Real Madrid kick off season with 4-1 win away to Alaves
Real Madrid celebrate a 4-1 win away to Alaves in La Liga season opener, while Chinas Wu Lei played 63 minutes in Espanyols return to the top flight.
Real Madrid kicked off the new season Saturday with a 4-1 win away to Alaves thanks to two goals from Karim Benzema and a header from defender Nacho Fernandez.
Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard both started for Real Madrid, but the game was even in the first half and it wasn’t until the 48th minute that Benzema opened the scoring after a move involving Bale and Hazard.

Nacho then doubled Real Madrid’s lead following a smart free kick and good work from Rede Valverde allowed Benzema to net his second of the game.
Although Joselu got a goal back from the penalty spot, Vinicius Jr added Madrid’s fourth in injury time to complete a satisfactory return for Carlo Ancelotti.
Saturday’s three other games all ended in draws with Espanyol returning to La Liga with a 0-0 draw away to Osasuna. Wu Lei played 63 minutes for Espanyol on their return to the top flight.
Mallorca took a point on their return to La Liga with a 1-1 draw at home to Betis, after Betis striker Juanmi canceled out Brian Olivan’s first half opener with the help of a big deflection off Mallorca keeper Manolo Reina.
A 96th minute equalizer from Cadiz forward Alfonso Espino rescued a point for his side at home Levante, who led though Jose Luis Morales’ 50th top-flight goal in the 39th minute of the game.
Levante did enough to win the game, but Cadiz’s pressure in the closing moments saw them rescue a point that looked to be lost.
On Friday night, Carlos Soler got Valencia and new boss Pepe Bordalas off to a winning start with a 1-0 win at home to Bordalas’ former club Getafe. Valencia had defender Hugo Guillamon sent off in the second minute of the game, but Soler’s first half penalty was enough to give them a win against a rival that had a lot of the ball, but looked light in attack.
Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool send early message out to Manchester City in Premier League
Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all off to highly flying start to the English Premier Leagues new season.
Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United sounded out a warning to the Premier League with a 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United.
New signing Raphael Varane was presented to the fans in Old Trafford ahead of the game and United’s other new arrival Jadon Sancho was on the bench, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side kicked off with virtually the same starting 11 as last season.

Fernandes put his side ahead in the 30th minute and although Luke Ayling drew Leeds level three minutes after halftime, quickfire goals from Mason Greenwood and Fernandez in the 52nd and 54th minute put United firmly in the driving seat.
Fernandes completed his hat-trick on 60 minutes and Fred made it 5-1 eight minutes later.
There was no record signing Romelu Lukaku for Chelsea, but the European Champions also made their Premier League ambitions clear with a 3-0 win which ruined Patrick Viera’s debut as Crystal Palace coach.
Chelsea dominated from start to finish with Marcos Alonso and Christian Pulisic putting them 2-0 up at the break and defender Trevor Chalobah scored his first Premier League goal just before the hour.
Liverpool also showed they mean business as they claimed a 3-0 victory away to Norwich City, with Diogo Jota putting Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead on 26 minutes, before Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah rounded off a good afternoon for Liverpool, who had Virgil van Dijk back in the side after last season’s knee injury.
It was business as usual for veteran striker Jamie Vardy, who scored the only goal of the game to give Leicester City a 1-0 win over Wolves, who had chances but looked blunt in attack.
Everton came back from conceding an Adam Armstrong goal to give Rafael Benitez a winning start at Goodison Park. Richarlison, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominc Carvert-Lewin all scored after the break to give Everton a 3-1 victory over Southampton.
Mohamed Salah (2nd L) in action during the 2021-2022 season English Premier League first round match between Norwich City and Liverpool in Norwich, England, on Aug. 14, 2021.
Former Southampton striker Danny Ings netted a 97th minute penalty, but it was not enough to save Aston Villa from a 3-2 defeat away to Watford, with the side that has returned to the top-flight taking the points thanks to goals from goals from Emmanuel Bonaventure, Ismaila Sarr and ‘Cucho’ Hernandez.
Brighton got off to a winning start as goals on 72 and 78 minutes from Neal Maupay and Alex McAlister saw them overturn James Tarkovski’s second minute opener for Burnley.
Newly promoted Brentford kicked off the new season in winning style on Friday night as goals in each half from Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard gave them a 2-0 win over a very disappointing Arsenal.
Manchester City visit Tottenham and Newcastle United entertain West Ham in Sunday’s remaining matches.
STRONG THAI SHOWING AT 2021 TRUST GOLF WOMENS SCOTTISH OPEN
Ariya Jutanugarn and Atthaya Thitikul narrowly missed out on 2021 Trust Golf Womens Scottish Open victory after Ryann OToole closed out an incredible round of 64 to win her first LPGA title.
Atthaya Thitikul was only one stroke behind the leaders going into the final round at Dumbarnie Links, a round of 66 saw a total of eight birdies to finish in a tie for second place alongside New Zealand’s Lydia Ko. The 18-year old was proud of her performance and has her sights set on obtaining an LPGA card – “I putt pretty well today and hit a pretty solid round today. 6-under, but at least it’s not enough for the win, but I just know that I tried my best and I’m proud of myself already.

I will say I just feel good. My focus for this year, trying to improve myself every day and then trying to get the card, member card on LPGA.” Former world no 1, Ariya Jutanugarn had an impressive final round that saw an eagle on the 2nd hole and three birdies on the back nine to leave her at -13 and in solo fourth place. Jutanugarn has become fond of links golf after a great performance this week – “I would say I really enjoy playing links right now because I feel like it’s really interesting and really challenge, like just depend how the weather going and it’s so much fun this week and I feel like I have pretty good experience.”
Jasmine Suwannapura’s 69 which included 7 birdies left her at -7 and in a tie for 15th place. The 2020 AIG Women’s Open runner up has found this week a great learning experience – I haven’t really played on a windy golf course before. We only play in Scotland for two weeks a year, so to be able to come back here and play really windy course and the links course, it’s really fun for me. So this week, I learned that my hybrid can go 130-yard shot, which is really rare for me. But yeah, we just have to adapt and get better, be better and learn from each shot.”
The other Thai’s on the leader board include, Pajaree Anannarukarn who finished T22 after a second consecutive 69, and Patty Tavatanakit who shot a superb final round of 67 which included 2 eagles and 2 birdies to finish at T27.

It will be her second appearance in the Women’s Open. Thammaraks explained “To be able to play my second British Open would be amazing. I played my first one here and that’s still one of my favourite things to do. Coming here, I didn’t really think that I was going to stay and play another one. But what a way to spend my off week. I am so grateful to Trust Golf for the invite here as I had a great week here at Dumbarnie and its lead me TO qualifying for Carnoustie too! “

GULF Announces Q2’21 Core Profit Growth of 42% YoY after GSRC Unit 1 Begins Commercial Operation
GULF recorded net profit attributable to the parent company, which includes the impact from foreign exchange rate, of 1,407 million baht, a decrease of 25.2% YoY compared to net profit of 1,881 million baht in Q2’20.
Ms. Yupapin Wangviwat, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, Gulf Energy Development Plc. (GULF), revealed “For the second quarter of this year, GULF recorded a core profit of 1,401 million baht, an increase of 412 million baht or 42% year-on-year (YoY). The increase was mainly from the profit of Gulf SRC power project’s (GSRC) first unit following the commercial operation on March 31, 2021, with an installed power generation capacity of 662.5 megawatts (MW) and an average load factor of 88% in this quarter. The rise in core profit also comes from the higher volume of electricity sales of 12 SPPs under GMP group and 7 SPPs under GJP group to industrial customers from all industries, especially from the automotive, electronic components and steel industries. In Q2’21, the average load factor of industrial customers for the 12 SPPs was 63%, increasing from 51% last year, while the 7 SPPs had an average load factor of 66%, rising from 57% last year. Additionally, the volume of electricity sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand from the 2 IPPs under GJP group increased by 148% YoY, resulting in more plant efficiency. GULF also recorded share of profit from PTT NGD of 63 million baht from the company’s investment of 42% equity stake.
Compared to the previous quarter, core profit decreased by 989 million baht or 41.4% due to the absence of dividend income from Intouch Holdings Public Company Limited (INTUCH) in this quarter, as well as from Borkum Riffgrund 2 (BKR2) offshore wind power plant project’s lower volume of electricity sales due to seasonality, since Q2 and Q3 are low season while Q1 and Q4 are peak season for offshore wind power projects in Germany.

GULF Announces Q2’21 Core Profit Growth of 42% YoY after GSRC Unit 1 Begins Commercial Operation
Total revenue for Q2’21 was recorded at 11,845 million baht, an increase of 2,707 million baht or 29.6% YoY. The rise in revenue is mainly due to the revenue from GSRC Unit 1’s commercial operation in Q1’21, the revenue recognized from BKR2 offshore wind power project, which was recognized for the first time in Q4’20, and from the higher electricity and steam sales to industrial customers of the GMP group. Meanwhile, electricity sales from GTN1 and GTN2 solar power projects in Vietnam had a slight drop due to the temporary curtailment from the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting the nation’s electricity demand.
The EBITDA margin was 35.6%, an increase from 31.9% YoY. This was mainly due to a decrease in natural gas costs by 8.7% YoY, despite the decline in average Ft rate.
GULF recorded net profit attributable to the parent company, which includes the impact from foreign exchange rate, of 1,407 million baht, a decrease of 25.2% YoY compared to net profit of 1,881 million baht in Q2’20. This resulted from the unrealized gain of 892 million baht in the previous year, while there was unrealized gain of 6 million baht in Q2’21.
As of June 30, 2021, GULF had net interest-bearing debt to equity ratio of 1.75 times, which is still lower than the bond covenant level of 3.50 times.
GULF Announces Q2’21 Core Profit Growth of 42% YoY after GSRC Unit 1 Begins Commercial Operation
“Following the completion of the tender offer for INTUCH securities, GULF has 42.25% equity stake in INTUCH. The acquisition was financed by loans from Thai financial institutions of approximately 48,612 million baht. GULF plans to issue debentures totaling approximately 20 billion baht within this year. The proceeds will be used for future investments to support the company’s growth as well as partial loan repayment for the acquisition of INTUCH shares. In addition, the company will immediately book dividend income of approximately 1.6 billion baht in the third quarter this year,” Ms. Yupapin added.
GULF Announces Q2’21 Core Profit Growth of 42% YoY after GSRC Unit 1 Begins Commercial Operation
For the second half of 2021, GULF has a lineup of projects that will soon begin commercial operation such as the 128-MW ‘Mekong Wind’ offshore wind farm in Vietnam. Phase 1-3 will gradually start operating within Q3-Q4 2021, GSRC unit 2 with an installed capacity of 662.5 MW is scheduled for commercial operation in October 2021, the 326-MW gas-fired power plant in Oman (DIPWP) with an installed capacity of 40MW in the first phase will be in operation by the third and fourth quarter; and solar rooftop projects under Gulf1 with a total installed capacity of 20 MW will be gradually in operation by the end of the year, resulting in the company’s total gross installed capacity of 7,922 MW by the end of 2021.
China urged to review ban on Thai longan as oversupply pulls down price
The Commerce Ministry instructed agriculture and commerce attachés in Beijing on Sunday to urge Chinese authorities to reconsider the ban on longan shipments from Thailand.
The Department of Agriculture will monitor the fruit’s quality and ensure it meets Chinese standards, Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said.
He added that bilateral talks on the subject will be held towards the end of next week.
Before that, Vice Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Naraphat Kaewthong will lead a team of officials to the North to deal with the drop in longan prices, Jurin said.
He explained that top-grade longan is currently going at 35 to 40 baht per kilo, while the second grade is priced at 30 baht per kilo and the domestic market grade at 20 to 25 baht per kilo.
Jurin said there is also a severe shortage of migrant workers, as they cannot return to their jobs in Thailand due to the Covid-19 crisis. This shortage in the workforce has also affected the operation of longan processing factories.

He added that the ministry is planning to sell the fruit at special prices via the government’s Blue Flag stores as well as via grocery trucks and at petrol stations in a bid to boost domestic consumption.
