On Tuesday (September 20), Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister And Minister Of Foreign Affairs Participated In The Transforming Education Summit (TES) Side Event On “Mental Health Promotion And Prevention In Schools And Learning Environments: An Urgent Call To Action For World Leaders And Donors”.

The event was co-hosted by UNICEF, WHO, UNESCO, Queen of Spain and Thailand, at UNICEF House, New York.

The event provided a platform for sharing information and evidence around the impact of school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic on children and adolescents’ mental health and the cost-benefit of school-based mental health interventions; and for securing public commitments from governments and donors to take action and invest in promoting and protecting learners’ and educators’ mental health and psychosocial well-being in the education sector.

Don shared thoughts on how best to prioritize mental health and well-being of children and young people in schools. He highlighted three key messages:

(1) Schools could help to promote good emotional health and mental well-being and help detect early behavioural changes and signs of mental distress, while highlighting Thailand’s School Health HERO initiative.

(2) Schools can help deter mental health problems, through increasing students’ resilience to daily demands and challenges, promoting self-confidence through goal-setting and mental health stability training, as well as cultivating positive thinking and developing the right mindset for changes.

(3) Schools must provide a creative and conducive learning environment for all, especially to motivate students to make up for their learning and socialization deficit during COVID-19.

Don also reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to transform education to be a “booster dose of inspiration” for all children in the context of COVID-19 and beyond, as well as continue to invest in education to ensure that children grow and thrive with joy and positivity.

The Korean Cultural Center In Thailand And Kakao Webtoon Unveil The Webtoon About Thai War Veterans Of Korean War From September 24.

The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand (Director: Mr Cho, Jae Il, ‘The center’) and Kakao Webtoon (Kakao), the representative webtoon platform from Korea, unveil the series, titled “One Day, My Favorite K-Pop Idol Group Leader Disappeared!” on September 24. The webtoon has been produced by the center and Kakao for the last 18 months to commemorate the sacrifices of Thai veterans who participated in the Korean War, to protect Korean’s freedom and peace. The Center and the author, Kim, Suea met with Thai veterans in person and interviewed them about their experiences, after that Thai cartoonist Phoenix illustrated it.

As its title indicates, the historical fantasy begins with the sudden disappearance of the leading member ‘K’ of a chart-topping K-pop boy band named Little Tiger. While his entire existence begins to mysteriously fade from the public’s memory, the protagonist Pim, a plastic surgery doctor and the only devoted fan who remembers him, ends up time traveling into the past ― to the outbreak of the Korean War. Pim’s journey is expected to be filled with encounters with young Thai soldiers and watching their activities with sacrifices.

The band’s name, Little Tiger, comes from the moniker given by the then-commander of the 8th United States Army to recognize the Thai battalion’s valor.

The series will be released from EP1 to EP6 on September 24, and then will be published serially every Sunday, by 3 weeks on to 1 week off. The readers can enjoy free trial part of this series by the Center’s SNS and website.

The center also hosts ‘K-webtoon exhibition’ with Kakao from October 10, to promote this series and famous Korean webtoon in Kakao, at the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand. There will be ‘meetings with authors’ event as well.

“Although there is K-pop fever among young Thai people here, they are not fully aware of the sacrifices made by Thai War veterans and the rice support from Thai government.” KCC Thailand Director Cho Jae-il said in a statement. “This realization is what prompted us to launch this webcomic series to make them to remember Thai war veterans. I also hope that this webcomic series promote friendly relations between two countries, and it will be the successful Korean-Thai soft power cooperation.”

The Campaign Aims To Encourage Thai Tourists To Present New Tourist Attractions Or Individual-Styled Trips Through TikTok And Get A Chance To Win Accommodation Packages Over Thailand Worth More Than 300,000 Baht.

Nithee Seeprae; the Deputy Governor for Digital Research and Development of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Chanida Khlaiphan; the Head of Public Policy-Thailand of TikTok, and Khuean – Pataradanai Setsuwan; a famous influencer, have participated in a live-streaming press conference broadcasted through YouTube Channel: Amazing Thailand. 

Nithee said that the outbreak of Covid-19 in the past 2-3 years is the main factor accelerating a change in innovation and technology, especially in digital technology that has played an important role in the tourism industry.

TAT has foreseen the importance of utilizing digital technology to drive the tourism industry, in order to meet the demand of the new generation’s lifestyle and encourage efficient domestic tourism.

For that reason, TAT has joined hands with TikTok, a popular social media platform, and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to digitize Songkran traditions and festivals; creatively supporting Thai cultures with online technology.

TAT has cooperated with TikTok to launch a campaign named “New Style Trip” in order to create a tourism trend through a microblogging platform (pictures or short videos).

Tourists can use TikTok as a medium to present videos of tourist attractions or create videos showing their unique-styled trips. Participants will get a chance to win accommodation packages worth more than 300,000 baht.

Not only will the campaign promote tourist attractions to be more well-known, but it will also stimulate and drive the economy in the tourism industry.

Chanida said that apart from being a platform providing entertainment to billion of people over the world, TikTok’s creative power has also created many positive impacts on society through communities of people who share the same interests.

Travelling is one of the growing comminutes on TikTok with more than 1.6 billion views in the hashtag #เที่ยว and more than 575 million views in the hashtag #เที่ยวไทย.

Other travelling-related hashtags have also seen a growth spurt such as solo travelling, travelling with a partner, travelling with friends, idle trips, or tourist attraction-related hashtags.

The cooperation with TAT for the hashtag #เที่ยวแบบใหม่สไตล์คุณ (New Style Trip) has achieved grand success with more than 28.5 million views in only two weeks after the campaign was launched.

Not only does the extremely-satisfying growth rate of this hashtag help spread the users’ awareness, but it also helps inspire various new ideas to create content for retelling a new aspect of each trip.

Plus, it also strengthens the travelling community on TikTok. We genuinely wish that this cooperation with TAT will be a part to help stimulate the tourism industry and encourage domestic tourism among Thai people, all the while sharing a new aspect of each tourist attraction by creating fun content on TikTok. SPRC and its alliance groups had gathered more than 1,000 volunteers attending the cleaning event at Mae Ramphueng Beach, Rayong Province, in addition, almost 3,000 kilograms of trash were collected. Thailand has been being fully aware of the importance of the conservation and protection of its coastal area. Therefore, the event was held by aiming to restore the natural beauty of the beach and raise the awareness of the environmental problem happened to the coastline eco-system, as well as the awareness of general duty on public cleanliness.

Mr Robert Dobrik, revealed that “Previously, the coastal protection campaign was created worldwide. Several countries have carried out some social services on the same day. Later, the International Coastal Cleaning Day was set on the third Saturday of September every year. SPRC, therefore, has joined with alliance organizations continuously organizing the event, the 20th anniversary this year. The event aims to create the awareness of the coastal eco-system and environment problem to every section, for examples the Industrial Entrepreneurs, Related Organizations, locals, and the youths, as well as to raise the engagement to public on coastal cleanliness especially in Rayong, one of the most beautiful coastal areas. The event was held this year under the campaign of “Sea the Change” where all volunteers gathered and collected trash along Mae Ramphueng Beach for more than 10 kilometers. Moreover, there were some competitions of trash collecting to win the scholarships rewards for 6 schools in Ban Phe Subdistrict Municipality, and Ta Phong Subdistrict Administrative Organization. Besides, all waste and trash were sorted and recorded quantitively for the further analysis of the cause of beach-waste problem and a campaign on prevention in the future.”

As a result, 1,000 of volunteers had collected almost 3 tons of trash which announced its success and the unity of Rayong people for unignoring any environment problems especially to their coastal eco-systems. As The 22 Millionth Refrigerator Rolled Off The Production Line At Arcelik Hitachi Home Appliances’ Thailand Factory, The Company Marks Another Production Milestone While Fulfilling The International Standard In Terms Of Energy Management, And Recognized With ISO 50001:2018 Certificate

The manufacturer, distributor, and aftersales services provider of Hitachi branded home appliances globally, Arcelik Hitachi Home Appliances announced that the company achieved a 22 million production milestone of refrigerators in Thailand and received ISO 50001:2018 certification for the energy performance of its management systems.

“Thailand has been one of the major manufacturing bases for Hitachi refrigerators for over 40 years, a centre for domestic sales and exporting to than 65 countries around the world. In 2022, another proud milestone has been achieved, as the 22 millionth refrigerator rolled off the production line at Kabinburi factory in Prachinburi Province.” said Zafer Ustuner, Arcelik Hitachi Home Appliances CEO.

Efficient energy management guaranteed with ISO 50001 certification

Arcelik Hitachi has always placed great importance on social and environmental responsibilities based on the Arcelik approaches to sustainability. The Thailand factory has actively implemented plans for the purposes of energy efficiency, solar energy usage, as well as the use of energy-saving technologies, water management, CO2 and greenhouse gas reductions. Additionally, it reports energy consumption data transparently.

Recently, Arcelik Hitachi was recognized with a certificate from the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 50001:2018, in August.

The United States Agency For International Development (Usaid), WildAid, And Thailand’s Department Of National Parks, Wildlife And Plant Conservation (DNP) Launches The ‘Only Elephants Wear Ivory Best’ Campaign To Reduce The Use And Purchase Of Jewellery And Accessories Made From Ivory.

The campaign enlists Cindy Sirinya Bishop, Thai actress and model, and Master Tossaporn Sritula, Thai Astrology and Feng Shui Expert as campaign ambassadors to deliver the message that ivory belongs to elephants, dissuading consumers from future ivory purchases. The campaign also features two 32-second videos starring the ambassadors.
 
The campaign, called ‘Only elephants wear ivory best’,  builds upon USAID’s Wildlife Asia’s first ‘Beautiful without ivory campaign’ in 2020 that reached and engaged those who desire to buy or use ivory jewellery and accessories because of its perceived beauty.

“I have always said no to wearing fur or modelling jewellery made from ivory and exotic animal parts. I believe such products are most beautiful and have the most value on the animal itself. I hope that with this campaign, I can pass on the same message to the viewers and in my own small way, help reduce the demand for elephant ivory,” said Cindy Sirinya Bishop.
 
According to a Usaid  2020  survey,  the ‘Beautiful without ivory’ campaign helped decrease Thai consumers’ intention to purchase ivory products by 50 per cent and the social acceptability of buying and using ivory products by  50 per cent compared to a similar Usaid survey in 2018.  The perception that  ‘ivory is beautiful’ decreased from 67% in 2018 to nearly 48% in 2020.

“We found it very encouraging that the Beautiful without Ivory campaign was remarkably successful in changing attitudes in target groups in just a short time. We hope that ‘Only Elephants Wear Ivory Best’ will continue this trend. The U.S. Government remains committed to our productive partnership with Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation —to end the illegal wildlife trade and protect our environmental and human health by reducing the demand for illegal wildlife products,” said Suphasuk Pradubsuk, Program Development Specialist, Regional Environment Office, Usaid Regional Development Mission for Asia.

A new element to this campaign is its aim to counter a secondary factor that drives the desire for ivory products – the belief that these products bring luck leading to a good life and happiness.  “Things that can help enhance your luck must come from a good starting point. How can amulets made from ivory obtained unnaturally from the elephants make our life better? It is only by doing good and showing compassion towards fellow humans and animals that we can attract good in our lives. Ivory belongs to elephants and brings the most happiness to the elephants themselves,” said Master Tossaporn Sritula.

“Since 2018, DNP has worked closely with Usaid and WildAid to help reduce the demand for illegal elephant ivory products. Reducing demand for illegal wildlife products is one of the other strategies to halt illegal trade that aligns with the guidance of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). We truly believe that by putting an effort into law enforcement together with positive demand reduction campaigns like “Only Elephants Wear Ivory Best”, we can create new value in society to halt the use of wildlife products, which will contribute significantly to the prevention of illegal trade in ivory” said Rutchada Suriyakul Na Ayutya, Director General of the DNP.


The campaign’s launch featured a virtual fireside chat among the campaign ambassadors, Usaid, and the DNP, where they engaged in a lively conversation about the situation of wildlife trade today and how the world needs to evolve so that use of wildlife products becomes totally unacceptable. The virtual launch is available for viewing on WildAid Thailand’s and the DNP’s Facebook page. 
 
“Cindy and Master Tossaporn so eloquently expressed the message that ivory belongs only to elephants and they wear it best. WildAid has been running campaigns to reduce the demand for elephant ivory in Thailand since 2016 and with help from such influential voices, government agencies, and media partners, we hope to establish a new societal norm around ivory and protecting elephants. Together, we can end the demand for ivory,” said John Baker, Chief Program Officer, WildAid.  
 
Usaid, WildAid, and the DNP will continue to deliver the campaign’s communication materials through social media channels and out-of-home media placement to maximize the campaign’s reach with the goal to change consumers’ perception and behaviour around elephant ivory.

As one of the specialists in water resource management in Thailand, Dr Royol Chitradon began a research project titled “Management of Water Resources to Solve Flooding Problems in Community Areas.” He designed the Weather 901 system to monitor changes in weather conditions, water situations, rainfalls, and wind direction across the globe in order to send real-time climate information and formulate a plan to assist people in a timely manner. The system has developed into the “National Water and Climate Data Warehouse,” which is the nation’s new water resource management system based on advanced information technology, integrating water resource management-related databases, knowledge, research, and data science in order to provide actionable answers to water issues across the country.  This system is accessible to anyone on www.thaiwater.net and the ThaiWater mobile application, which will not only be used by agencies and organizations, but also by the general public, who can track the water and weather condition independently, anywhere, at any time, for free.

Dr Royol has carried out other significant information technology development initiatives, including a compact mobile telemeter system, a data grid, and a geographical information infrastructure, among others. He pursues royally initiated projects in the area of community water resource management in accordance with the principles of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, simultaneously resolving flooding and drought issues and developing areas in irrigated zones to ensure reliable supply of water, while also creating modest structure to oversee water management in non-irrigated areas. These efforts have helped to combine a number of methods considered appropriate to local conditions in order to systematically develop water, agriculture, and energy, all of which contribute to the promotion of strategic community water resource management. To achieve sustainable development, it is necessary for local communities and their networks to work together to strike a healthy economic and social balance.

By understanding the interplay between communities and nature, Dr Royol ‘s concept of systematic problem solving, along with the development and use of information technology to aid in supporting community water management operations and changing the lives of the people in the community, has allowed them to achieve their goal of having sufficient water for both consumption and agricultural use. Since farmers can plant crops at any time of the year and local economies can benefit from an abundance of natural resources, these communities will be more resilient to climate change and natural disasters like floods and droughts. They are also better able to find long-term solutions to issues like poverty. Currently, Dr Royol serves as the Board Chairman of the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII), in addition to serving on various other boards and committees for charitable and nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving local communities.
