Ministry of Public Health reported on Monday (November 8) morning that in the past 24 hours there are 7,592 new patients who tested positive for Covid-19, 711 of whom have been found in prisons.

Death toll increased by 39, while 7,495 patients were cured and allowed to leave hospitals.

The country’s total caseload from Covid-19 stands at 1,975,591 – 1,857,463 of whom have recovered, 98,425 are still in hospitals and 19,703 have died.

Separately, another 76,492 people were given their first Covid-19 shot in the last 24 hours, 193,257 their second shot and 8,310 a booster, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered nationwide to 80,499,612.

According to Worldometer, confirmed cases globally had risen to 250.61 million on Monday, 226.87 million of whom have recovered, 18.68 million are active cases (76,075 in severe condition) and 5.06 million have died (up by 4,595).

Thailand ranks 24th in the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 47.34 million, followed by India with 34.37 million, Brazil with 21.88 million, the UK with 9.3 million and Russia with 8.8 million.

The Community Organizations Development Institute (CODI) is planning to develop affordable accommodations for low-income earners in Krabi province in the next three years, said Sayam Nonkhamchan, CODI’s spokesman on Sunday.

He said during a meeting with Democrat MP Phimraphee Phanwichatsakul and Nathammarak Jongrak, mayor of Khlong Phon subdistrict as they were inspecting construction sites in Krabi’s Khlong Thom district.

“The project is a collaboration between CODI and Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, with an aim to provide affordable houses for low-income earners and promote sustainable economy in the community,” he said. “CODI will establish a panel of committees who will work on surveying the data of low-income earners in Khlong Phon subdistrict, and then draft a three-year plan that will start in 2022 until 2024.”

“The plan will cover all aspects that promote quality of life and sustainability of the people in the subdistrict,” he added. “The target areas will include accommodations along the seashores, lands in national forest areas, private lands, as well as communities that have houses in poor conditions.”

Department of Disease Control (DDC) reported on Sunday that since Thailand has reopened 17 tourist provinces to vaccinated foreign visitors on November 1 until November 6, a total of 20,092 tourists have entered the country.

Under the reopening plan, visitors travelling by air from 63 countries that have a low level of Covid-19 infections will not have to quarantine, but they must prove they have received both jabs of an approved Covid-19 vaccine for at least 14 days as well as produce a negative RT-PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before flying.

So far, 15 foreign visitors have tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival, or 0.07 per cent of all visitors.
Most of the foreign tourists have entered Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport at 12,978 people (5 tested positive), followed by Phuket Airport at 6,722 people (10 tested positive), Samui Airport at 309 people, and Chiang Mai Airport at 83 people.

The DDC also reported that the highest number of tourists landing in Thailand since it opened on November 1 hail from the United States (2,465) followed by Germany (2,334), the United Kingdom (1,376), Japan (1,258), South Korea (906), Russia (905), Switzerland (838), Sweden (724), France (695), and UAE (542).

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Monday (November 8) that the strong high-pressure system has extended to the Northeast of Thailand. It is expected cover to the North, the Central, Bangkok and its vicinity and the East by tomorrow. Cool weather with strong winds and a decrease in temperature by 3-5 °C are forecast in the Northeast.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon and the easterly wind prevail over the North, the Central, Bangkok and its vicinity and the East including the Gulf and the South of Thailand. Thundershowers are likely in these areas. People in upper Thailand should take care of their health due to variable weather.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

North: Cool weather in the morning with thundershowers in 20 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 19-22 degrees and highs of 31-34 degrees Celsius. Temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 9-12 degrees Celsius.

Northeast: Cool weather in the morning with strong winds and thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 16-21 degrees and highs of 31-33 degrees Celsius. Temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 12-14 degrees Celsius.

Central: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 21-24 degrees, highs of 31-33 degrees Celsius.

East: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 23-24 degrees, highs of 32-34 degrees Celsius; waves less than a meter high.

South (east coast): Thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 23-25 degrees, highs of 31-34 degrees Celsius; waves a meter high and 1-2 meters during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 21-25 degrees, highs of 32-34 degrees Celsius; waves less than a meter high and 1-2 meters during thundershowers.

Thailand’s three musketeers of football – Chanathip Songkrasin, Theerathorn Bunmathan and Sitthichok Sopa – have been turned into manga heroes on the walls and floor of a futsal court in Chalerm La Park on Bangkok’s Phya Thai Road.

The portraits were painted by Yoichi Takahashi, creator of the beloved manga series “Captain Tsubasa”, to celebrate the Thai football heroes who have been playing with the Japan Professional Football League.

The league funded the renovation of the futsal field and hired the renowned manga artist to depict the strong ties Japan has with Thailand and the three football stars.

The Southeast monsoon is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain to the South over the next seven days, National Water Command Centre announced on Sunday.

The centre said the rains may also cause heaving flooding in 11 provinces in the South, namely Nakhon Si Thammarat, Satun, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Surat Thani, Krabi, Ranong and Phuket.

Meanwhile, heavy rain over Saturday night caused flash floods in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Krabi, affecting 143 households. No casualties were reported and as of press time, the floods had started clearing.

After visiting a cannabis learning centre in Bueng Kan province on Saturday, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the medicinal herb is fast becoming popular among Thais nationwide.

He added that the popularity of cannabis extracts and medication is one step towards converting it into a cash crop soon.

Many shops and restaurants are also selling cannabis-spiked beverages.

“We are opening a wide field to allow the use of marijuana, but it must be done as per established rules and criteria,” Anutin said.

He also added that he was pushing to get the Narcotics Act amended, as well as for the setting up of a central agency and collecting cannabis production and consumption statistics to ensure they meet international contracts.

Loy Krathong celebrations in Bangkok this year will focus on safety and eco-friendliness, the governor said. Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang told reporters on Sunday that the festival will be held on November 19 under a Covid-free setting and universal prevention measures.

The festival will be held in two main areas – under the Rama VIII Bridge in Bang Phlat district and Klong Ong Ang, which runs through Samphanthawong and Phra Nakhon districts. People can also float their krathong in 30 public parks. Security officials will be deployed across the capital.

Aswin also said that the sale and use of fireworks and sky lanterns has been prohibited, and people are being encouraged to make krathongs with natural materials in a bid to reduce the waste and help conserve the environment.

He also said all celebrations must be alcohol-free.

The number of daily commuters using the rail system, including MRT, BTS and the Airport Rail Link, has risen to 600,000 per day since Thailand reopened on November 1.

“This proves that rail transport plays an important role in people’s daily lives,” the Department of Rail Transport (DRT) said on Saturday. “We expect the number of commuters using the railway system to rise continuously.”

DRT said it has ensured that all rail operators employ strict measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

“We also ask commuters to comply with public health measures, such as wearing face masks, maintaining distance and using hand sanitising gel while using rail transport services,” it added.

People heading to Thailand have been warned to beware of a fake registration website that looks very credible, while officials on Sunday listed four reasons why some Thailand Pass applicants did not receive a QR code.

Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkonghchana told reporters on Sunday that in the first five days of Thailand’s reopening on November 1, 16,595 foreigners had entered the country. He went on to say that 90165 people had registered for the Thailand Pass and 33,788 had been approved.

He also warned people against the www.thailandpass.org website, which scammers have set up to steal personal information.

As for not receiving a QR code after registering for a Thailand Pass, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat said this may be because:

• The user did not upload a Covid-19 vaccination passport or the document was not clear
• The information and attached documents do not meet requirements, such as bookings at a hotel that is not linked to hospitals listed for an RT-PCR test
• Re-entering the information several times
• Incorrect email address or accounts whose storage is full

Officials have also detected that Hotmail accounts are not able to receive replies from the Foreign Ministry. Microsoft Corp is working to solve the problem.

Tanee also said that travellers should allow time for the authorities to check the vaccination document. Those who need to travel to Thailand urgently can contact the Thai embassy or consulate in their area.

“The officials are coordinating at all times in receiving and solving technical problems,” he said.
