“Nasket” เป็นทั้งเครื่องที่สามารถใช้ในการสั่งสินค้าได้ สามารถสแกนบาร์โค้ด และบริการดูแลทำความสะอาดบ้าน (โฮมเซอร์วิส) ไว้พร้อมกัน รวมถึงมีบริการเสริมอีกมากมายที่คิดค้นโดยทีมคนไทย และเป็นครั้งแรกในโลกที่มีระบบบริการแบบนี้ ซึ่งนาสเกตได้ออกแบบมาเพื่อตอบโจทย์ไลฟ์สไตล์ชีวิตคนเมืองในปัจจุบัน

ผรินทร์ สงฆ์ประชา ซีอีโอ และ ผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง Nasket บริษัท นาสเกต รีเทล เปิดเผยว่า บริษัทได้เปิดตัว Nasket ออกมาสู่ตลาดอย่างเป็นทางการในปี 2560 โดยเป็นเครื่องที่ลูกค้าสามารถสแกนบาร์โค้ดสินค้าที่ต้องการได้ในห้อง โดยจะเหมือนสินค้าที่มีขายในซูเปอร์มาร์เก็ต หรือในห้าง ซึ่งสินค้าที่สแกนจะมาส่งที่ห้อง และสามารถเลือกจ่ายด้วยเงินสด หรือบัตรเครดิตได้เช่นกัน

พร้อมกันนี้ ยังมีบริการภายในเครื่อง ทั้งบริการดูแลทำความสะอาดบ้าน (โฮมเซอร์วิส) ทั้งบริการเรียกแม่บ้านทำความสะอาด บริการสั่งอาหารได้โดยร่วมมือกับแบรนด์ดังหลายราย รวมถึงชำระค่าบริการต่างๆ ผ่านการสแกนบิลชำระเงินได้ หรือบริการเรียกช่างในด้านต่างๆ ได้เช่นกัน อีกทั้งเมื่อมีคนมาหาที่คอนโด กล่องข้างล่างที่เชื่อมต่อกับนาสเกตจะบันทึกภาพคนที่มาหา และส่งภาพ เอ็มเอ็มเอส (MMS) ไปให้เจ้าของทางโทรศัพท์มือถือในทันที ถือเป็นเครื่องที่มีบริการที่ครอบคลุมทุกความต้องการของลูกค้า และบริษัทได้พัฒนาเป็นรายแรกในโลก

ขณะเดียวกัน บริการดังกล่าวจะให้ผู้ใช้งานเลือกสแกนเพื่อสั่งซื้อสินค้าในช่วงเช้า และในเวลา 19.00 น. ของทุกวัน จะมีสินค้ามาส่งที่ห้อง ทำให้ลูกค้าได้รับความสะดวก โดยกลุ่มเป้าหมายที่เน้นจะเป็นกลุ่มที่อาศัยในคอนโดมิเนียม และเน้นเป็นพื้นที่มีคอนโดมิเนียมจำนวน 300 ยูนิตขึ้นไป อีกทั้งส่งผลดีต่อลูกค้าและไม่ต้องเสียเวลาในการเดินทางไปเลือกซื้อสินค้า หรือต้องไปต่อเข้าแถวคิว

“ผรินทร์” กล่าวถึงจุดเริ่มต้นของ “นาสเกต” เกิดขึ้นมาจากการที่เราเห็นว่า ตลาดอี-คอมเมิร์ซในประเทศไทยมีการเติบโตรวดเร็ว แต่มีตลาดที่เล็ก จึงสนใจดึงตลาดกลุ่มลูกค้าที่นิยมซื้อสินค้าออฟไลน์มาสู่ตลาดออนไลน์ให้ได้ ประกอบกับที่ผ่านมา ตนเองมีประสบการณ์การทำงานเป็น หัวหน้าฝ่ายอี-คอมเมิร์ซของ บริษัท เซเว่นอีเลฟเว่น ได้ร่วมพัฒนาระบบอี-คอมเมิร์ซ ซึ่งได้ทำงานในบริษัทดังกล่าวเป็นเวลาร่วม 10 ปี อีกทั้งจากข้อมูลลูกค้าในประเทศไทยมีการใช้จ่ายผ่านออนไลน์ประมาณ 1% เท่านั้น ส่วนในภูมิภาคอาเซียนอยู่ที่ 2% เชื่อมั่นว่า ตลาดมีโอกาสจะเติบโตอีกมาก

“ผมเป็นผู้ริเริ่มบุกเบิกตลาดอี-คอมเมิร์ซในไทย และเป็นผู้ที่ได้เริ่มพัฒนาระบบออนไลน์ ทู ออฟไลน์ ลูกค้าสามารถสั่งซื้อสินค้าผ่านเว็บและมารับสินค้าที่ร้านเซเว่นอีเลฟเว่นได้เลย ทำให้ยอดขายผ่านระบบเติบโตมากขึ้น และมีผลให้ตลาดในภูมิภาคอาเซียนสนใจในระบบนี้อย่างมาก” ผรินทร์ กล่าว

สำหรับ นาสเกต ได้ออกแบบทำให้ผู้ใช้งานสามารถใช้บริการได้อย่างสะดวกและรวดเร็ว ไม่มีขั้นตอนยุ่งยาก โดยเครื่องสามารถเปิดให้บริการเมื่อมีการเสียบปลั๊กไฟเท่านั้น และไม่ต้องมีขั้นตอนลงทะเบียน ต่อมาคือ การเลือกนำเสนอกิจกรรมและบริการที่ลูกค้าเลือกใช้ประจำ อีกทั้งได้ออกแบบให้สามารถติดตั้งไว้ในคอนโดมิเนียม หรือในพื้นที่ที่ต้องการ ส่วนน้ำหนักเครื่องเบาอย่างมาก

ทีมก่อตั้งรวมประมาณ 8 คน และใช้เวลาในการพัฒนาประมาณ 2 ปี ใช้งบลงทุนพัฒนาต่อเนื่องจำนวนหลายล้านบาท โดยได้พัฒนาตั้งแต่รุ่นแรกของเครื่องมาจนถึงรุ่น 9 ในปัจจุบันแล้ว ซึ่งที่ผ่านมามีการพัฒนาทั้งฮาร์ดแวร์ ทดสอบระบบและสำรวจพฤติกรรมของลูกค้าอย่างใกล้ชิด มีการทดสอบการใช้งาน เพื่อให้ทุกคนสามารถใช้งานได้อย่างคล่องตัวและน่าใช้

“ในช่วงแรกๆ ที่พัฒนาคนอาจจะไม่รู้จัก ไม่ได้ลองใช้ แต่เรามีความมุ่งมั่นในการทำ เราค้นพบว่า เมื่อได้ทำแล้วมีความสนุกทุกครั้งจนถึงปัจจุบัน เราได้เห็นโอกาสเรื่อยๆ และมีโอกาสใหม่อย่างไม่หยุด และเมื่อผู้ใช้งานมีความเข้าใจกับเครื่องบริการ จึงเกิดความชอบสินค้า” ผรินทร์ กล่าว

 

ทั้งนี้ Nasket ได้เริ่มเปิดตัวครั้งแรก ในงานคอมพิวเท็กซ์ ของประเทศไต้หวัน ที่บริษัทได้ไปร่วมงาน เนื่องจากได้เข้าร่วมโครงการของ สำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติ (สวทช.) ในชื่อ สตาร์ทอัพเวาเชอร์ (Startup Voucher) ซึ่งลูกค้าในไต้หวันให้การตอบรับในระดับที่ดี ต่อมาได้ร่วมงาน สตาร์ทอัพไทยแลนด์ในช่วงที่ผ่านมา ทำให้เป็นที่รู้จักมากขึ้นทั้งตลาดในประเทศและต่างประเทศ รวมถึงมีพันธมิตรจากประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ที่ได้สนใจและติดต่อมาแล้ว

“คำแนะนำเบื้องต้นในการบริหารสตาร์ทอัพให้สามารถอยู่ได้ในตลาดได้นั้น จะต้องนำปัญหาที่มีอยู่ หรือปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นมาแก้ไขด้วยเทคโนโลยี เพราะบริษัทเห็นปัญหาของลูกค้าที่อาศัยในคอนโดมิเนียมที่ไม่ต้องการหิ้วถุงซื้อสินค้าจำนวนมาก ลูกค้าจะซื้อสินค้าไม่เยอะ แต่จะซื้อถี่มากขึ้น ต่อมาคือ การต้องหารูปแบบของธุรกิจ (โมเดล) ที่เหมาะสมให้ได้ ท้ายสุดคือ การต้องยึดทุกความต้องการของลูกค้าเพื่อนำมาพัฒนาต่อไป”ผรินทร์ กล่าว

เป้าหมายที่ได้วางแผนธุรกิจไว้ ภายใน 3 ปีข้างหน้า จะขยายตลาดให้ครอบคลุมกลุ่มลูกค้าในคอนโดมิเนียม และเป็นผู้นำในตลาดคอนโดมิเนียมในประเทศไทย ส่วนระยะยาวภายใน 5 ปีข้างหน้า วางเป้าหมายจะเป็นผู้นำในตลาดในต่างประเทศ ซึ่งสนใจขยายตลาดไปหลายประเทศ ทั้งประเทศที่มีประชากรจำนวนมากคือ ในเมืองโตเกียว ประเทศญี่ปุ่น หรือเมืองจาการ์ตา ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย

“ทุกอย่างที่บริษัทนำเสนอ ผ่านการคิดเพื่อนำเสนอสิ่งที่ดีสุด หรือซูเปอร์ท็อปส์ ตอบโจทย์ทุกความต้องการของกลุ่มเป้าหมาย ออกแบบให้ใช้งานง่าย หรือทำให้คุณแม่ใช้งานผ่านเครื่องได้อย่างสะดวกเช่นกัน” ผรินทร์ กล่าว พร้อมทิ้งท้ายว่า บริษัทพร้อมพัฒนาและสร้างสรรค์บริการ รวมถึงฮาร์ดแวร์ระบบ เพื่อให้ตรงกับทุกความต้องการของลูกค้าทุกคน

Five more are detained in Phang Nga rape case

Five suspecs in the alleged gang rape of a girl in Phang Nga were yesterday charged and detained by police.

A team of officers led by Pol Maj-General Bunthawee Toraksa, the Phang Nga provincial police commander, arrested the five men at Koh Rad Village. They are looking for another three suspects.

Police have charged all of them with raping a child of no more than 15 years old, gang-rape, detaining a child of no more than 15 for sexual harassment, using physical and verbal threats, and trespassing on another’s property during night time.

Three of men arrested yesterday were previously arrested and had been on bail. All five of those arrested deny the allegations against them.

Police say two of the suspects had traces of amphetamine in their urine.

A defence lawyer, Natharat Nukaew, said all suspects were being detained at the court for now and he had been informed that bail for each had been set at Bt460,000.

Natharat said such a sum of money was very large for the poor villagers and he would seek help from the Phang Nga Justice Office in raising bail.

Later, relatives of two suspects managed to provide sureties worth a combined Bt920,000 to bail out Chalerm Samin and Sucheep Sumen, while Natharat said relatives of other suspects hoped to raise the sureties they needed to secure their release next week.

Meanwhile, Somneuk Kongbutr, the stepfather of the 14-year-old allegedly raped, yesterday filed a defamation charge with police against three villagers who had accused of sexually violating his stepdaughter.

Somneuk said his relationship with the stepdaughter was entirely normal and that he and his wife had only recently found out about the multiple rapes.

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh – Tens of thousands of Rohingyas wait for food; govt, aid agencies yet to start adequate relief distribution

Shafiqa Begum was among the crowd chasing a minivan distributing food packets among starving Rohingyas near Tyingkhali Rohingya camp.

Holding her eight-day-old daughter tightly to her chest, she tried her best to push through the thick throng. But before she could go near it, the van started to move back as it ran out of food.

Shafiqa, 35, looked helpless. She abruptly stopped running and began to cry instead. By now, it was raining.

Touched by the scene, these correspondents stopped by and got Shafiqa into a three-wheeler to save the infant from rain.

“I have no food, nothing. If I don’t get to eat myself, how can I breastfeed my child?” she said.

Shafiqa and her four children, aged between seven years and eight days, left her village, Luthai, in northern Maungdaw in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, on August 29, a day after the baby was born.

“There were tortures everywhere. The houses were burned and people killed. Having no other way, I ran with other villagers,” she said.

She left behind her husband, who was working in the town. There is no knowing of his fate. After four days of walk through the jungles and rough hills, and finally the boat journey through the Naf river, she crossed the Whykkong border to enter Teknaf on September 3.

Forced to leave her homeland in Myanmar and no one to welcome her in Bangladesh, the penniless woman was crying for help by a roadside in Balukhali in Ukhia. A kind Samaritan came up to her. Upon hearing her story, he took her to his house and gave her food and shelter for the night.

The next morning, he gave her US$  0.606 so she could travel to Tyingkhali, where new arrivals have set up makeshift camps with plastic and bamboos. Accordingly, she travelled to the camp and got a space.

“But, I don’t have any money to buy bamboo or plastic to set up a tent,” she said.

In Dire Need of Food

Shafiqa is one of the thousands of Rohingyas who fled the violence after Myanmar security forces began a crackdown on Rohingya Muslims following an attack by Rohingya rebels on August 25.

In the 11 days since, some 1.23 lakh Rohingyas have arrived in Bangladesh, the UNHCR said in a statement yesterday.

This is in addition to an estimated 5 lakh unregistered Rohingyas Bangladesh is already hosting for years. Another 32,000 of them live in two registered camps.

Rights bodies reported village after village were burned down and Rohingya men, women and children killed since violence broke out on August 25, forcing them to cross the border to Bangladesh.

But as they reached Bangladesh, they found the situation not so welcoming.

Many are sleeping in the open and are in dire need of food and water after walking for days to reach safety, AFP said yesterday, quoting a report by UN’s main coordinator in Bangladesh.

While travelling through Balukhali, Kutupalang and Tyingkhali of Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar yesterday, these correspondents saw thousands of Rohingyas, mostly sickly women and children, sitting or standing in small groups beside the roads. Some were levelling land to set up makeshift camps with the authorities not yet deciding where to give shelter to the new arrivals or how to feed them.

Sanwara Begum, 35, and three of her sons are one such family found by the road in Kutupalang, begging for help. The woman, abandoned by her husband a few years ago at Doubletoli village in Maungdaw, saw her house burning last week and fled to Bangladesh.

She crossed Ghumdhum border in Naikkhangchhari and took shelter in unregistered Kutupalang camp on Friday. She had some  US$1.21, and she bought some biscuits. That was the food she had for her three children and herself. On two occasions, some people distributed a packet of khichuri.

“How can we survive with this food?” she said.

The situation is worse for children, who comprise almost 50 per cent of the Rohingya population.

Meanwhile, more and more Rohingya people are coming to the local health facilities, said Dr Romana Islam, medical officer of Ukhia Health Complex, which is supported by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

“Earlier, only around 80 patients would visit this health facility a day. Now, with the new arrivals of the Rohingyas, 140 patients are coming on average,” she toldThe Daily Star.

They mostly face cold, cough, measles, fever, skin disease and diarrhoea, she added.

Despite a huge refugee crisis since August 25, authorities have not yet begun any relief operations for the new arrivals. Local communities or some NGOs are providing some food in a scattered way.

Yesterday’s food distribution in the minivan near Tyingkhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia was an initiative by some locals.

Situation Very Shaky

Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Main Uddin termed the situation of the newly arrived Rohingyas very shaky.

The government has yet to decide on a concrete plan to provide food, treatment and shelter for the new arrivals, he told The Daily Star.

The World Food Programme, IOM and UN Refugee Agency handed over some food — flattened rice, molasses, high protein biscuits and dry cake — to the Cox’s Bazar district administration for the Rohingyas.

“From tomorrow (today), we will distribute the food among the Rohingyas under the supervision of the local administration,” said Main Uddin.

He, however, said the food they received was inadequate.

Contacted, Cox’s Bazar DC Ali Hossain said, “The government was considering humanitarian assistance for the new arrivals but there hasn’t been a final decision yet.”

Meanwhile, a high official of the Refugee Repatriation and Rehabilitation Commissioner (RRRC) in Cox’s Bazar said thousands of Rohingyas took shelter in the registered camps at Kutupalang of Ukhia and Nayapara in Teknaf. These two camps used to house only 32,000 Rohingyas. But now many more thousands have taken shelter there.

“These two camps are now overloaded,” he told The Daily Star

.The UNHCR and the RRRC have begun making a list of the newly arrived Rohingyas in the registered camps.

On the other hand, the IOM is preparing a list of Rohingyas who took shelter in the unregistered camps — one in Kutupalang, one in Balukhali and one in Tyingkhali of Ukhia, and Roikkhang and Leda camps in Teknaf, the RRRC official said.

“There is an urgent need for additional emergency shelters and land as more refugees arrive. Coordination is crucial with the authorities to ensure that life-saving assistance reaches those who need it most,” the UNHCR said in the statement.

A proposal of the join law review committee to replace all members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) as part of the organic law governing the rights organisation, has gained steam with a confirmation vote by the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Thursday.

The NLA earlier passed the law, which would totally reset the NHRC despite strong opposition by the rights-body members. The NHRC argued for a slower turnover of its members and of other organisations independent of direct government control. They argued for a consistent approach across organisations.

This led to creating a joint law review committee, as outlined in the nation’s new charter, to settle the difference of opinion about resetting the NHRC. Following the procedure, the committee’s proposal would again be submitted to the NLA for deliberation and endorsement again.

The NLA today stood firm on the committee’s proposal, which called for a total reset of the NHRC.

The NLA voted 177 in favour, with five abstentions.

The law will now move to the Cabinet for approval and recommendation for royal endorsement before it is put into effect.

Cartels face probe on anti-competitive practices

THE PHILIPPINE Competition Commission is investigating players in the manufacturing, public services and agriculture industry for possible anti-competitive practices.

The PCC may impose penalties on violators following the expiration of the transitory period to comply with the Philippine competition law.

The two-year transitory period for the companies to undo their anticompetitive practices ends on Tuesday this year.

That means the fines and penalties that could be imposed on them would then be in full force and effect, said PCC chair Arsenio Balisacan.

Fines for first-time offenders could be as high as 100 million pesos (Bt66 million). Besides imposing administrative penalties, the PCC could also file criminal complaints in the Justice Department.

The PCC had received 26 queries and complaints for anticompetitive conduct involving various industries, and three cases have advanced to the full administrative investigation stage, Balisacan said in a press briefing in Malacanang.

These three cases involve cartels and abuse of dominant position. Balisacan did not provide specific details to preserve the integrity of the probe.

Earlier reports said the PCC had found indications of anticompetitive agreements in the local cement industry, which was prompted by the filing of a complaint by a former trade department official.

Balisacan also said the implementation of the competition law was expected to benefit consumers as it would lead to lower prices of goods, more choices and better quality of products available to them.

The PCC was ready to go up even |against industry giants with vast resources, he said.

ผมมีลูกสองคน คือลูกชาย-น้องมิค และลูกสาวน้องเมย์ พอลูกเติบโตผมก็เปิดร้านใหม่ให้ลูกๆ ช่วยกันบริหารในสไตล์เพชรสไตล์ยุโรป หรือฮ่องกง เพชรทันสมัยใส่ในชีวิตประจำวันได้บ่อยขึ้น ตัวเรือนทองคำขาว หรือสีเงิน เลือกใช้เพชรเม็ดเล็กๆ หลายๆ เม็ดประกอบกันให้เป็นชิ้นใหญ่ ราคาจับต้องได้ง่ายขึ้น ก็มีลูกค้าวัยรุ่นเดินเข้าร้านได้มากขึ้น

Taiwanese firm packs an amazing amount of power and much more into this phone

HTC U Ultra is a powerful smartphone in sleek design, a clever interface, good sound system and very good quality camera as well as fast Internet connection.

The U Ultra is the latest flagship smartphone from the Taiwanese IT giant that is available in Thailand. Although HTC announced its latest flagship smartphone in Taiwan on May 16, U11, it is not yet available in Thailand.

The U Ultra is available in Thailand in two elegant colours – Brilliant Black and Sapphire Blue. The Brilliant Black I had my hands on looked really sleek – both front and back look great in shiny black when the display is off.

 

The U Ultra has a beautifully 3D contoured, liquid-like surface. It has a lustrous, symmetrical, curved-glass construction that reflects light beautifully with colour from vaporous minerals layered to add depth and brilliance from every angle. The polished surface bends and blends seamlessly into the side of the phone allowing it to nestle perfectly in your hand.

The U Ultra also comes in a strong metal unibody that is only 7.99 mm thin and it weighs about 170 grams.

The smartphone is really powerful thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor running at 2.15 GHz and it comes with a hefty 4 gigabytes of working memory or RAM. It comes with 64 GB of internal storage, which is expandable with a microSD card of up to 2 terabytes. But the microSD card will occupy the second nano SIM slot.

It runs on Google’s Android 7.0 operating system with HTC Sense user interface on top of it.

Yes, the U Ultra has dual nano SIM slots and easy-to-use function for selecting which SIM will be used for 4G data connection. The other SIM will use a 3G/2G network. When making phone calls, you can select manually which SIM to use.

During the test, I found that the U Ultra had good performance. Apps and touch screen were responsive. Games ran fast and smoothly. Video clips also played smoothly. Moreover, the U Ultra can play high-resolution audio files of FLAC 24bit/192kHz format well.

 

I used AnTuTu Benchmark v6.2.7 to benchmark its performance and found that it scored 142,505 points. According to AnTuTu, the top model is iPhone 7 Plus with 181,421 points.

This HTC flagship phone has a very fast 4G connection. I tested it on TrueMove H’s 4G LTE network and I was impressed by the connection speed. Apps were downloaded very fast and my snapshots were backed up to my Google Photos cloud storage in no time.

 

I used Ookla Speedtest app to measure the connection speed and found that it achieved the fastest download speed of 118.09 Mbps and upload speed of 34.15 Mbps.

The U Ultra has 5.7-inch Quad HD super LCD 5 display with 2560×1440 pixels. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The high resolution and colourful display make it very good for viewing photos and watching video clips.

And HTC’s interface makes good use of the large display with its Dual Display function.

 

The Dual Display allocates a tiny fraction on the top of display with a resolution of 160×1040 pixels as a secondary display to give you fast, convenient access to the things you use the most, including your favourite contracts, app shortcuts, event notifications and other things.

Even when the main display is off, the secondary display can give you information like Facebook alerts. You simply lift the phone when the main display is off or double-tap the secondary display to turn it on.

You can swipe left or right to navigate the secondary display to get the information you want, like your favourite contracts, app shortcuts, weather information and Music app’s playing control. You can select which apps will be allowed to display alerts on the secondary display and it is easy to add favourite contracts and app shortcuts to the secondary display.

 

The U Ultra has good quality main camera with 12 megapixel UltraPixel sensor. The main camera’s HTC UltraPixel 2 image sensor has larger pixel size than most image sensors used in mobile phones. The UltraPixel 2’s pixel is 1.55 microns large, allowing each pixel to capture more light, resulting in better details and more vivid colours.

Moreover, the main camera’s sapphire lens is very bright with f/1.8 aperture so the main camera has good performance in low-light environment.

The main camera has fast auto-focusing thanks to its dual focusing technologies – laser focus and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF).

 

Several shooting modes are available including Pro, Photo, Zoe camera, and Panorama. The Photo is like the auto mode that the camera will set everything for you while the Pro will allow you to adjust several shooting parameters, including white balance, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, and focus types. The Pro mode can also remain an auto mode if you leave all parameters to the default “auto” options.

Within the Pro mode, you can select from three pre-set scenes – Nightscape, Fast-moving and Close-up. The Nightscape is very handy for capturing a city skyline at night or street with city lights. I enjoyed using this mode to capture beautiful lights at night.

The Zoe camera mode is fun to use as it will capture three seconds of HD video along with the photo.

The main camera is also capable of recording slow motion video at resolution of 720p at the rate of 120 frames per second. Moreover, the main camera can record 4K video with 3D Audio or Hi-Res audio stereo recording.

 

If you love taking selfie shots, you will be happy that the front-facing camera of the U Ultra has 16 megapixels. Moreover, when using the front camera, you can select between 16MP resolution and UltraPixel. The UltraPixel option is good for taking selfie shots in dark environments because the UltraPixel mode is four times more sensitive to light than the standard mode.

During the test, I found that U Ultra captured beautiful shots with good exposures, good details and colours with the main camera. The front camera also functioned very well and there is also Live Makeup function that allows you to smooth your skin in real time before taking a shot.

The U Ultra has a good sound system. It does not come with a standard 3.5mm stereo jack but it provides a pair of HTC USonic Adaptive Earphones which connect to U Ultra’s USB Type-C port.

 

The earphones and U Ultra use HTC Usonic audio platform to analyse your inner ear and automatically adapts the sound profile to optimise your listening experience.

During the test, I found that the U Ultra played good quality music via the USonic earphones with clarity, good details of musical instrument and powerful bass.

The U Ultra is also good for sharing music with friends like a portable speaker system thanks to HTC BoomSound feature that uses Hi-Fi edition speakers to deliver loud and clear music.

Moreover, the U Ultra comes with four omnidirectional mics for capturing positional sound and recording 360-degree immersive audio when you shoot a video.

The U Ultra comes with fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi connection and HTC Connect features that allows you to wirelessly stream music or video from your phone to your speakers or TV by just swiping up the screen with three fingers.

 

HTC Connect supports AirPlay speakers or Apple TV, Backfire compliant multi-room speakers, multi-room speakers that support Qualcomm AllPlay smart media platform, DLNA compatible speakers and TV, Miracast compatible display devices, and Chromecast compatible display devices.

The smartphone also comes with HTC Sense Companion that will learn from your activities and it also has built-in voice recognition. You can give voice commands to HTC Sense Companion to make a phone call and send messages, for example.

Another nice feature of U Ultra is that it has a fingerprint scanner built into the home button for unlocking your phone to add more security. The fingerprint scanner has 360-degree readability, so you can touch a recorded finger at any angle to the scanner to turn on the screen or unlock the smartphone.

The U Ultra has a good battery life with a 3,000 mAh built-in battery that allowed me to comfortably survive a day. The battery supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology and it also comes with Power saving mode and Extreme power saving mode in case of emergency.

U Ultra also comes with Boost+ app to help extend battery life. The app can help you optimise the phone’s performance by allocating resources, removing junk files, stopping irregular app activities and uninstalling the apps you don’t use.

HTC U Ultra has a suggested retail price of Bt22,490.

VN govt to divest from two major breweries

THE VIETNAMESE government will divest from two major breweries in the country through the open tender method, a Trade Ministry official said.

Bui Truong Thang, deputy director of the Light Industry Department under the Ministry of Investment and Trade (MoIT), said at a press conference on Friday that the Saigon Beer, Alcohol and Beverage Corporation (Sabeco) and the Hanoi Beer Alcohol and Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (Habeco) will submit their equitisation plans by the end of this month.

The state holds 89.59 per cent and 82 per cent stakes in Sabeco and Habeco, respectively. Together, the two beer makers account for about 60 per cent of the domestic market. Sabeco dominates with 40 per cent.

Thang also said that the MoIT has already submitted to the government divestment and equitisation plans for Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN), and Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem).

He said a similar plan for Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) would be submitted this month.

Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said he has ordered close supervision of the equitisation process in order to avoid asset losses.

Hai also said that disciplinary action was likely to be taken against MoIT deputy minister Ho Thi Kim Thoa, with the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission viewing her reported wrongdoings as serious.

Thoa is alleged to have committed several violations during her tenure as Communist Party comimittee secretary and director of the Dien Quang Lamp Company, including violations of regulations on equitisation, land management and share transfer. The ministry will announce the disciplinary action publicly when it is taken, Hai said.

According to the inspection commission, as party committee secretary and director of Dien Quang Lamp Company from January 2004 to May 2010, Thoa violated regulations on business equitisation and procedures, and in relation to 6.7 billion dong (about Bt9.9 million) the company had received as an interest rate exemption.
