CISCO will focus its business on financial, manufacturing, public sector and education industries. The firm has also expanded its marketing channel to support the market demand.

The firm sees cybersecurity, big data and analytics, automation and technologies as digital technologies that will have opportunity for growth in the near future.

Vatsun Thirapatarapong, managing director of Cisco Thailand and Indochina, said the firm aims to provide its technologies and innovative solutions to support financial, manufacturing, public sector and education industries. These industries will utilise new technologies and innovative solutions such as mobile payment, the Bionic bank, the invisible bank, smart city and industry 4.0 to transform their businesses and organisations.

He said the firm had also expanded its marketing channel by cooperating with telecom operators in providing technologies and innovative solutions to support businesses. It is also building up existing individual software vendor (ISV) into solution partners so that they will be able to help customers utilise new technologies and solutions to transform businesses in terms of digital transportation.

The firm believes that by 2020 around 75 per cent of businesses will be digital or have digital business transformations underway. Around 30 per cent of those will be successful, impacted by lack of specialised talent and technical expertise. About 78 per cent would not have established the capability to manage and transform processes across different parts of the organisation.

“I think that businesses will adopt new technologies to support their businesses such as cybersecurity on cloud that will help protect against cyber-threats. We also expect double-digit growth in the areas of cloud and embrace a full stack of cybersecurity.

“Meanwhile, we are trying to provide innovation platforms such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), system analytics, collaboration and smart city platforms to support the demand of the market,” said the managing director.

The firm is eyeing six digital trends that will power customer experience in 2020: smart retail, hyper-personalisation, intelligent assistants, remote experts, instant fulfilment becomes a reality as well as virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) that blends physical with digital such as workplace transformation.

He said that the top technology trends that would affect businesses in the near future are artificial intelligence and machine learning. The firm forecasts that next year, around 85 per cent of software created will have AI capabilities.

AI would be followed by cybersecurity. Customers understand that they have to protect themselves but they do not know where they are and how to do it. And the third is multi-cloud that will pose challenges to connect and consume multi-cloud with visibility and security.

A study “A Technology Perspective into Asia-Pacific’s Readiness for Digital Transformation” shows that despite the high confidence and awareness of technologies shaping business’s digital future, adoption rates are relatively low across the region. Among respondents in Asean, only 60 per cent have started to adopt cloud, 59 per cent cybersecurity solutions, 55 per cent big data and analytics as well as 48 per cent automation.

In the international market, the firm takes care of Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. It sees Cambodia as having the highest potential for growth as businesses in Cambodia continued to utilise new technologies and solutions to support business growth amid the increasing demand from customers.

He said the firm in the first quarter of fiscal year 2019 (August 2018 to July 2019) was the second top market in the Asia Pacific region behind India.

CT Robotics has launched its latest version of a Thai-made-and-designed robot, “Dinsow Mini 2”, which is embedded with artificial intelligence and is designed to be a companion for the elderly, especially those with Alzheimer’s.

Chalermpon Punnotok, the chief executive officer of CT Robotics, said that this was the first time the company had developed a robot for the mass market, aimed at people suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Currently, there are around 600,000 people suffering from Alzheimer’s in Thailand with the possibility of the numbers increasing rapidly as Thailand becomes an ageing society. The company sees the opportunity to deliver AI robots as company for these people.

Dinsow Mini 2 is designed with embedded voice recognition, voice command and face recognition and also AI features that allow the robot to learn more about the elderly person’s voice, face, behaviour and lifestyle.

Dinsow Mini 2 also encourages the elderly to do brain exercise. The company claims that Dinsow Mini 2 is the first robot that combines three AI features: voice-AI, face-AI, and pattern-AI.

He said the company aims to sell 5,000 Dinsow Mini 2 within the next 12 months in four markets – Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

The company has local partners in each market. In Thailand, it now partners three retail drug-chain stores – Healthymax, PharMax, SafeDrug.

Dinsow Mini 2 comes with cellular capability and Wi-Fi connection as well as camera, speaker, and touch-screen monitor to facilitate the elderly to instantly communicate with their family.

“The elderly will be in the eyes of their family at all times as Dinsow Mini 2, as their companion, will immediately alert and contact the family if any urgent incident occurs, especially if there is a difference in the face or unusual behaviour,” said Chalermpon.

Saito Masaru, general manager of Japan Genki Group, the operator of 80 elderly nursing centres in Japan, as customers and partners of CT Robotics, said the company initially aims to order 200 Dinsow Mini 2 to use in its elderly nursing centres.

The company will consider bringing Dinsow Mini 2 to the mass market for consumers in the future.

Chalermpon said Dinsow Mini 2 is the latest version of Dinsow Mini, which has been used in almost 20 hospitals in Thailand, including Siriraj Hospital and Chulalongkorn Hospital.

“Almost a hundred units of Dinsow Mini 1 have been sold. Dinsow Mini 1 is designed for corporate use, especially hospitals in Thailand and in elderly nursing centres in Japan, but Dinsow Mini 2 is designed for home use. We plan to launch the next version with the application protocol interface to third party to develop added features,” said Chalermpon.

Apart from Dinsow Mini, the company has also developed a service robot called Dinsow, which is bigger than Dinsow Mini. Three versions of Dinsow are available in the market.

“We aim to sell around 10 units of the latest version of Dinsow Series 3, priced at about Bt800,000 each.

In 2019, we will launch Dinsow Series 4, which will have the functions of a product consultant in a shopping centre. We aim to sell around 200 units of Dinsow Series 4 next year,” said Chalermpon.

Dinsow Mini 2 will be sold at a special price of Bt65,000 instead of the normal price of Bt85,000 on the occasion of Father’s Day.

An empire BUILT against the odds

Corporate December 01, 2018 01:00

By SOMLUCK SRIMALEE
THE NATION WEEKEND

DRIVEN by a conviction that quality housing should be available to all stratas of society, Thanakorn Thanawarith laid the foundations of a property empire with an investment budget of just Bt300,000 a decade ago.

Thanakorn, 44, put the funds into a project for residences that are put out to rent and, from that modest start, the company that he later established – All Inspire Development Plc – has grown to reach total assets of Bt4.22 billion by the end of June this year.

His success is all the more striking given that he had to work his way up from humble beginnings, while overcoming setbacks early in life.

“I had to start my working life when I was only 10 years old, as that was when my father passed away,” Thanakorn recalls of the hardships in his childhood.

“At that time, I had to suspend my studies for one year to make rice noodles at my mother’s home at Mukdaharn province, which required a move from my father’s home at Udon Thani province. My mother did not had money enough to keep me in school at that time, as she had to spend more of her money to keep my older brother and my younger brother in their studies.”

However, he was able to resume his studies and also worked at a hotel in Mukdaharn while completing a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ramkhamhaeng University. After graduation, Thanakorn began working at a branch of a well-known caf้ chain, before moving on to positions in other consumer businesses, such as restaurants and convenience stores.

While working in these businesses, he began saving in earnest and was able to buy a townhouse in Ramkhamhaeng Road, near the Mistine office, for Bt1.7 million.

“This inspired me to believe that, if I ever had an opportunity to become a property developer, I would develop quality residences that serve the needs of everyone,” he says. “The properties would need to be in prime locations that have easy access to transportation. My first home had been far from the central business district but at that time I had no choice, as I was limited by my budget in what I could buy.”

After buying his first home, Thanakorn continued to save steadily and when he and his wife could put aside Bt300,000, he made his start by investing in residences that are put out to rent.

“I used my experience from the restaurant and the convenience store chain to seek out a prime location, handy for students needing to go to school or university and for other community facilities,” he says.

“I was able to enjoy success in opening such homes for rent over five years and some of them for seven years. For some of the residential units, I would sell them and I gained a profit of more than 50 per cent.

“This success encouraged me to continue in my investment ambitions.”

With his hard work paying off, Thanakorn in 2013 decided to spend his savings of Bt2 million to establish All Inspire Development Co Ltd, with registered capital of Bt2 million. He bought 200 square wah in Soi Baring, on Bangna Trad Road, to develop a low-rise condominium worth Bt102 million.

“I decided to set up my own business after I saw an opportunity to develop condominiums that are located close to the mass transit system, such as the land plot in Soi Baring, which I saw had the potential to be developed as a small condominium to serve the demands of people around that site,” Thanakorn recalls of that turning point in his business life.

For the development of that first project, Thanakorn had to take on everything on his own, such as the management, marketing, sales and advertising.

“I subcontract an architect to design the project and also subcontracted a contractor to build this first project, which I called the Excel Baring,” he says. “Within one month of launching the project on the market, the units were sold out. This inspired me to continue and validated my conviction that now is the right time to do this business. I thus gained the confidence to expand the business.”

Now, six years after establishing All Inspire Development Co Ltd, Thanakorn plans to list the company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand next year. The company in October submitted the preliminary paperwork for the proposed share flotation.

All Inspire Development Plc has so far developed 16 residential projects worth Bt16.29 billion, five of them have already completed the transfers to customers. The other 11 projects are under construction, with the unit transfers to customers taking place from the end of this year to 2020.

Thanakorn aims to have the company’s Excel and Impression brands recognised among the top five for homebuyers within five years under a stepped-up focus on quality.

The country boy made good says the key to his success in the property business, despite the fierce competition in the market, is the company’s focus on locations that match the needs of the target customers – mainly young workers who are needing a first home that is near their work and community amenities.

“Most of our projects are located close to mass transit systems and community facilities. And they are offered at prices no more than Bt5 million per unit, with designs that serve our customers’ demand,” he says. “I learnt from the purchase of my first townhouse that this was not desirable as it was far from my workplace and the transport was also difficult.

ow that I am a property developer, I tell myself that I have to develop quality residences that come with more functions to serve the demands of all our customers.

“If we were a fashion brand, I think All Inspire Development Plc would likely be the ZARA brand – meaning it is simple and easy for all people to buy and use. This market positioning is the key to my success in the first decade of conducting my own business.”

He adds that he is also concerned about the working environment for his staff, which now number 200. Thanakorn says he has designed the office space, which covers 3,000 square metres, so that it incorporates a common area where staff can engage in activities. His commitment to the employees reflects, he says, the fact that they are the key to business growth over the next decade.

Away from the office, Thanakorn ensures he takes time out every weekend to enjoy family life with his wife and two children.

Of his efforts to achieve a work-life balance, he says: “Before I became Thanakorn, the owner of All Inspire Development Plc, my wife was always there with me in the days when I had to take the bus to work. Family is everything to me and because of that, I do my best to achieve a balance and thus spend more time with them.”
