The Public Health Ministry on Saturday cancelled reservations for Covid-19 vaccine jabs via the Mor Prom application on July 30-31 due to technical issues.

“The ministry would like to apologise to the people and hospital staff for any inconvenience,” the Public Health Ministry said.

China, Thailand support each other in fighting COVID-19: Thai deputy PM

“With the good cooperation that we have had with each other, we will continue to help each other to the best we can, and this will continue endlessly,” said the Thai deputy PM.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said China and Thailand have had good cooperation on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and the two countries will continue to support each other in this regard.

Expressing his gratitude for China’s assistance in fighting the pandemic, Anutin said “the Chinese government has always supported our country to the most extent, and we have received lots of contributions.”

“I could say loudly that Thai people always feel the wonderful brotherhood between the Chinese and the Thais,” Anutin said in a recent interview with Xinhua.

“With the good cooperation that we have had with each other, we will continue to help each other to the best we can, and this will continue endlessly,” said Anutin, who is also the country’s public health minister.

China’s Sinovac vaccine is the first COVID-19 vaccine that entered Thailand, and has helped the Southeast Asian country kick-start its national inoculation program, with Anutin taking the first shot.

The Chinese vaccines are the major vaccines that Thailand is using to inoculate its people, said Anutin, expecting that by the year end, the vast majority of the people could be vaccinated.

As Thailand is grappling with the worst wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, with its medical system being overwhelmed, the country needs speedy vaccine rollout to control the situation.

As of Saturday, China has provided to Thailand 19 batches of vaccines, according to data from the Chinese Embassy to Thailand.

Despite the current COVID-19 situation, Anutin said “the plan to open up our country is still there,” hoping that the situation could get better in the next few months and Thailand could welcome tourists from China as ever before.

To reboot the tourism-reliant economy and revive the tourism sector, Thailand aims to open up to fully-vaccinated foreign tourists later this year.

On Saturday, the country reported 18,912 new cases, the highest single-day tally since the pandemic began, raising the total number of infections to nearly 600,000. Cumulative fatalities have risen to 4,857, up by 178 over the last 24 hours, also a record high.

No impact on Phuket tourism sandbox from increased screening measures: governor #SootinClaimon.Com

No impact on Phuket tourism sandbox from increased screening measures: governor

Phuket Governor Narong Woonsiew said on Saturday that the tourism sandbox campaign in the province would not be affected by the increased screening measures to prevent imported Covid-19 cases.

The governor issued an order on Thursday barring vehicles entering the province from outside Phuket from August 3 to 16, as part of Covid-19 preventive measures. Exceptions will be made for ambulances, vehicles of rescue staff and of financial institutions, transport of medical tools, chemicals, medicines, animal feed, agricultural products, fuels, petrol, parcels, machines, construction materials and auto parts.

People who for at least 14 days before arrival have received full doses of Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines, or one dose of AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson and Johnson will be allowed to enter the island.

“The order is aimed at making Phuket safe for the Phuket sandbox programme, which primarily reaches out to foreign tourists,” said Narong. “Under the plan, we will gradually increase measures from light to heavy according to the new infections found in the province. This way we can make sure that the outbreak is under control while the province’s economy, which relies heavily on tourism, can continue to recover.”

The governor added that Phuket would start increasing disease control measures when more than 90 new cases have been found in a week to keep the sandbox programme safe.

“In the first week of the programme [July 1-7], we found 25 new cases, 48 new cases in the second week [July 8-14], 69 new cases in the third week [July 15-21], and 185 new cases in the fourth week [July 22-28],” he said. “Of these, only six were patients from the sandbox campaign while the rest were locals and imported cases from other provinces.”

“Hospital bed occupancy in Phuket is currently at 36 per cent, or 249 out of 694 beds are being used, which means the province is still capable of treating new patients and the sandbox programme could therefore continue as planned,” he added.

The Digital Economy and Society Ministry (DES) has warned people against believing or sharing news and internet posts that over 300 military officers have been dispatched to detain Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to prepare for a coup detat.

“The ministry has contacted the Royal Thai Army and was told that this information is false,” ministry spokeswoman Nopphawan Huajaiman said on Saturday.

“The Army also said that those spreading this fake news clearly aimed to undermine the stability of the government and the military, and that they had filed a police complaint to pursue legal action against the rumour-mongers.”

Nopphawan urged people not to share such posts as they will only spread confusion and public panic. She suggested that people receive the latest updates about the Army from official channels of the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Thai Army.

Phang Nga reopening to foreign tourists postponed to Aug 15

The reopening of Phang Nga province to foreign tourists scheduled for August 1 has been postponed to August 15, provincial governor Jamroen Thippayaphongthada said on Friday.

“We decided to postpone the reopening under the ‘Phang Nga Prompt’ campaign to August 15, as the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration has yet to approve the reopening date previously scheduled for August 1,” he said. “The other reason is the province’s integration with the Mor Chana contact tracing platform is not yet complete.”

“Lastly, the province has seen new cluster cases in the past week and therefore needs more time to publicise disease control measures to the locals at the community level,” he added.

On Friday, Phang Nga reported 37 new cases, bringing cumulative cases in the province since April 1 to 640 patients.

Jamroen added that he had called a meeting with tourist entrepreneurs in the province regarding the postponement, and most of the business owners agreed that the postponement was necessary, and the economic impact should be at an acceptable level.

Phang Nga had estimated that more than 20,000 tourists would visit the province in the first month of reopening, generating more than THB2.6 billion of direct and indirect income to local businesses.

The Phang Nga Prompt campaign is linked to the Tourism Ministry’s “7+7 Island Hopping” scheme under which vaccinated tourists who stayed in Phuket for seven days can travel to nearby islands in Phang Nga, Surat Thani and Krabi provinces for another seven days, provided they tested negative via RT-PCR method.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Pipat Ratchakitprakarn said on Friday that the scheme would be postponed indefinitely pending approval from the CCSA.
