

“Industrial estates are an important economic area and a top source of income for the country. If the spread of Covid-19 widens, it will have a serious impact on the economy and supply chains across the world, especially in the automotive and electronics industries,” Suriya said.

Veeris Ammarapala, IEAT governor, said vaccines were key in pulling the industrial sector out of the Covid-19 crisis. About a million people living in industrial estates nationwide need to be vaccinated against Covid-19, and half of them have said they are willing to pay up to THB1,000 for a shot.

IEAT is planning to seek a supply of vaccines from the government to kick off an inoculation drive as soon as possible.

10 Myanmar nationals arrested for illegally entering Songkhla from Malaysia

Songkhla provincial police on Sunday arrested 10 Myanmar nationals travelling in two taxis at Ban Pru Tiew village in Samnakkham subdistrict.

10 Myanmar nationals arrested for illegally entering Songkhla from Malaysia

Police were acting on a tip-off that the vehicles belonged to a gang that brings illegal labourers into Thailand from Malaysia.

“The Myanmar suspects said that they had paid an agency in Malaysia a fee of 3,000 ringgit [over THB20,000] to take them across the border,” said an officer from Sadao Police Station.

“Once they entered Songkhla, the taxis would pick them up. They had to pay another fee to transport them to destinations in Thailand.”

The drivers of the taxis, Abdulroman and Siriwat, both Thai nationals aged 47 and 51 years respectively, reportedly said that they had done this twice; the first time they had smuggled four migrant labourers into Thailand.

One of the Myanmar detainees reportedly said that he decided to leave Malaysia after going there and being unable to find a job due to the Covid-19 situation. Also, the Malaysian government was cracking down on migrant labourers and would have sent him back to Myanmar if he had been arrested.

All the detained suspects were kept in isolation while their symptoms will be closely monitored.

Public health officials will put them through detailed testing, especially to check if they carry the mutated Indian or South African strains of the Covid-19 virus, which had been reported in Malaysia earlier this month.
