All 20 tonnes of durian from Chanthaburi’s Khlung district were bought up within an hour of arriving in Shenzhen Airport on Wednesday, said Alongkorn Pollabutr, adviser to the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry.

“Chinese buyers chartered a Shenzhen Airlines plane to take the durians from Thailand to complete online orders,” Alongkorn, who also oversees the ministry’s fruit development and management board, said.

“The ministry aims to penetrate the online marketplace to bring Thai fruits to a wider group of customers,” he said.

Alongkorn said this news was first broken by local online media channels, “so the ministry contacted the Royal Farm Group, which runs the durian pre-ordering platform, to survey customer satisfaction and purchasing behaviour”, he said.

“We aim to find out which breed of durian they like the most and how the fruit’s size and sweetness affect demand in different provinces across China.

“With the instant success of the first 20-tonne lot of more than 10,000 durians, we plan to send another 20-tonne lot and hope they will be sold out in no time,” he added.

“Sombat was aware of my pregnancy and was not against being listed as father and letting the girl use his last name,” she said. “In 2016, he moved me and my daughter to a house that we are still living in today. However, he was rarely home and often went for tournaments both in Thailand and overseas.”

She added that now Sombat has stopped coming home and sends no money despite her repeated requests. She said she was forced to look for a job while having to raise the child alone.

“I have filed the case today, so the court can order Sombat to acknowledge Meetang as his legitimate daughter with me as her legal guardian, as well as pay alimony as required by the law,” she said.

The court has scheduled a meeting with both parties on August 9 at 9am.

A woman went online to complain about another female patient sleeping with her boyfriend in a field hospital in Chiang Mai despite zones clearly separating male and female patients there.

‘This is a field hospital, not a motel’: woman complains about another patient

The woman voiced her complaint via the Facebook page of CM108.com on Wednesday.

According to a photo of the chat box published on the page, the complainer said she wanted CM108.com to voice “her rights” at the field hospital.

She explained that her rights were violated after a woman in her female zone at the field hospital allowed a boyfriend in so she could sleep with him. She also claimed that the boyfriend’s friend followed his mate into the female zone despite a clear separation of the zones for male and female patients.

The complainer added that when she informed hospital staff about this, they simply suggested that she move to another bed.

“This is a field hospital, not a motel,” she concluded.

The baht opened at 31.34 to the US dollar on Thursday, strengthening from its close of 31.36 on Wednesday. The Thai currency is likely to move between 31.30 and 31.40 during the day, Krungthai Bank market strategist Poon Panichpibool said.

Baht expected to strengthen today, but could weaken from virus situation

He predicted that the baht would strengthen on Thursday due to a weakened dollar. However, the Thai currency would weaken if Thailand’s Covid-19 crisis intensifies.

Poon added that the baht would weaken slightly as the number of daily Covid-19 cases in Thailand has stayed at around 2,000.

He explained that exporters would start selling the dollar when the baht weakens to between 31.40 and 31.45.

Meanwhile, importers would purchase the dollar when the baht strengthens near 31.30.

Govt negotiating for patent to manufacture Favipiravir locally

The government is negotiating with foreign firms to get a patent to produce Favipiravir tablets locally, deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said on Wednesday.

Govt negotiating for patent to manufacture Favipiravir locally

“During a Cabinet meeting this week, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul informed the Cabinet that the ministry had ordered enough Favipiravir tablets from Japan to meet current demand in treating Covid-19 patients,” she said.

“Furthermore, the Government Pharmaceutical Orgnisation (GPO) is negotiating with foreign partners to obtain a patent to produce the medicine domestically,” Traisulee said.

She said there would be no monopoly on Favipiravir even after the government obtains the patent.

“Private hospitals will still be able to import the medicine for their own use,” she added.

GPO deputy managing director Sirikul Matevelungsun said earlier this month that Thailand had more than 400,000 Favipiravir tablets in stock and that the GPO had already placed an order for an additional 500,000 tablets to cope with the rising infections.

Up to 70 Favipiravir tablets are needed to treat each Covid-19 patient.
