DDC reveals data on fatalities, adverse effects from vaccination

There have been more than 600 fatalities after administering over 35 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said.

On Saturday, the DDC’s division of epidemiology also revealed data collected until September 5 of the symptoms after cocktail or booster vaccination.

A total of 35,912,894 Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered until September 5. A total of 628 deaths were reported, of which 416 were determined by experts as irrelevant to the vaccination and 249 cases were concomitant events from other conditions. Meanwhile reports are awaited of 122 deaths.

Out of 791 people who received Sinovac as the first shot and AstraZeneca as the second shot, a total of 38 fatality cases was reported. Three of the cases were irrelevant to the vaccines, three cases were inconclusive while information is still being gathered in 32 cases. Symptoms that can be found after completing the cocktail vaccination are fever, headaches, vomiting, dizziness, nausea and muscle ache.

Among people who received AstraZeneca as a booster shot after two shots of Sinovac, three out of 293 people died. Two cases were reportedly irrelevant and information was being collected about one fatality. Symptoms that can be found are similar to the cocktail vaccination.

As for the Pfizer booster dose after two Sinovac doses, there were three fatalities. One case is inconclusive, while two cases are being investigated. Most of the symptoms that were found after the third shot were similar to other booster shots, but with rashes.

A total of 15,292,644 Sinovac shots had been administered with 24 cases of severe allergic reaction. Vaccine-induced immune thrambotic thrambocytopenia (VITT) was found in five people after receiving AstraZeneca, and six cases of severe allergy out of 15,419,603 doses. From 4,330,836 doses of Sinopharm vaccination, some adverse effects were reported, but with no severe symptoms.

The DDC’s division of epidemiology said that symptoms of myocarditis in children and VITT were rarely found, and could be cured after immediate medical treatment. The division also said that the mRNA vaccines, namely Pfizer and Moderna, could cause myocarditis and pericarditis.

“People in high risk groups, especially the elderly, patients with seven major diseases and pregnant women, are urged to be vaccinated as the benefits still outweigh the side-effects,” the DDC’s division of epidemiology said.

No ban on taking photos in Hua Lamphong station: SRT

There is no prohibition on taking pictures in Hua Lamphong Railway Station, the public relations centre of the State Railway of Thailand clarified via Facebook, but urged people to check for appropriateness and safety.

The response came after a Tik Tok user released a video clip claiming that the authorities did not allow people to take pictures inside the Hua Lamphong train station without official permission.

Those who are interested in doing a photoshoot with a model inside the station must seek permission as there were many instances where photographs were inappropriate or obscene, the SRT said.

If photographers enter or shoot in a potentially dangerous area, security personnel will warn or prohibit them, the SRT said.

Isolated heavy rains are forecast for the North, the Central, the East and the South, while isolated heavy to very heavy rains are likely in the Northeast, the Thailand Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

An active monsoon trough lies across the lower North, the upper Central, and the Northeast into the tropical depression “Conson” over the middle Vietnam.

Meanwhile, a strong southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand.

“People in the risky areas should watch for overflows and flash floods,” the department said.

Strong winds and waves are likely in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, rising 2-3 metres high in the Andaman Sea, about two metres in the Gulf of Thailand and above three metres during thundershowers.

“All ships should proceed with caution and keep away from thundershowers, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf should keep ashore until September 14,” the department said.

Meanwhile tropical storm “Conson” has downgraded to a tropical depression and will make landfall over Quang Ngai, Vietnam. It is expected to downgrade to an active low-pressure cell over Vietnam.

“Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the Northeast,” the department added.

Police vow to end Din Daeng pro-democracy protests by Oct

The Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau announced on Saturday that daily demonstrations by a pro-democracy group at the Din Daeng intersection will end by October.

The demonstrations have been organised daily by local people of the Din Daeng area since late August. The protesters, called “Thalu Gas”, have had frequent violent clashes with crowd control police.

The police bureau blamed the protesters for a car accident during a clash on Friday night, and not officials as reported on social media.

Bangkok’s deputy police chief Piya Tawichai explained that a demonstrator had run past the car, which caused the accident. Police later used a water canon to put out the fire caused by the damage to the car.

Siam Niramit ceases Bangkok operations

Siam Niramit Bangkok, where spectacular shows had entertained and educated visitors on Thai culture and history for close to two decades, is closing down due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

According to a report in Thansettakij newspaper, the theatre’s executives this week told over 200 staffers about the permanent closure, as well as the compensation.

Before this decision, Siam Niramit Bangkok had been closed temporarily since March 17, 2021.

The theatre was built on a leased site near the Thailand Cultural Centre in the Ratchada area. Although the lease contract had another seven years to go, the Ratchada Niramit company did not think it would be worth continuing the business, as it would take a long time for Thailand’s economy and tourism to recover.

However, Siam Niramit Phuket has not been closed permanently, though it has been shut temporarily.

Siam Niramit Bangkok opened on October 27, 2005.

NACC denies dragging its feet in probing alleged misuse of police aircraft #SootinClaimon.Com

NACC denies dragging its feet in probing alleged misuse of police aircraft

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is close to reaching a conclusion in the case of police planes being allegedly used to smuggle liquor from Hat Yai, the deputy secretary-general of the NACC, Niwatchai Kasemmongkol, said on Friday.

He was responding to a post on Facebook page “@Watchdog.ACT” which questioned progress of the investigation into the case. The alleged incident took place in March 2018 when two planes of the Royal Thai Police model CN235-220M and Falcon 2000 were reportedly sighted transporting liquor from Hat Yai International Airport in Songkhla province to the Thai Police Aviation Division (TPAD) in Bangkok.

Over 20 cases of liquor were reportedly covered with black plastic bags before being unloaded from the planes to a pickup truck at the TPAD while two police officers reportedly supervised the operation. A similar incident reportedly happened in May 2018, prompting related agencies to file a case with the NACC for immediate investigation.

“Although the incidents had taken place in 2018, the case was actually filed at the NACC only in October 2020, which is less than a year ago,” said Niwatchai.

“The commission found that there is prima facie evidence for two offences: using police airplanes to smuggle liquor without going through Customs procedures, and using police flight training allowance for wrongful propose.

“The NACC has carefully investigated all evidence and witnesses and is nearly at the conclusion stage. The case has not been delayed or interfered with by other parties as rumoured,” he added.

Meanwhile, National Police chief Pol General Suwat Jangyodsuk said that he has ordered Internal Affairs chief Pol General Wisanu Prasatthong-osot to investigate the incident and report the findings as soon as possible.
