Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is satisfied Thailands Covid vaccination rate has surpassed 80 million doses, ranking 18th out of 184 countries, government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkonghchana said on Monday.

The Public Health Ministry is also expediting negotiations for the purchase of Paxlovid and Molnupiravir, he said.

Prayut is additionally satisfied with the current Covid-19 situation, which has continued to show signs of improvement, Thanakorn said.

The spokesman said that the latest information on the Bloomberg website as of Saturday indicates Thailand is ranked 18th in the world and 3rd in Asean, while countries with the highest vaccination rates are China, India, the US, Brazil and Indonesia.

Health data on Sunday shows 80,484,427 doses have been administered in Thailand, representing 65.4 per cent of the population.

According to Thanakorn, Bloomberg predicts that if Thailand continues with its current inoculation rate of about 600,000-800,000 doses per day, within a month more than 75 per cent of the population would have received their first jabs, which is in line with the country’s reopening under the “smart entry” policy.

“The prime minister has also ordered the Public Health Ministry to expedite negotiations to purchase anti-Covid-19 medicines – Pfizer’s Paxlovid and Merck’s Molnupiravir.

The accelerated purchase of these drugs is to reduce hospitalisation and reduce fatalities in high-risk patients as quickly as possible,” Thanakorn added.

Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang ordered the Department of Drainage and Sewerage to drain flood water from Song Wat Road in Samphanthawong district as soon as possible to facilitate traffic flow after he conducted an inspection of the area on Monday.

The Royal Thai Navy’s Hydrographic Department has forecast high tide from the Gulf of Thailand will surge during the November 7-11 period twice a day and affect communities along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and Samut Prakan provinces.

The department also reported that the highest tide on Monday was recorded at 2.67 metres at 9.55am. The tide is expected to surge again at 6.56pm.

“The flood at Song Wat Road is now above the footpath level and has started to flow into houses,” Aswin reported. “Officials have deployed pumps to drain the water from the area and we expect the road to be reusable soon.”

The governor added that several areas in Bangkok, especially those along the Chao Phraya River, have been affected by floods since early this morning, including the Krung Thon Bridge in Bang Phlat district, Sathorn Pier in Silom district, Bang Na Pier and Charoen Krung Road.

A news source reported that the Chao Phraya has overflown its banks in Samut Prakan’s Muang district and flooded several roads in the province, including Sukhumvit, Pu Chao Saming Phrai and Sai Luad roads.

Communities around the Mahawong Temple in Pak Nam subdistrict, which is located only 100 metres from the riverbank, were reportedly swamped by 60-100cm-high flood water, prompting villagers to use boats to travel out and retrieve their belongings that were washed away from their homes.

Covid patients can pass on virus to pets: Chula University study #SootinClaimon.Com

Covid-19 patients are being advised to avoid contact with their pets after a local study found that dogs and cats can contract the virus from their infected owners.

Assoc Prof Dr Thira Woratanarat from the Faculty of Medicine Chulalongkorn University posted the results of the survey on his Facebook page on Sunday.

The university’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine found that infected people have passed on the virus to their dogs and cats.

“The research was published on Friday after it had been found that three out of 35 dogs and one of 9 cats contracted the virus from their infected owners. All the infected pets were asymptomatic, except for one dog with mild symptoms,” the Facebook post read.

Dr Thira said the study emphasised the importance of how the Covid-19 virus can be transmitted from humans to pets.

Therefore, if there are signs of infection, the patient must isolate himself/herself not just from other family members but also from their pets, the doctor advised.

Thira added that there is currently a large number of daily new infections and the chance of human to animal transmission is higher than the first wave.

He also said transmission from animal to human “may not be a major factor” in the spread of the pandemic. But it is better to take precautions.

Chiang Mais Doi Inthanon National Park will reopen to tourists from Wednesday as the weather there turns colder. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature on Thailands highest peak amid new health measures to prevent Covid-19 from spreading further.

During the past week, many areas in the North have started to get cold, especially mountaintops.

On Monday morning, Doi Inthanon saw its lowest temperature in months – 7 degrees Celsius – coupled with cloudless skies, allowing locals to witness the first golden ray of dawn as winter sets in.

The park will accept no more than 100 tourists at a time, accepting only 30 per cent of walk-in visitors, while the other 70 per cent need to make a booking through the QueQ application.

Visitors are required to be fully vaccinated or obtain a virus test result. Face masks must be worn at all times and big gatherings are prohibited.

Public Health Ministry Officials descended on Koh Samet in Rayong province on Sunday to inspect the implementation of Covid Free Setting measures to make the resort island safe for both tourists and locals.

Rayong is among 17 tourist provinces that the government reopened from November 1 to foreign visitors with evidence of full vaccination and a negative PCR test result without the need for quarantine.

“The Covid Free Setting covers four aspects: achieving the target vaccination rate; maintaining self-protection at all time; business owners and activity organisers employing strict disease control measures, and receiving regular antigen tests,” said Deputy Public Health Minister Dr Satit Pitutecha.

“Tourism entrepreneurs must make sure the three dimensions of their business – the environment, staff and customers – are safe and free of Covid-19,” he said.

“Business owners can evaluate their safety levels via the Department of Health website at stopcovid.anamai.moph.go.th.

“Once complete, they can print out the certificates of Thai Stop Covid Plus [TSC+] and Covid Free Setting [CFS] to display at their establishments so customers know they are compliant with Covid Free Setting measures,” Satit said.

“Alternately, business owners can request an evaluation by public health officials via QR Code by accessing the above website, or via the Facebook page @COVIDWatchThailand,” he said.

“Businesses that complete evaluation this way will receive a Covid Free Setting sticker issued by the Public Health Ministry on top of the above certificates,” Satit added.

Department of Health director-general Dr Suwanchai Wattanayingjaroenchai said that as of November 3, some 64,415 businesses have taken the online evaluation for the TSC+ standard. Of these, 58,156 or 90.28 per cent have passed.

Meanwhile, 6,610 of 6,883 businesses that have taken the CFS evaluation have passed, equal to 99.03 per cent, he added.

A thrilled “Baitong” Jareerat Petsom is all set to compete in the Miss Earth 2021 finalé on November 21, hoping to win the crown and be awarded the prestigious, high-profile vocation of global environmental ambassador.

Baitong will be proudly attired in the national costume of “Rung Arun”, representing the beauty of traditional architecture with inspiration from the capital’s famous Wat Arun, or Temple of Dawn.

After winning the Miss Earth Thailand 2021 title, Baitong graced the stage in the first round of the Miss Earth 2021 pageant, hosted by the Philippines on Friday evening.

She was among contestants from 86 countries who competed virtually in evening dresses.

Baitong enlightened reporters that the 21st Miss Earth contest is a virtual one, with all 86 contestants required to send in 20 presentation videos under various topics to the pageant judging panel.

She said there would be a live question session, with the final round held on November 21 and the winner going on to be crowned the world’s environmental ambassador.

“The national costume I will be wearing is called ‘Rung Arun’. The costume was inspired by Wat Arun, the Thai landmark temple that reflects a collection of fine arts in the early period,” she said.

“My dress is decorated with a modern twist of the unique traditional pattern of Phra Prang of Wat Arun. The materials used are up-cycled and recycled elements, which are completely ecofriendly,” the beauty queen explained.

“I am excited to be representing Thailand. This year’s theme is ‘Colours of the Earth’, in which each contestant has to choose a colour to express themselves. I chose white as a brilliant overview of this year as the pandemic situation eases,” Baitong added.

Truck operators hand govt further warning over diesel price, say they might increase transport cost #SootinClaimon.Com

Truck operators nationwide are prepared to parade around Bangkok on November 16 after the government rejected their demand to reduce the diesel price from THB30 to THB25 per litre for a year amid impacts from Covid-19.

They had earlier decided to halt 20 per cent of their operations from November 1.

Northeastern Transport Association deputy secretary-general Thanasan Kulapesaranont said on Sunday that the government was not sincere in solving their problems after its decision to cap the price at THB30.

He said trucks from across the country would now enter Bangkok for a second time.

He was sure that this time there would be more trucks taking part “because everyone wants to show the government how much they were suffering”.

He warned that if the government still refused to decrease the cost of diesel to THB25, truckers would increase the price of transportation.
