นับแต่วันนี้เป็นต้นไป กรมอุตุนิยมวิทยา พยากรณ์อากาศว่าภาคเหนือและอีสานอุณหภูมิจะลดลงราว 1-3 องศาเซลเซียสนั้น หมายความว่าอากาศจะเย็นลงหรือเข้าสู่ปลายฝนต้นหนาวแล้ว

แต่ขณะเดียวกันทะเลอันดามันและอ่าวไทยจะมีคลื่นสูง 2 เมตร และควรหลีกเลี่ยงการเดินเรือ

ประชาชนในบริเวณทางภาคเหนือ ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ภาคตะวันออก ภาคกลาง รวมทั้งกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล ระมัดระวังอันตรายจากฝนฟ้าคะนอง และลมกระโชกแรงที่จะเกิดขึ้น

จากการติดตามข่าวจากน้ำท่วมโดยเฉพาะที่อุบลราชธานี ณ เวลานี้ ปริมาณน้ำได้ลดลงมากแล้วและเหลือซากแห่งความสูญเสียปรักหักพัง บ้านเรือนสิ่งปลูกสร้างต่างๆ รวมไปถึงถนนหนทางและสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกต่างๆ ที่ประชาชนจะต้องเดือดร้อนไปอีกแรมเดือน

นายกรัฐมนตรี ‘พล.อ.ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา’ และคณะชุดใหม่ที่ได้ลงพื้นที่เพื่อฟื้นฟูให้สู่สภาพเดิมหรือดีกว่าเดิม ซึ่งต่อไปนี้หากคำสั่งของหัวหน้ารัฐบาลคือนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีกระทรวงต่างๆ ไม่หายไปกับสายน้ำแล้ว ประชาชนคนไทยจะได้รับการเยียวยาดูแลทุกครัวเรือน

สิ่งที่จะฝากไว้ก็เรื่องการบริหารจัดการน้ำแบบยั่งยืน ซึ่งพูดกันมานานแต่ไม่มีอะไรเกิดขึ้นรวมถึงภัยแล้งที่มีมาทุกปีในทุกภาคของประเทศไทย

ถึงเวลาแล้วที่จะทำให้ภัยแล้ง-น้ำท่วม หมดไปจากประเทศไทยเสียที

ไม่งั้นเราก็ต้องบริจาครินน้ำใจช่วยเหลือกันเรื่อยไปไม่จบสิ้น

 บอลโลกเจอคู่แข่ง
ผมเห็นคุณคัดค้านเรื่องการขอเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดบอลชิงแชมป์โลก 2034 หรืออีก 15 ปี ข้างหน้าแล้วขอร่วมแสดงความคิดเห็นมาทางจดหมายนี้ หลังจากได้ตามข่าวการประชุมรัฐมนตรีกีฬาประเทศเอเซียน

เรียนให้ทราบตามตรงว่าเราเจองานช้างหรือศึกหนักเป็นคู่แข่งที่จะเสนอตัวเสียแล้วครับ และอยากเตือนมาเพราะไทยได้รับเลือกให้เป็นหัวหอก-หัวขบวน ขอเป็นเจ้าภาพร่วม ซึ่งเราก็โอเคไฟเขียวไปแล้วด้วย

ที่เขียนแจ้งมานี้ไม่ใช่จะให้หมดกำลังใจ แต่ด้วยความปรารถนาดีเพราะอุปสรรคมีมากมายจะได้เตรียมรับมือ

กลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนที่จะขอเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดบอลโลก 2034 ร่วม มีไทย-มาเลเซีย-สิงคโปร์-เวียดนาม และอินโดนีเซีย ซึ่งจะต้องมีข้อรายละเอียดตกลงกันมากหลายประเด็น

ลองมาดูประเทศที่ขอเป็นเจ้าภาพอีก เช่น จีน-ซิมบับเว-ไนจีเรีย-ออสเตรเลีย กับ นิวซีแลนด์, ญี่ปุ่น และเกาหลีใต้ ซึ่งแต่ละประเทศพร้อมทั้งเงินทอง, อิทธิพลการเมืองและกำลังภายนอกภายในทั้งนั้น

จึงขอให้เตรียมพร้อมสำหรับไทย หัวหอกที่จะขอจัดบอลโลก 2034 และยืนยันว่าจะไม่สะดวกเหมือนดังที่ฝันหวาน

ขอบคุณสำหรับข้อมูลทางจดหมายที่แจ้งมา ผมจึงขอเป็นสื่อกลางแจ้งให้ทราบและเชื่อว่าในการประชุมทีมงานที่มาเลเซียเร็วๆ นี้ จะต้องพูดกันหลายประเด็นและดูรายชื่อประเทศแล้วเป็นศึกหนักอย่างที่คุณแจ้งมา

งบประมาณในการเตรียมการเป็นเจ้าภาพนี้ระดับพันล้านบาท หรือหลายพันล้านบาท หรือสนามบอล หรือทีมที่จะใช้รองรับการเป็นเจ้าภาพนี้ก็ไม่ใช่น้อยต้องใช้เงินอีกเป็นหมื่นล้านบาท

จึงขอเรียนให้ทราบเพื่อจะได้เตรียมการให้ถูกต้องและเวลานี้ขอยกให้ ‘จีน’ เป็นเต็ง 1 ที่จะได้จัดเพราะ ‘สี จิ้นผิง’ ประธานาธิบดีจีนจะอยู่ในอำนาจอีกนานและเป็นมหาอำนาจมีความแข็งแกร่งทุกอย่าง

แล้วที่สำคัญประธานาธิบดีจีนผู้นี้โปรดปรานฟุตบอลมากและไม่ค่อยชอบกอล์ฟเพราะเห็นว่าทำลายธรรมชาติ

มีคนพูดกันว่ายกเว้นดาวกับเดือนเท่านั้นที่จีนจัดการให้ไม่ได้

แล้วแค่เจ้าภาพบอลโลก 2034-สบายมาก อย่าห่วง!

 คนบวชน้อยลงจริงหรือไม่?
 แต่พระ-เณร ยังมีกว่า 3 แสน
ผมอยากเป็นสื่อกลางแจ้งให้ทราบว่าเวลานี้พระเณรบวชอยู่ในผ้าเหลืองกว่า 3 แสนรูป ซึ่งนับว่ามากจริงๆ เมื่อเทียบกับอัตราส่วนคนไทยของเรา

ที่แจ้งมานี้เพราะได้ข่าวจากสำนักงานพุทธศาสนาฯ ว่าคนไทยบวชน้อยลงซึ่งนับเฉพาะบวช 1 พรรษาขึ้นไป

อยากจะให้พระเณรที่ศรัทธาในพุทธศาสนาบวชและมีการตรวจสอบประวัติอย่างเข้มข้น

ประเภทบวชเพื่อผลประโยชน์หรือหนีหนี้ หนีคดี ฯลฯ อย่าให้มีอีก พระพุทธศาสนาจะได้เป็นที่ศรัทธาตลอดไป

หมอลำคาร์นิวุ่น วุ่นทุกปี

หมอลำคาร์นิวุ่น วุ่นทุกปี หมอลำคาร์นิวุ่น วุ่นทุกปีโดย… สุมาลี สุวรรณกร ภาพโดย… จิติมา จันพรม

เรื่องวุ่นวายของ “หมอลำคาร์นิวัล” ที่จัดมา 3 ปี ตั้งแต่ปี 2560 จนถึงปี 2562 ดูเหมือนจะอยู่ในความสนใจของคนขอนแก่นอย่างยิ่ง เพราะจัดปีไหนก็มีปัญหาตลอด ถูกวิจารณ์ตลอด โดยเฉพาะปีล่าสุดที่งบประมาณในการจัดบานเบอะทะลุ 27.4 ล้าน ทั้งๆ ที่หลายคนมองสเกลงานแล้วน่าจะไม่เกิน 10 ล้านด้วยซ้ำ

ปี 2560 ที่จัดเป็นปีแรก เจ้าภาพจัดคือสำนักงานการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย ที่กรุงเทพฯ มาจัด และเชิญหลายหน่วยงานในพื้นที่เข้าร่วมหารือ ประชุม ดำเนินการ แต่ก็ได้ยินเสียงบ่นๆ ว่าคนในพื้นที่ หน่วยงานในพื้นที่มีส่วนร่วมค่อนข้างน้อยเพราะทุกอย่างอยู่ในการดูแลของออร์แกไนซ์ทั้งหมด งบประมาณการจัดในปีนั้นอยู่ที่ 6 ล้านบาท มีการแต่งชุดหมอลำเดินตามถนน เลียนแบบงานคาร์นิวัลในเมืองนอก มีดาราดังในเพลานั้นคือ “เคน ภูภูมิ” ซึ่งกำลังดังจากละครเรื่อง “นาคี” มาร่วมโชว์ตัวในขบวนแห่ด้วย และมีศิลปินแห่งชาติ คุณแม่ฉวีวรรณ ดำเนิน คุณพ่อป.ฉลาดน้อย ส่งเสริม และคุณแม่บานเย็น รากแก่น มาขึ้นรถแห่ไปตามถนนรวมถึงมีการแสดงหมอลำเวทีใหญ่ริมบึงแก่นนคร มีการยกอ้อ ยอครู รัฐมนตรีบินมาเปิดงาน แต่น่าเสียดายที่ปีนั้นฝนกระหน่ำแทบไม่มีชิ้นดี จนมีเสียงพูดว่า “ผิดครู” เพราะชุดหมอลำเป็นชุดมีคุณค่า คือตัวแทนศิลปวัฒนธรรม ภูมิปัญญาของบรรพบุรุษ ไม่ควรเอามาใส่แล้วเดินตามท้องถนนแบบนี้ เลยทำให้ฝนตกหนัก

ปีที่ 2 ได้ยินว่างบประมาณก็เท่าเดิม เพิ่มเติมคือมีปัญหากันระหว่างออร์แกไนซ์กับคนที่รับงานต่อในพื้นที่ไม่จ่ายเงินกันจนขึ้นโรงขึ้นศาล งานนี้การมีส่วนร่วมของคนในพื้นที่ก็ยังน้อยเหมือนเดิม มีหน้าที่แค่เอาคนไปร่วมงานและร่วมชมเท่านั้น และการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทยก็เป็นเจ้าภาพเช่นเคย

แต่พอปีที่ 3 ดูเหมือนว่าเป็นที่จับตามองอย่างมากเพราะปีนี้โอนการทำงานมาให้หน่วยงานในท้องถิ่นอย่างสำนักงานวัฒนธรรมจังหวัด และถูกจับตาเพราะมีการตั้งบประมาณเอาไว้สูงลิ่วถึง 28 ล้านบาท และมีการยื่นซองกันราคาต่ำสุดอยู่ที่ 27.4 ล้านบาท โดยระบุว่างบประมาณสูงเพราะมีการตั้งทีโออาร์ เอาไว้ตามสเปกที่สูงมาก โดยเฉพาะจะต้องมีคนมาเดินในขบวนถึง 2,000 คน งานจัด 3 วันและมีการประกวดหมอลำด้วย ซึ่งหากมองตามทีโออาร์ที่เขียนเอาไว้ค่อนข้างต้องใช้เงินเยอะและยังระบุอีกว่า หมอลำที่มาแสดงนั้นจะต้องเป็นคณะดังๆ ระดับท็อปทรีของประเทศเท่านั้น

ตอนแรกได้อ่านทีโออาร์ก็ตกใจเพราะสิ่งที่ระบุเอาไว้ต้องใช้งบประมาณเยอะจริงๆ แต่พอมาเห็นสเกลของงานที่ออกมาในวันจริงคือ 6-8 กันยายนที่ผ่านมาแล้วทำให้หลายคนตั้งคำถามว่า “ถึงเหรอ” หมายถึงงบประมาณที่ต้องใช้มันจะถึง 27.4 ล้านเลยหรือ

แต่สิ่งที่เหมือนกันของทุกครั้งคือออร์แกไนซ์ที่มารับงานเป็นคนที่ไม่เคยทำงานหมอลำ ไม่มีความรู้ด้านศิลปวัฒนธรรมอีสาน ไม่รู้จักหมอลำมีใคร อะไรอย่างไรบ้าง แต่โชคดีตรงที่มีสำนักงานวัฒนธรรมจังหวัดเป็นที่ปรึกษา และมีพ่อครูแม่ครูรุ่นศิลปินแห่งชาติที่ถูกใส่ชื่อเป็นคณะทำงานมาช่วยแนะนำด้วย
พอวันจัดงานเมื่องบประมาณเยอะแต่การจัดงานออกมาไม่ได้หรูหราเหมือนที่ใช้งบประมาณไปทำให้มีกระแสโจมตีจากคนเมืองขอนแก่น กระแสโซเชียล และอื่นๆ อีกมากมาย พอซักไปซักมา ถามไปถามมาก็มีการโยนกันว่า “ปีนี้ที่ใช้งบประมาณเยอะเพราะงบประมาณไปอยู่ในส่วนของการจัดประกวดหมอลำ ซึ่งใช้งบประมาณไปมากถึง 17 ล้านบาท” เมื่อพูดออกมาแบบนี้ทำให้คนจับจ้องไปที่คณะกรรมการจัดประกวดหมอลำ ซึ่งมีระดับพ่อครูแม่ครูทั้งนั้น หลายคนเคลือบแคลงสงสัยว่าท่านเหล่านี้ได้รับเงินค่าตัวเยอะแน่นอน ทั้งค่าตอบแทนในการเป็นกรรมการตัดสินและค่าตัวในการดำเนินการต่างๆ แต่พอไปฟังจากปากของคนที่อยู่ในกระบวนการแล้ว มันโอละพ่อ ไม่ได้เยอะอย่างที่คิดเลย

โดยเฉพาะการได้ฟังการบอกเล่าของศิลปินระดับครูเรื่องการจัดประกวดหมอลำที่ถูกโยนกลองว่าใช้งบประมาณมากที่สุดแล้วก็อยากจะร้องไห้ สงสารพ่อครูแม่ครูที่ถูกดึงตัวมาลำบากในการจัดงานครั้งนี้ เพราะระดับศิลปินแห่งชาติได้ค่าตัวในการเป็นกรรมการประกวดและดูแลการจัดประกวดทั้งหมดเพียงคนละ 10,000 บาทต่อวัน ส่วนคนอื่นๆ อีก 5 คน ได้ค่าตัวคนละ 6,000 บาทต่อวัน โดยไม่มีค่าที่พัก ไม่มีค่าเดินทาง แต่ไม่ได้ถามว่ามีข้าวเลี้ยงไหม

การจัดประกวดหมอลำจัดที่ห้างสรรพสินค้าใหญ่เมืองขอนแก่น 2 วัน หากคิดค่าเช่าสถานที่ 2 วันไม่น่าจะเกินวันละ 150,000 บาท อีก 2 วันเป็นการชิงชนะเลิศมาจัดที่หน้าศาลากลางจังหวัดขอนแก่น ซึ่งในวันที่ 7-8 กันยายน มีการตั้งโดม 2 ตัว โดมตัวแรกใช้แสดงหมอลำของคณะหมอลำชื่อดังของอีสานตามทีโออาร์ที่แจ้งไป และอีกโดมหนึ่งใช้ประกวดหมอลำ ซึ่งดูเงินรางวัลแล้วก็พอสมน้ำสมเนื้อ รวมสองประเภททั้งระดับประชาชนทั่วไปและระดับนักเรียนนักศึกษา 2 รางวัลรวมเงินอยู่ที่ประมาณ 1 ล้านบาท และแต่ละคณะที่มาประกวดมีค่าตอบแทน ค่าเดินทาง ค่าเสื้อผ้าต่างๆ ให้อีกคณะละ 10,000 บาท โดยมีข้อแม้ว่าแต่ละคณะจะต้องมีสมาชิกไม่ต่ำกว่า 20 คน ข้อกำหนดนี้เองทำให้มีคนมาสมัครน้อย เพราะเวลากระชั้นถึงขั้นต้องไปเกณฑ์กันมา บางคณะมีสมาชิกแค่ไม่ถึง 10 คนก็ต้องไปเรียกเพื่อนมาช่วยอยู่ในคณะเพื่อให้เข้าเกณฑ์และสามารถสมัครได้

ผลการประกวดออกมาก็เป็นที่น่าพอใจรวมถึงหลังการประกวดมีการกำหนดให้ไปโรดโชว์เพื่อโชว์ตัวในสถานที่ต่างๆ ด้วย แต่ทั้งหมดทั้งมวลหากมีการสรุปยอดค่าใช้จ่ายในการประกวดหมอลำรวมการโรดโชว์แล้วผู้ที่นั่งอยู่ในที่นั้นด้วยบอกว่าไม่น่าจะเกิน 5 ล้านบาท ซึ่งห่างไกลกับตัวเลข 17 ล้านบาทที่ว่ามากโข
นอกจากนั้นเรื่องคณะหมอลำระดับแถวหน้าของเมืองไทยที่ระบุเอาไว้ในทีโออาร์นั้นเอาเข้าจริงๆ หากว่ากันราคาจ้างกันทั่วไปน่าจะอยู่ที่วงละไม่ต่ำกว่า 3-4 แสน มีประมาณ 6 คณะ แต่พอมาโชว์จริงๆ กลับพบว่าไม่ได้มาเต็มวง แถมมีแต่ตัวเอกที่มากับลูกทีมอีกไม่ถึง 20 คน อีกทั้งแต่ละคืนวงดังๆ โชว์แค่วงละ 2 ชั่วโมง เพราะฉะนั้นมั่นใจได้เลยว่าค่าจ้างคงไม่ถึงวงละ 3-4 แสนตามราคาที่ตั้งเอาไว้แน่นอน

แต่ที่น่าอนาถใจที่สุดในส่วนของพิธียกอ้อยอครูซึ่งเป็นพิธีสำคัญที่สุดในการจัดงาน กลับมีงบประมาณให้แค่ 50,000 บาท และผลักภาระให้คุณพ่อคุณแม่ศิลปินแห่งชาติท่านเป็นคนดำเนินการ แถมมีการต่อรองงบประมาณอีกมากมาย เล่นเอางานนี้คนร่วมทำงานเหนื่อยใจเป็นที่สุดแทบอยากจะลุกหนี แต่เพราะอยากอนุรักษ์สืบสานเรื่องดีๆ เอาไว้ถึงได้ก้มหน้าทำงานให้ แม้จะถูกสายตาสงสัยของหลายคนจับจ้องก็ตาม
ถึงวันนี้แม้ยังไม่มีคำชี้แจงอะไรออกมาอย่างแจ่มชัดแต่ก็ทำให้สังคมเฝ้าจับตามองโอกาสของเมืองขอนแก่นที่ได้รับงานดีๆ เข้ามา หลายคนก็มองว่าเป็นเรื่องดีที่ให้ขอนแก่นเป็นศูนย์กลางของศิลปวัฒนธรรม แต่พอเอาเข้าใจจริงๆ การทำงานที่ต้องผ่านออร์แกไนซ์และบริษัทรับจ้างจัดงาน เลยทำให้ขาดความร่วมมือร่วมใจของคนในพื้นที่ งานดีแต่มีส่วนร่วมน้อย ความอินกับงานของหน่วยงานร่วมจัดก็น้อย แถมมีการตั้งตารอว่าปีหน้าจะมีการจัดอีกหรือไม่ และปีหน้างบประมาณจะทะลุหลักกี่ล้านเรื่องนี้คงต้องรอคอยคำตอบเพราะเราๆ ท่านๆ คงทำได้แค่จับตาดูเท่านั้น

Couples can dine at either of the hotel’s two restaurants, or have an intimate table for two set up beside the pool, on the lawn in the tropically landscaped grounds, in the Old Teak House, or on the balcony in the privacy of their suite. Two glasses of special Valentine’s Day cocktail are included with the meal and guests can select additional wine or champagne to accompany their meal at an additional cost. For an added sense of dramatic flair and romance, you can have your champagne sabered by the sword at your table.

Your romantic evening begins with the chef’s innovative appetizer “’Blowtorched Tiger Prawns and Salmon’ Heart” of baby cos lettuce, semi-dried tomatoes with spicy Thai chilli vinaigrette. This is followed by “Broccoli and Green Curry Veloute” in coconut milk topped with deep-fried basil and crispy shallots, or “Mushroom Soup with Truffle Oil” with local shitake and button mushrooms.

Next is a “Rocket Salad”, lightly tossed with olive oil, apple, cucumber ribbon and orange segments. Continue with a delicious pasta of “Truffle Capellini” — capellini in truffle cream sauce and crispy Parma ham.

For mains there are three choices: roasted chicken breast with assorted vegetables, sweet pont neuf potatoes and jus; roasted veal angus, pan-roasted with baby vegetables, whipped potatoes and port wine beef jus; or pan seared tuna loin with lemon-whipped potatoes and baby carrots served with warm tomato-caper-basil vinaigrette.

Finally, melt your loved one’s heart with K Mam’s “Heavenly Peach Pie”, served with vanilla ice-cream. Throughout the evening, for those dining in the Old Teak House and grounds, the resident pianist and guest violinist will serenade you with romantic melodies.

The Valentine’s Day package from February 14-16 for two includes private round-trip limousine airport transfers; two nights in a luxurious Rajah Brook Suite; welcome fruit basket; daily breakfast; six-course Michelin Guide tasting menu plus two glasses of special cocktail.

Lao Liang and Changkap islands sit on the opposing side of Trang province in southern Thailand, known for the abundance of anemones, gorgonians, and soft corals.

Both islands, in the southern part of the sea off Trang and close to Satun province, are under the supervision of the Mu Ko Phetra National Park.

Many tourists visit the islands during the New Year period and the Songkran festival.

Preuk Ubonkerd, manager of Modtanoy Resort in Trang, said the islands were popular with tourists, especially Lao Liang which consists of Lao Liang Pi (the big one) and ‘Lao Liang Nong’ (the small one).

An major attraction of Lao Liang is its colorful anemones and soft corals under the sea.

“There are about ten days in a month when the sea is safe for diving” he added.

The ‘Changkap’ island is small, shaped like a pile of rocks in the middle of sea. It is located near ‘Phetra’ island, a attractive diving site with a large population of gorgonians in shallow water.

“In one month, there are about eight or ten days when conditions are right for diving activities at Changkap island, However, diving time is limited to two hours at the most as strong currents make it dangerous for divers in shallow water” he said.

The Kingdom’s promising star proved more solid in his all round game as he wrapped up the match in 43 minutes to reach his first ever semi-final on a Super 300 tournament.

“I’m a bit under pressure playing against a senior player in the national team. I was playing quite well,” said the 18-year-old Thai, the only player in the world to win three straight World Junior Championships title.

“It’s great to win and move forwards to the next round. Keep winning is always a good thing as I still have to improve more. In order to do that, I have to move past tough foreign players,” added Kunlavut who will carry the local lone hope into the Saturday’s actions. He will face Kenta Nishimoto of Japan, a 21-10 22-20 winner over Zhao Jun Peng of China.

While Kunlavut is still in the tournament, Ratchanon Intanon, the country’s ace in women’s singles was shown the exit by former Thailand Open champion Aya Ohori of Japan 16-21 21-17 21-10.

“Everything was OK until in the middle of the second game. I started missing my shots and didn’t play the way I should have to,” said Ratchanok, winner in Indonesia last week.

Nakhon Ratchasima – John Catlin seized a one-shot advantage at the halfway stage of the Boonchu Ruangkit Championship after the American fired a nine-under-par 62 on Friday.

Catlin, who started the day in tied fourth with a 63, overtook overnight Thai leader Suradit Yongcharoenchai for the lead after posting a blemish free scorecard that included seven birdies and an eagle for a second round total of 17-under-par 125.

Sadom Kaewkanjana of Thailand rose to third courtesy of his brilliant 61, while Thai veteran Thongchai Jaidee joined compatriot Panuphol Pittayarat after firing a 61 to sit tied-fourth along with Weerachai Yuanyang and Malcolm Kokocinski of Sweden.

“My game today was solid from the tee to the greens. I have been hitting a lot of fairways and my wedge game has been good,” said Catlin, who was one of nine golfers to fire an eagle on the par-five 14th hole.

“I have been hitting it close to the pin and a couple of par-5s. If you play your holes right you stand a good chance to land an eagle.”

Catlin, who was victorious in Thailand in November, started off brightly with a birdie, before finding another three to close out the front nine.

The world number 195 managed another three birdies after the turn, and coupled with the eagle, was enough to bump him to top spot.

Suradit, who could only manage a 66 after his impressive 60 in the first round, admitted his game was a little off.

“Everything went right for me yesterday (Thursday), but today I was just not getting enough balls in the hole. I have to work on my putting in the next two rounds. It’s all about keeping focus,” said Suradit.

A total of 50 golfers made the cut at the season opening Asian Development Tour event.

Sweden’s Oscar Zetterwall and Japanese Ryuichi Oiwa, who both won titles on the ADT circuit last year, were among some of the big names to miss the cut.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will build an infrastructure “region” in Jakarta by the end of next year or early 2022 in the biggest investment in Indonesia’s the information and technology sector, a high-ranking official has said.

Jakarta will also have three Availability Zones consisting of several interconnected data centers, according to the Industry Ministry.

An AWS region is a physical location where its data centers are clustered. Each region consists of multiple, isolated and physically separate Availability Zones within an area.

An Availability Zone is one or more discrete data centers with redundant power, networking and connectivity in an AWS region, according to the company’s website.

“This investment can boost Indonesia to become a strategic digital hub,” Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang said after a meeting with AWS global public policy vice president Michael Punke during the 2020 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, as quoted in a statement on Thursday.

The development of an ASW region, he added, could also accelerate the transformation of the nation’s small and medium companies as well as big corporations in various sectors toward industry 4.0.

“The AWS region in Indonesia will certainly support the startup ecosystem so it can grow rapidly,” Agus added. “It can also help create more jobs and companies in the technology sector.”

The value of the country’s digital economy was projected to reach US$40 billion in 2019, up from $27 billion a year before, according to the annual e-Conomy SEA 2019 report by technology giant Google, Singaporean holding company Temasek and management consulting firm Bain & Company. The value is expected to triple to $130 billion by 2025.

The ministry’s metal, machinery, transportation and electronics director general, Harjanto, said that AWS’ investment was “the biggest investment realization in the ICT [information and communication technology] sector to date,” although he did not disclose the figure.

AWS is a subsidiary of United States-based technology company Amazon that offers analytics technology, artificial intelligent, Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning services, among other services.

Jakarta will join Hong Kong, Beijing and Ningxia in China, Mumbai in India, Seoul in South Korea, Singapore, Tokyo in Japan and Sydney in Australia as AWS regions in the Asia-Pacific. There are 14 other regions across the globe.

The government will also partner with AWS to provide cloud computing training for “hundreds of thousands of Indonesians” by 2025.

Indonesia has been looking to secure investments from multinational corporations at the WEF, such as Singaporean ride-hailing giant Grab, Japanese financial services firm Mizuho, state-owned Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Chinese dairy giant Yili Group, to boost the country’s economic growth.

Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) data showed that overall realized investment totaled Rp 601.3 trillion ($44 billion), a 12.3 percent increase year-on-year (yoy), from January to September 2019.

While domestic investment grew 17.3 percent to Rp 283.5 trillion, foreign direct investment (FDI) rose 8.2 percent yoy to Rp 317.8 trillion.

GH Bank budgets Bt100 bn for new loan packages

Government Housing Bank (GH Bank) has budgeted Bt100 billion for a new mortgage campaign, according to its statement released on Friday (January 24).

The bank president Chatchai Sirilai said the new packages fell in line with the Finance Ministry’s policy to widen loan access to homebuyers.

The first package involves Bt30 billion in lending, carrying an annual interest rate of 3.25 per cent in the first year before rising to 4 per cent in the second, 5 per cent in third year and 0 per cent during the 37th to 42th months.

Borrowers, eligible for 0 per cent rate, are those who have signed up for GHB All mobile financial service application. They will have to pay installments via the app.

For the 43th month until the end of the loan term, interest rates are set at MRR-0.75 per year for retail clients, and MRR-1 per cent a year for borrowers whose employers have entered into an agreement with GHB under which their salaries will be deducted for the monthly installmet payments to the bank.

Maximum lending is capped at Bt3 million with collaterals. Eligible borrowers must have a maximum monthly salary of Bt35,000. This loan package is available until December 30, 2020.

The other package “Dream Homes by GHB” comes with Bt10 billion in loans, carrying an interest rate of 3.25 per cent during the first to third years and MRR-2 per cent a year (equivalent to 4.50 per cent per year as of the present level ) for the fourth and fifth years.

The rate from the 61th to 66th month is 0 per cent per annum.

The rate from 67th month until the end of loan term is MRR-0.50 per cent per annum for retail clients and MRR-0.75 per cent per annum if the employer of the borrower had signed an MoU with GHB under the Corporate Synergy project.

Eligible borrowers must be free of any mortgage agreement with GHB or other banks. This package is available until December 30 this year.

The bank will also issue savings lotteries worth Bt50 billion next month. It will use the proceeds to develop a low-interest mortgage package offering Bt50 billion in loans.

In addition it will help clients who are state officials and state personnels restructure their debt.

Chatchai said that the bank is ready to support the government’s policies.

He added that GHB targeted Bt209 billion in new loans this year compared to Bt215.301 billion last year. Currently, its outstanding loan amount stands at more than Bt1.209 trillion, up 8.37 per cent from 2018.

Naver’s global webcomic biz on growth track

Naver Corp., South Korea’s top internet portal operator, is witnessing a growth in its webcomic business, which will eventually improve its earnings, industry sources said Friday.

Naver Webtoon, more commonly known as Line Webtoon in the United States, is home to a plethora of creator-owned content, ranging from romance to fantasy.

In particular, Naver Webtoon is showing marked growth in the United States after entering the market in 2014.

The number of its monthly active users, or MAUs, surpassed the 10 million mark in the US in November, nearly doubling from 2014.

Naver Webtoon recorded 60 million MAUs in the global market and is expected to bring in 600 billion won ($519 million) in content transactions this year.

Line Webtoon’s US content revenue grew to 13 billion won ($11.1 million) in the third quarter of 2019, up from 2 billion won in the first quarter, according to Naver’s corporate filing.

“Along with the steady two-digit growth in its ad business, we are expecting the webcomic operation to lead Naver’s content service business,” said Ju Young-hoon, an analyst at Eugene Investment & Securities.

“Naver already has about 60 million monthly users on a global level, meaning the webtoon operation can make inroads in the global market on its own,” Ju added.

With the growing global content revenue, he estimated Naver’s operating profit in 2020 to advance 47.1 percent to 1.03 trillion won, bouncing back from the previous year’s 26.2 percent fall.

Local brokerages continued to paint rosy pictures for Line Webtoon’s US revenue hike, citing the company’s fourth-quarter estimate by US market tracker Sensor Tower.

According to Sensor Tower data, Line Webtoon’s US downloads in the October-December period surged 61 percent on-year. The webtoon provider’s US operating profit reached 40 billion won, Sensor Tower estimated.

“In 2020, Naver’s webtoon has ample room for a value hike,” said Mirae Asset Daewoo analyst Park Jeong-yeob. “The US is a promising market, in terms of both content consumption and monthly active users.” (Yonhap)

5G milestone for SCG, AIS: Unmanned forklift run from 110km distant

Advanced Info Service (AIS) and business conglomerate SCG have signed a pact on 5G research and development for multiple projects.

They and Prince of Songkhla University on Friday (January 24) demonstrated the use of 5G technology for industry in operating an unmanned forklift from 110 kilometres away.

The forklift was at an SCG plant in Saraburi, the operator at SCG headquarters in Bangkok, using the 2.6-gigahertz bandwidth of the AIS 5G network to hoist and move around material.

“This industrial test paves the way to increased productivity and safety and opportunities for staff training by remote,” the companies declared in a press release.

They intend to build a 5G ecosystem to enhance sustainable innovation and increase Thailand’s industrial competitiveness and quality of life.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission will auction off four 5G spectra on February 16.

Wasit Wattanasap, head of National Network Operation and Support at of AIS, said the technology will “dramatically change the way we do things in Thailand”.

“Users will benefit in three ways: faster data speed, internet-of-things connectivity, and a stable and responsive network. Needless to say, developing a 5G ecosystem involves many players, including the government, companies and academics. Everyone has a part to play.”

Attapong Sathitmanothum, director – Mechanization Automation & Robotics (MARs) and Industry 4.0 at SCG, said his firm aimed to “improve work operations in various fields and business units, including cement and building materials, packaging and chemicals”.

“A working group in Mechanisation, Automation and Robotics [MARs] was established in 2016 to be a catalyst in levelling up the production process to create a ‘smart factory’.

“Investing more than Bt860 million during the first three quarters of 2019, SCG achieved predictive maintenance to notify us before a machine breaks down [‘smart maintenance’], use of robots in the laboratory [‘smart laboratory’], automated dispatching to deliver cement to customers automatically [‘smart dispatching’] and use of digital technology enabling data accessibility throughout the supply chain so that everyone can utilise the same data as a single, factual source, perform analytics to improve competitiveness and enhance responsiveness to customer needs.”

Attapong said 5G technology can strengthen SCG’s efficiency in many ways.

“Workers will be safer, especially with machinery in risky areas such as mines and confined spaces such as inside a cement kiln. Efficiency will be increased as the transmission of big data becomes easy.

“Several plants in different locations can send data to a control centre capable of managing information in real time. Customers will be more satisfied because logistics will become more effective.”

Associate Professor Dr Peerapong Teekasakul, director of Innovation Hub at Council of University Presidents of Thailand, noted that Prince of Songkhla University has, through its Institute of Research and Digital Innovation, been actively conducting research and development with the private and industry sectors.

“We co-study and co-test 5G technology in many dimensions, with the goals of building and preparing it for actual industrial use which, in turn, will increase competitiveness for Thai industry.”
