Before getting the vaccine, recipients are advised to:
• Get adequate sleep
• Avoid alcohol, tea or coffee

• Ensure they have no fever or other symptoms before the jab
• Avoid intensive exercise two days before and after the jab

Recipients are advised to arrive at the venue ahead of the appointed time and ensure they have their ID card. Medics will check the recipient’s blood pressure and ask relevant questions before delivering the jab. Recipients will be monitored for side effects for 30 minutes before receiving an appointment for the second jab.
Only about one-third of Bangkok’s markets pass DDC’s safety standards: BMA
Only 97 out of 274 markets recently inspected by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) pass the safety standards stipulated by Department of Disease Control (DDC), the BMA said on Sunday.
The city is planning to inspect all 486 markets in its areas in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19, as fresh markets are often the source of cluster cases.
Only about one-third of Bangkok’s markets pass DDC’s safety standards: BMA
The BMA reported that the reasons why many markets failed the inspection were:
▪︎ 4 per cent have no proper ventilation system.
▪︎ 20 per cent have no check-in and checkout platforms (Thai Chana or Mor Chana) to trace the visitors.
▪︎ 18 per cent have no screening checkpoints at entrance/exit.
▪︎ 7 per cent have no measures to limit the number of customers.
▪︎ 24 per cent fail to enforce social distancing measures.
▪︎ 8 per cent lack hand-washing stations.
▪︎ 7 per cent fail to adhere to mandatory face mask rule.
▪︎ 9 per cent fail cleaning standards.
▪︎ 3 per cent fail to keep record of merchants and employees.

The BMA urged all markets to strictly follow measures prescribed by the DDC for the safety of merchants, customers and nearby communities.

Bangkok ready for vaccination drive from June 7: Aswin
The governor of Bangkok, General Aswin Kwanmuang, said all vaccination units outside hospitals were ready for the inoculation drive from June 7.
He was speaking after visiting the Covid-19 Vaccination Service Unit at Thai PBS television station, which is a vaccination service point outside the hospital in Laksi district.
The goal is to provide vaccination services to 1,000-2,000 people per day day from 9am to 4pm, he said. On Sunday, the system was tested by vaccinating groups at risks, such as health personnel and volunteers, with aftercare and symptoms observation.
He said all 25 Covid-19 vaccination service units outside hospitals were ready both in the service system and administration.
There is a service available to people to reserve for Covid-19 vaccination via the “Thai Ruam Jai” Bangkok vaccine registration system.
The Bangkok governor expects 70,000 people to be injected per day.
He urged people to come as per their appointment time and date as the system sends an SMS. He said if people come by appointment, everyone would be vaccinated.
From June 7-14, people will get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

How a teenager is overcoming odds to pursue a career in the medical field
The room is littered with garbage, as is the area outside the small house in Huai Thalaeng district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Amid this pile, a Matthayom 6 student, Kenjira Khanongmat, is taking her online classes, unperturbed by the piles gathered in her house.
Kenjira goes through her life without any carping about her predicament.
Many schools, including Huai Thalaeng Witthayakhom School, have had to organise online classes due to Covid-19 spreading in provinces nationwide.
Kenjira was forced to study at her house, surrounded by garbage because her parents are garbage collectors. But she never blames her parents for her situation. On the contrary, she is grateful for the livelihood their work provides.
She said that even she has been helping them collect garbage since she was 10 years old to give some relief to her parents. She said the money obtained from selling the garbage helps pay for her education.
She wants to study at the university level to qualify as a nurse or medical personnel.

Her sense of gratitude, and her intelligence — borne out by her grade point average of 3.84 — were recently recognised by the villagers in the area. They are also encouraging her to achieve success. Kenjira is a teen focused on working towards fulfilling her dream.

Livestock department warns of criminal action over fake news on pork, chicken consumption
The Department of Livestock Development (DLD) on Sunday urged people not to believe and share fake news about the ban on consumption of pork and chicken for six months as they had been infected with Aids.
The department director-general, Sorawit Thaneeto, said this fake news was shared every year, claiming that it was made by people who wanted to ruin the country’s livestock industry and raise concerns among the people.
He warned that people who shared fake news would face imprisonment, a fine, or both under the Computer Crime Act BE 2560 (2017).
“The department had implemented measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases on livestock by sending officials to investigate areas nationwide,” he said.
He added that the Criminal Court on November 30, 2018 had awarded two years’ imprisonment and THB100,000 fine for allegedly sharing such fake news via social media.
“People who find such fake news can capture the screenshot and submit it via DLD4.0 smartphone application,” he added.
NHSO pays THB400,000 compensation in three cases of deaths after vaccination
More than 260 people have sought compensation, and 162 were approved for serious side-effects attributed to vaccination, Dr Jadej Thammatach-aree, secretary-general of the National Health Security Office (NHSO), revealed.
From June 7, Thailand will embark on a mass vaccination campaign against Covid-19 across the country with a goal of covering 50 million people or 70 per cent of the total population.
The authorities have braced for the possibility of some people having adverse reactions after vaccination.
The government has a policy to make preliminary aid payments to such groups to ensure that people are taken care of.
Dr Jadej said that the NHSO needed to explain to the people that in case of suspected adverse effect or death from the vaccine, people can apply for preliminary aid.
Recently, six cases of deaths were filed across the country. In one case submitted to the Bangkok subcommittee, the experts ruled that the death was not related to the vaccination against Covid-19.
Compensation of THB400,000 was approved by the NHSO in three cases of deaths linked to vaccination.
One of the victims, Somchai Muangwang, 50, received the Covid-19 vaccine in Pathum Thani province. The subcommittee said his heart had been damaged. It was a symptom that occurred after vaccination, as he had tightness of the chest, and died five days after inoculation. The victim was the head of a family, the caregiver of his parents, and the main income earner of the family. NHSO transferred the money to his son’s account on June 4.
Udon Yenjit, village headman of Huai Ma subdistrict in Muang Phrae district, received the Covid-19 vaccination on May 17. On the night of May 18, he had an emergency illness and was taken to Phrae Hospital and later died.
The wife of the deceased said that after vaccinating against Covid-19, her husband continued to work normally. On the day of the incident, her husband went to bed at around 3pm and had trouble breathing. He was swiftly sent to the hospital where he died.
According to treatment history, it was found that the deceased had Thyrotoxicosis, which was identified as the primary cause of death (acute heart failure). However, the family of the deceased received THB400,000 compensation as the committee considered it an adverse event that occurred due to the Covid-19 vaccination.
In the third case, the deceased (name withheld) received the first vaccine dose on May 14, and there were no abnormal symptoms during the first 30 minutes. Two days later, on May 16, there was slight muscle soreness. Three days later, on May 19, he lost consciousness so he was admitted to Sikarin Hospital, Hat Yai, in Songkhla province. On May 22, he started having headaches, fatigue and loss of consciousness and passed away on May 27.
This case is considered an adverse reaction to the Covid-19 vaccination. Although it is not conclusively related to vaccination, the NHSO took a lenient view to alleviate the family’s suffering as the deceased was the pillar of the family. The subcommittee, therefore, resolved to pay THB400,000.
Andrographis paniculata added to national medicine list to treat Covid patients with mild symptoms
