Charity gala dinner highlighting Thai-Chinese ties raises 12 million baht for Ramathibodi Foundation

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 02, 2022

On the historic occasion of Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, attending the all-important Apec 2022 Summit, China Moutai – a company which produces China’s number one premium liquor Baijiu – on behalf of Guizhou Moutai, teamed up with King Power group to organise the “China Moutai x King Power Charity Gala Dinner”, with proceeds from the gala auction going to Ramathibodi Foundation.

China’s Baijiu liquor, which is also the world’s No 1 premium spirits, has a rich yet exquisite history dating as far back as 2,000 years.

The charity gala drew a number of key personalities who had also participated in Apec meetings, like Tepparat “O” Songkraw, who had created valuable souvenirs for world leaders, including President Xi, as well as top Thai and Chinese businessmen.

Korn Dabbaransi, Chairman of the Sino-Thai Friendship association, chaired the gala dinner. Pol Gen Dr Chitchai Wannasathit, honorary chairman, Rocky Lau, executive of Diam Dragon (Asia-Pacific),  Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, CEO of King Power group, Dr Ting Chong Quin, chairman of Guizhou Moutai of the People’s Republic of China, Narongsak Puttapornmongkol, the new President of the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Hataithep Theerathada were the other top personalities who attended the event at Pullman King Power in Bangkok.

The guests who attended the dinner had an opportunity to bid for six special and rare Moutai vintages which are collectors’ items. Income totaling 12 million baht without deducting expenses from the auction was handed to Ramathibodi Foundation.

Dr Ting, who delivered an address on longstanding Thai-Chinese relations, mentioned this was his first visit to Thailand.

He said that on the occasion of President Xi attending Apec 2022 and on behalf of Guizhou Moutai and the Chinese people who “love and miss” Thai people, he is ready to support Thailand in various ways. Having cooperated with King Power to organise this event, Dr Ting said he was willing to use the income to support the Thai public health sector because he realised that Thai medical personnel had worked hard in the wake of Covid spreading.

King Power and China Moutai would like to provide moral support to the Thai medical staff, Dr Ting said, adding that he also wishes to help bolster Thailand’s health sector through this event. He believes it will strengthen Thai-Chinese ties and help everyone emerge from the crisis unscathed and quickly.

Providing his perspective as a creator, Tepparat pointed out that Moutai liquor “is one that is distilled in accordance with ancient Chinese wisdom and culture”.

“This liquor is made from a special species of organic sorghum and wheat and Guizhou Moutai channels a smooth yet excellent taste. Its liquor is refreshing and fragrant, just like odiferous wood distilled for hundreds and thousands of years, with the scent of ancient, sophisticated flowers, unlike other Chinese liquor that I have tasted,’’ Tepparat explained.

More Safety for Vulnerable Road Users

More Safety for Vulnerable Road Users

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2022

Continental has joined forces with the outdoor clothing specialist Urban Circus to develop a highly Detectable Jacket that offers cyclists and pedestrians a new dimension of safety on the road.

As the daylight hours shrink, vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians become more difficult to spot by the human eye and
vehicles alike.

In comparison to conventional high-visibility jackets, the Detectable Jacket is much better recognizable to the human eye.

It is also up to twice more visible to LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and camera sensors of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which constantly monitor the vehicles’ surroundings.

For this solution, the partners have bundled their competencies – Urban Circus its expertise in outdoor clothing that protects against darkness, wind and rain, and Continental its experience with vehicle sensors – and developed a safe, stylish jacket that is suitable for everyday use.

“Our ‘Vision Zero’ – zero fatalities, zero injuries, zero crashes – not only includes automobile users, but also focuses especially on vulnerable road users.

More Safety for Vulnerable Road Users

With the Detectable Jacket, a joint innovation from Continental’s own development and production service provider Continental Engineering Services and Urban Circus, the outdoor wear specialist, we are moving one further step closer to making urban traffic safer for VRUs,” Eric Vincelot, Head of Continental Engineering Services (CES) France says.

More visible to Human Eye and the Vehicle
The special arrangement of fluorescent and reflective inserts in the patented Urban-RPrint® technology fabric used for the Detectable Jacket is detected by on-board cameras and LiDAR systems faster and more reliably. To the eyes of the ADAS-sensors, the Detectable Jacket is up to twice more visible than conventional high-visibility vests.

Accordingly, the system can intervene faster and better, break or even stop completely. The size and position of the fabric inserts were chosen so that the sensors can directly detect the silhouette of a cyclist or pedestrian.

At the same time, the risk of dazzling the sensors and cameras was minimized. In addition, glass microbead technology increases visibility to the human eye by up to 300 meters.

This is made possible by the retroreflective Urban-RPrint® fabric, which is coated with thousands of micro-glass spheres and
can reflect light from vehicle headlights up to 300 meters away. As a result, cyclists and pedestrians are better protected from accidents with vehicles, even in the dark and in poor visibility.

Unparalleled Safety and Unbeatable Style
Urban Circus specialists have brought all their expertise in trendy, functional outdoor clothing to joint development. The Detectable Jacket is not only safe and innovative but also comfortable and
stylish. It is wind and waterproof, thus saving also from draughts and heavy rain.

Thanks to the water vapour permeability, the jacket is still breathable and wicks moisture caused by perspiration to
the outside, so that the wearer has a pleasantly dry feeling on the skin even during sweaty sports activities.

The jackets can now be ordered in Europe from this website.

ABeam points out the benefits of Data Democratization

ABeam points out the benefits of Data Democratization

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2022

Data management that allows for high and convenient accessibility to all can lead to better data-driven business decisions and long-term success for organizations

As businesses grow, the data that organizations and enterprises created, stored, utilized, and accumulated over the course of their transaction expands.

Data is as useful as its management, and one way to maximize the use of data is to make it available and accessible to as many staff as possible to reap its best potential.

Traditionally, data is stored separately and managed, segment by segment, with its own IT or specialist team. When a need for data arises, a staff member usually makes a request to the relevant party which could take a while to respond.

And in some cases of overloading work for IT talents, the response to such request may arrive too late or not at all. Democratization of data, which is the practice of making data accessible to all in a user-friendly manner, is one approach to tackling this problem.

Technological research centre Gartner identified data democratization as one of the top tech trends of the decade. Data democratization is the ability for digital information to be accessible to the average end user.

The goal of data democratization is to allow non-specialists to be able to gather and analyze data without requiring outside help. Essentially, it is a process that enables everybody within an organization to access and understand their data in order to make better data-driven decisions and therefore create growth and long-term success for the organization.

ABeam points out the benefits of Data Democratization

The benefit for the employee is to get the most out of every data point, boosts their confidence to tackle data problems and hence help the entire organization to make aligned judgments and better choices. Data democratization also brings greater customer insight as the whole organization grasps all aspects of the data, and with the right usage and analysis, the organization can deliver a superior customer experience.

Moreover, data democratization can help the organization make timely decisions, confidently adjust its business strategies, and make proactive judgments.

To successfully implement data democratization, an organization must fundamentally transform their digital infrastructure so that everyone can access all the data from one source. This can be achieved by using Data Virtualization, the complexity of accessing disparate sources of data is hidden from the data consumers. Data Virtualization platforms will also help to ensure that data privacy is respected, and data security policies have complied.

And to enable everyone to properly utilize the data without the help or assistance of IT talents or specialists, organizations should promote machine learning or advanced analytics automation tools. An Automated Machine Learning platform (AutoML) provides a full range of functionalities that support the lifecycle of a machine learning project from access and preparation of data to machine learning model design, training, and evaluation to the deployment and monitoring of the deployed models.

These platforms enable employees with different levels of technical know-how – from no-coders to low-coders to coders – to easily perform advanced analytics without IT help to truly create value through democratization.

Finally, everyone in the organization should be educated about data democratization, with full support from management. Continual evaluation and improvement of processes are also vital to keep data democracy thriving and beneficial. It is important to realize that data democratization is a journey instead of an end-state, consisting of ongoing activities driving the organization towards successful data democracy.

ABeam Consulting (Thailand) provides advanced analytics consultancy services globally and has successfully implemented technology solutions that help our customers move closer to achieving data democracy in their organizations and enterprises. In addition to technologies, ABeam can also advise on planning for and implementing a roadmap that is tailored to each customer’s situation and objectives.

DEPA develops B2B platform for Thai tourism

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2022

The state-run Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), in collaboration with private business partner Travizco Technology, a leading Thai travel tech, has introduced ThailandCONNEX as a national tourism platform to help Thai tourism businesses make easier contacts with the world online travel agencies.

This new connection venture focuses on the principle of “win-win sharing income” partly through digital technology to revive the Thai tourism industry after the Covid-19 pandemic. It is expected to boost Thailand’s economy by 12 billion baht.

Asst.Prof.Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President and CEO of Digital Economy Promotion Agency or depa announced at the press conference with Nadhaseth Wongwattanakarn, CEO of Travizco Technology, about cooperation in support and developing platforms ‘ThailandCONNEX

Nuttapon said that the tourism industry has always been an important engine in driving the Thai economy but behaviour of tourists around the world today prefer to search for and book accommodation, travel and various activities online (OTAs), but Thai tourism operators, especially SMEs, still lack the potential to develop their own online channels and lose a high-profit share when selling services through foreign OTAs. For entrepreneurs who want to increase sales channels and reduce dependence on foreign OTAs, it is difficult to contact OTAs of Thai startups. At the same time, OTAs of Thai startups are growing slowly because of obstacles in terms of funding and credibility. It takes time to access and acquire the tour operators in the system.

Therefore, depa has joined forces with a private sector partner, Travisco Technology Co., Ltd., the country’s leading travel tech, to develop ThailandCONNEX, the national tourism platform to act as an intermediary to connect various types of tourism operators across Thailand with OTAs of Thai startups and OTAs operating around the world. The platform makes it easier for Thai and foreign OTAs to access Thai tourism resources.

“ThailandCONNEX is a platform to create business opportunities, reduce dependency on foreign platforms and create added value for the Thai tourism industry. It is expected that there will be more than 100,000 tour operators participating in the platform, with at least 200,000 items of goods and services from tourism operators and expected to create an economic value of more than 12 billion baht, which will help revitalize the economy and be a part in pushing Thailand forward into the digital economy and society era,” Nuttapon said.

Nadhaseth Wongwattanakarn, CEO of Travizco Technology, said that Thailand has a very high tourism potential. But Covid has caused the once bustling Thai tourism to become stagnant. Foreign tourists have dropped from 40 million people to less than a million people, and income of more than 3 trillion baht per year to less than 900 billion baht. Operators of accommodations, travel, places and tourism activities including travel agents are all affected.

” Travizco Technology, a travel tech entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience, is therefore very pleased to cooperate with depa in developing ThailandCONNEX which will help Thai tourism entrepreneurs, especially SMEs to have access to technology. and growing steadily in the midst of the transformation of service models in the digital age,” he said.

ThailandCONNEX also has a Token system that will facilitate tour operators with tools to stimulate tourism. Incentives, Repeat Purchases and Alliance with other entrepreneurs as well.
