Walk-in vaccination facility open from today for foreigners aged above 75

All foreigners aged 75 and above, who are residing in Thailand and have yet to receive any Covid-19 vaccines, can walk in from Monday at the Central Vaccination Centre – Bangsue Grand Station every day, between 9am and 4pm.

Those receiving the vaccination must present their passport, as well as proof of residence, eg visa, permanent residence card, or work permit on the day of vaccination, the director-general of the Department of Information and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tanee Sangrat, said.

Walk-in vaccination is available every day at Gates 2, 3, and 4.

Tanee said that since Bangsue Grand Station is also being used to vaccinate the general public, Covid-19 preventive measures should be strictly observed while traveling to and at the vaccination site.

There is a daily limit for walk-in vaccinations. However, vaccine will be administered throughout the day, hence those wanting to be inoculated can arrive at the centre during the opening hours as per their convenience, he said.

Tanee said the walk-in arrangement was only for elderly foreigners who have not received any vaccine shots. Those who have got their first shot must follow up for the second dose at the centre where they had received their first dose, he said.

He said the system could detect and would reject those who had already received the first dose.

He also clarified that currently there was no vaccine scheme for booster or third shots for the general public.

Private hospital in Samut Prakan faces probe

A private hospital in Samut Prakans Thepharak district is under scrutiny for allegedly demanding an exorbitant amount of money for booking beds for Covid-19 patients.

The Department of Health Service Support opened an investigation after it received a sound clip from relatives of a Covid-19 patient, claiming that the private hospital had asked for more than THB100,000 for booking a bed, without any medications.

Dr Tares Krassanairawiwong, the department director-general, said the department was jointly looking into the case along with the Samut Prakan Provincial Public Health Office.

He added that the private hospital officials had been summoned to the department next week for questioning.

“If the hospital is found guilty, the hospital operator would face at least two years’ imprisonment, or 40,000 baht fine, or both,” he said.

Meanwhile Arkom Praditsuwan, the department deputy director-general, said Covid-19 patients can receive treatment at government or private hospitals without any charges if they need emergency medication.

He also urged private hospitals to strictly adhere to laws and provide full medical treatment to Covid-19 patients.

“Hospitals have been asked to collect bills related to Covid-19 patients’ medication to claim compensation from the National Health Security Office,” he said.

He added that people can contact the Department of Health Service Support hotline 1426 for information related to private hospitals’ charges.

Chulabhorn Academy website crashes as Sinopharm vaccine registration opens

Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA)’s website and smartphone application (CRA SINOP) for Sinopharm vaccine registration went down on Sunday before 8am.

#Sinipharm was trending on Twitter at around 8am on Sunday, as many Twitter users complained about problems during vaccination registration through CRA’s website and CRA SINOP. The registration was fully booked immediately after the website showed error.

CRA’s Sinopharm jabs registration is aimed at 40,000 citizens in 10 red zone provinces.

The registration opened on Sunday at 8am through the website and CRA SINOP.

Meanwhile, Nithi Mahanonda, CRA secretary-general, posted on his Facebook page that another 1 million vaccine doses had been delivered to Thailand. He added that there were some problems with the vaccine registration system, and at 9.30am he had to close the booking system as 60,000 people had already registered.

“I have to apologise to those who were unable to register. The registration system will be improved and open for bookings again next week. But as approximately 400,000 are wait-listed, it would be impossible for everyone to successfully book for the vaccine,” said Nithi.

Government urged to provide more support to firefighting volunteers

The Somdet Chaophraya Emergency Rescue Unit on Saturday asked the government to pay more attention to firefighting volunteers.

Their plea came after Korasit Roaphan, a 19-year-old firefighting volunteer of the emergency rescue unit, died during a fire-fighting operation at the Ming Dih Chemical factory in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province on July 5.

Pongsapat Katakhunwisit, the emergency rescue unit chief, said the government has not discussed providing equipment support for firefighting volunteers after the incident.

He said only the private sector had provided equipment support so far.

“We would like to ask the government to pay more attention to firefighting volunteers, as they are the frontline personnel to tackle disasters,” he said.
