Airports of Thailand (AOT) is getting Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport ready for the November 1 reopening of selected tourist provinces under the government’s plan to jumpstart the tourism industry.

Under the plan, visitors travelling by air from 46 low-risk countries will not have to quarantine, but must prove they have received both jabs of an approved Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before flying. They are also required to provide a negative RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before flying.

“We expect Suvarnabhumi airport to welcome 440 commercial flights on November 1; 230 of which are local flights, 110 international and 110 cargo flights,” AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said on Friday.

“These flights will bring in some 30,000 passengers, which is about 30 per cent of airport’s capacity. Of them, 23,000 will be domestic passengers and 7,000 foreign visitors.”

Nitinai further added that AOT has installed 196 CUSS (common use self-service) and 46 CUBD (common use bag drop) kiosks at Suvarnabhumi Airport, which comply with standards set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

“These kiosks will be available at check-in rows B through U of the passenger terminal,” he said. “They will help speed up the check-in process, while passengers can also check in via the application six to 12 hours before departure [depending on the airline’s criteria]. After passengers finish checking in at CUSS kiosks, they can proceed to load their luggage at the CUBD kiosks immediately.

“Both CUSS and CUBD kiosks are using contactless technology to reduce the chance of virus spreading via contact surfaces,” he added.

“AOT is also planning to open the Satellite 1 [SAT-1] building in April to cope with the rising number of passengers,” Nitinai added. “The 216,000-square-meters SAT-1 building is complete but not opened for public use yet to due to a low number of passengers.

“We believe that once SAT-1 is officially opened, Suvarnabhumi’s capacity will be increased by around 15 million passengers per year, thanks to the APM [automated people mover] system that can transport up to 5,900 passengers per hour.

“AOT prioritises the safety of passengers and staff working at Suvarnabhumi and other five airports under our administration, namely Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang in Chiang Rai, Hat Yai and Phuket,” added Nitinai. “All airport employees and related workers have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and have also received a booster or third shot to boost their immunity.”

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Friday announced the updated Covid-19 control zones in Thailand to be effective from November 1 to comply with the government’s plan to reopen the country.

Under the plan, visitors travelling by air from 46 countries have that a low level of Covid-19 infections will not have to quarantine, but they must prove they have received both jabs of an approved Covid-19 vaccine for at least 14 days as well as produce a negative RT-PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before flying.

Based on the current Covid-19 situation, the CCSA has lowered the number of provinces in the “dark red” zone, or areas under highest disease control level, from 23 to 7. The 7 provinces are: Chanthaburi, Tak, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Songkhla.

The 38 provinces classified under red zone, or high disease control area, are: Kanchanaburi, Khon Kaen, Chonburi, Chumphon, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Chachoengsao, Trang, Trat, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Prachinburi, Ayutthaya, Phatthalung, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchaburi, Phetchabun, Ranong, Rayong, Ratchaburi, Lopburi, Satun, Samut Prakan, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Saraburi, Sa Kaew, Suphanburi, Surat Thani, Ang Thong, Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.
 

The 23 provinces classified under orange zone, or controlled area, are: Kalasin, Kamphaeng Phet, Chainat, Chaiyaphum, Buri Ram, Phayao, Phrae, Maha Sarakham, Mae Hong Son, Yasothon, Roi Et, Lampang, Lamphun, Loei, Singburi, Sukhothai, Surin, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Uttaradit, Uthai Thani, Amnat Charoen, Si Sa Ket

The 5 provinces classified under yellow zone, or monitored area, are: Nakhon Phanom, Nan, Bueng Kan, 
Mukdahan and Sakon Nakhon.

Four provinces have been classified under blue zone, or tourist pilot area. They are Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga and Phuket.

Ministry of Public Health reported on Saturday (October 30) morning that in the past 24 hours there are 9,224 new patients who tested positive for Covid-19, 126 of whom have been found in prisons.

Death toll increased by 88, while 8,305 patients were cured and allowed to leave hospitals.

The country’s total caseload from Covid-19 stands at 1,903,165 – 1,783,875 of whom have recovered, 100,132 are still in hospitals and 19,158 have died.

Separately, another 429,121 people were given their first Covid-19 shot in the last 24 hours, 527,345 their second shot and 45,926 a booster, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered nationwide to 74,694,431.

According to Worldometer, confirmed cases globally had risen to 246.76 million on Saturday, 223.54 million of whom have recovered, 18.22 million are active cases (74,768 in severe condition) and 5 million have died (up by 7,581).

Thailand ranks 24th in the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 46.77 million, followed by India with 34.26 million, Brazil with 21.79 million, the UK with 8.98 million and Russia with 8.43 million.

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday (October 30) that the high-pressure system covers upper Thailand and the South China Sea while the easterly and southeasterly winds prevail across Thailand and the Gulf. Thundershowers are likely over upper Thailand with isolated heavy rains in some parts of the South.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

North: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 21-24 degrees and highs of 30-33 degrees Celsius. 

Northeast: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 22-23 degrees and highs of 32-35 degrees Celsius. 

Central: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 22-24 degrees, highs of 31-34 degrees Celsius.

East: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 23-24 degrees, highs of 33-35 degrees Celsius; waves less than a meter high.

South (east coast): Thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas with isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 23-25 degrees, highs of 31-33 degrees Celsius; waves less than a meter high and over 1 meter during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas with isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 20-27 degrees, highs of 32-34 degrees Celsius; waves less than a meter high and over 1 meter during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Thundershowers in 20 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-25 degrees, highs of 31-34 degrees Celsius.

Phuket, Thailand, 29 October 2021 – The Thailand International Boat Show will take place at the award-winning Royal Phuket Marina from 6-9 January, 2022 and is set to attract thousands of high net worth individuals from across Thailand and overseas.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration announced on Friday that restaurants in four tourism provinces will be allowed to serve alcoholic beverages from Monday.

The meeting, led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, decided that diners in Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga and Bangkok can enjoy an alcoholic beverage with their meals from November 1. However, each provincial governor is in charge of specifying the zones where booze can be served.

A small airplane at a private airport owned by the Sahapat Group in Lamphun’s Muang district ran over and killed a 51-year-old man on Thursday.

Police learned of this freak accident at 8pm and arrived to find the body of Sitthidet (last name withheld) halved in two at the waist. The deceased’s mobile phone and headphones were found on the ground nearby.

The body has been sent to a local hospital for autopsy.

Parked nearby was a Cirrus SR22T small aircraft that had sustained damage to the front propeller, right wing and left rear wheel. The pilot, Ram Supha, 49, said he had flown from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport and hit the victim while landing in the Sahapat Airport. The victim was allegedly exercising on the runway.

Pol Maj-General Piya Tawichai, commander of Region 5 Police, said Ram was the brother-in-law of veteran Buri Ram politician Newin Chidchob, who had served as minister to the PM’s Office under Thaksin Shinawatra’s regime.

“I will personally supervise the handling of this case to ensure the investigation is transparent and that every party receives justice,” he said.

A source revealed that Ram is a board member of Chiang Mai Night Safari and often flew from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Buri Ram for business.

Facebook sent a notification to its users on Thursday that everyone has 15 days to activate its all-important “Facebook Protect” feature and warned that failure to do so means users will be locked out of their accounts until the security feature is activated.

he “advanced security program” provides stronger account protection, according to the social media giant.

Here are nine steps of an easy guideline to activate the feature before the November 12 deadline:

1. Click on the menu bar (the three-line icon) and select “Settings”;
 
2. Select “Password and Security”;
 
3. Select “Facebook Protect”;
 
4. Press “Next” then “Next” again;
 
 5. Click on the “Fix Now” button on a page with a message read “We’ve checked your account for vulnerabilities”;
 
6. Press the “Turn On” button to turn on two-factor authentication;
 
7. Select a security method by clicking on the “Text message (SMS)” section;
 
8. Select the phone number and wait for the 6-digit code to be sent to the mobile phone. Then enter the code and press “Continue”;
 
9. It will appear that the two-factor authentication is on, press “Done”.

A narcotics suppression unit swooped down on two men in Chiang Rai’s Muang district on Thursday night with one million speed pills.

After receiving a tip-off, the drug suppression team comprising police officers and soldiers, flagged down a suspicious pick-up truck at about 9pm on Thursday.

However, instead of stopping, the truck sped off in the direction of the city’s red-light district. The truck driver was so desperate to get away that he even ignored the gunshots fired as a warning.

Eventually, police managed to block the truck and arrested driver Siwakorn Sirirungwilai, 30, and passenger Chawalit Pakao, 18. They face charges of possessing more than a million pills of methamphetamine with an intention to sell.

Police have launched an investigation to find out who else is involved.
