Bangkok, June 27, 2022 – AIA Group Limited (“AIA” or the “Group”; stock code: 1299) is delighted to launch the AIA Healthiest Schools programme. The programme will contribute to AIA’s purpose to help millions of people live healthier, longer, better lives and make a wider positive impact on communities across Asia.

AIA launches healthiest schools programme to help young people live healthier, longer, better lives

The AIA Healthiest Schools programme is aligned with AIA’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy and will encourage healthy living habits among students aged five to 16 by promoting healthy eating, active lifestyles, mental wellbeing, as well as health and sustainability in schools. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), children today face a host of new threats linked to unhealthy lifestyles and diets, climate change, pollution, injury, violence and inequality. WHO research shows that investing in children’s health, education and wellbeing brings substantial returns for societies.

In February this year, AIA set an ambition to engage a billion people to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives by 2030 through the AIA One Billion initiative. The AIA Healthiest Schools programme will contribute to this goal as it engages, inspires and educates communities to lead healthier lifestyles.

Lee Yuan Siong, AIA Group Chief Executive and President, said, “Helping people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives guides everything that we do. Through the power of education, the AIA Healthiest Schools programme will instil healthy behaviours in young people at an early age and bring lasting change to improve the health and wellness of our next generation.”

Nikhil Advani, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Thailand, said, “I am delighted that Thailand is one of the four markets participating in the AIA Healthiest Schools programme which was initiated by AIA Group to inspire students to live a healthier lifestyle. Moreover, schools will be able to access resources that will encourage teachers and students to care for their wellbeing, from their nutrition, their physical activity, and their mental health, which will provide a strong foundation for Thai youths to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”

AIA has partnered with education specialist, EVERFI, to design the AIA Healthiest Schools programme. In May this year, EVERFI conducted research amongst 800 teachers across Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Vietnam. It found that 89% of teachers agree that there is a need for more resources and education that takes a holistic health approach encompassing physical, mental and environmental wellness. 87% of teachers also indicated that the pandemic has had a negative impact on students’ mental health.

The programme will comprise a competition to motivate participating schools to showcase their impact and success in driving better health outcomes amongst students. The competition will also serve as a platform for schools to build communities that share best practices and spark innovative ideas around promoting health and wellness. Winning schools across the region will be rewarded with world-class equipment, resources and access to expert advice which will address the most pressing challenges identified by individual schools and communities. These prizes will accelerate their health initiatives and instil a strong foundation for sustainable healthy living.

The AIA Healthiest Schools programme will provide teachers with free, engaging curriculum-linked resources that can be easily adapted into existing teaching plans. Developed by educators, these resources will enable teachers to effectively engage their students in efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of the whole school community. AIA is the Global Principal Partner of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, the club along with AIA’s ambassadors across the region will share personal wellbeing advice and practical healthy living content to inspire students and schools into action.

The AIA Healthiest Schools programme will be available in primary and secondary schools during the 2022/2023 academic year in Australia, Hong Kong (primary schools only), Thailand and Vietnam, with the aim to expand its reach across AIA’s other markets in Asia. MedPark Hospital on Saturday (June 25) opened the Emerging Infectious Diseases & Acute Respiratory Infection Clinic (EIDARIC) to provide high-quality treatment to patients with Covid-19 as well as other emerging respiratory diseases, in compliance with the government’s plan of reopening the country and making Thailand a destination for medical tourism.

The opening ceremony on Saturday was held at the hospital which is located on Rama IV Road in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district and was presided over by the Public Health Ministry’s permanent secretary Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit, with the presence of the Department of Health Service Support’s director-general Dr Thares Krainairawiwong and Department of Disease Control’s deputy director-general Dr Sopon Iamsirithaworn.

“It is a good sign that private hospitals are improving their treatment standard to cope with Covid-19 and emerging diseases,” said Kiattiphum in the opening ceremony speech. “The government is ready to cooperate with the private sector to increase the country’s readiness for infectious diseases and improve our public health standard to welcome medical tourists after Thailand is fully reopened, as well as to treat the general public with proper disease control measures, to make sure that hospitals are a truly safe place from infectious diseases.”

Medpark Hospital managing director Dr Pongpat Patanavanich said that as Thailand is easing disease control measures, hospitals are still serving as a shelter for patients and those at risk of contracting Covid-19 and future diseases. “That’s why MedPark is employing a dual system in patient treatment which separates high-risk patients from general patients,” he said. “The EIDARIC is located outside the hospital’s building and has the negative pressure setting to reduce the risk of germs spreading to ease the concerns of patients and people visiting the hospital.”

Pongpat added that EIDARIC will provide one-stop services for Covid-19 and respiratory patients by specialized physicians, including a fast and accurate laboratory for RT-PCR tests and chest x-ray. “The clinic is fully air-conditioned for patient comfort and all air ducts are fitted with HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters to ensure that the air from the clinic is properly filtered before releasing to the environment,” he said.

Hybrid work requires more than simply collaborating and working together. It challenges technology to provide the same experience no matter where people are. Workplaces are now wherever people want them to be, but the expectations of their work doesn’t change. People need to be seen and heard clearly and be productive and inspired.

“At HP, we have looked at these changes and formed a strategy to grow through our Gaming, Peripherals, Workforce Solutions, Consumer Subscriptions, and Industrial Graphics & 3D to emerging, evolving, and exciting opportunities for today and in the future”, said Ng Tian Chong, Managing Director, Greater Asia at HP.  “Our hardware, software, and solutions with cutting-edge technology innovations deliver the experiences needed to thrive in a hybrid world, providing the power to blend our most productive environments for work and creativity with our most inspired ideas.”

The Work from Home (WFH) trend is still going strong in Thailand and hybrid working is now the new normal. With the shifts of people’s working preferences in accordance with this new norm, more than 80% of Thai employees want more flexible work arrangements in a post-pandemic world . Businesses are urged to provide employees with the right tools to collectively move to a hybrid-operating model.

“The office is now ‘everywhere’ and the future of work is now here,” said Mr. Lim Choon Teck, Managing Director, HP Thailand. “As we embrace the hybrid work and learn model, experiences will become more important than ever, and pre-pandemic technology needs to be updated to offer new ways to collaborate, create, and stay entertained. At HP, we will strive to empower individuals and businesses to be at their best and reach their full potential by providing solutions fit for the emerging hybrid model of work.”

Joining the panel discussion, veteran tech expert Nui Pongsuk Hiranprueck emphasized that Thai businesses must adopt the new hybrid work model to be competitive.  Talent workforces want the right and hassle-free solutions equipped in their devices such as PCs and printers to enhance their productivity and flexibility as well as security.

Creator, actor, and young entrepreneur Kay Lertsittichai highlighted that it is vital to possess the right technology partner in managing his multiple career and lifestyle. To be able to connect seamlessly with people and collaborate with friends, family, and colleagues from home or anywhere anytime is the key to success in his work-life balance. Playing various games on a powerful PC, not only entertains but helps him create and develop innovative content.
