She is being treated at Thammasat University Hospital in Pathum Thani.

Panusaya said in a Facebook post that her friends and family knew about her state of health and posted her timeline from May 6, the day she was granted temporary release from the Central Women’s Correctional Institution.

Her timeline for the past week is as follows:

May 6: Central Women’s Correctional Institution, Criminal Court, Rama IX Hospital and home

May 7: Home

May 8: Home

May 9: Home

May 10: Home and a drive-through Covid-19 testing venue

May 11: Bangkok Remand Prison where her fellow protestors Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak and Chai-amorn Kaewwiboonpan were released from detention.

Apologising for unintentionally infecting people she may have come in contact with, Panusaya said she had been refused a Covid-19 test earlier because she had no symptoms of concern.

Two other protest leaders had also been infected with Covid-19 while in prison.

Protest leaders ‘Penguin’ and ‘Ammy’ granted bail

Pro-democracy protest leader Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak was granted bail on Tuesday after spending 93 days in detention, 53 of them on hunger strike.

Granted conditional release alongside Parit was singer-turned-democracy activist Chai-amorn Kaewwiboonpan, better known as Ammy Bottom Blues, who was detained for 70 days.

The Criminal Court set bail at THB200,000 for Parit and THB250,000 for Chai-amorn, releasing them on condition that they did not join activities that could cause unrest or insult the monarchy. They have also been barred from leaving the country.

Parit, 22, was sent to Bangkok Remand Prison on February 9 to await trial on charges of lese majeste and sedition for his role at rallies in September last year. He launched a hunger strike in March after the court repeatedly denied bail requests for himself and several other detained pro-democracy leaders.

Both Parit and Chai-amorn, 32, will be tested for Covid-19 on their release.

A bail hearing for fellow detained activist Panupong “Mike” Jadnok was postponed for him to have a second Covid-19 test. Panupong was exposed to Arnon Nampa, a detained pro-democracy activist who tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

The two were answering police summons to hear charges of violating Article 112 of the Criminal Code and changing the national flag.

On Tuesday, the two students – Vittaya Khangnil and Yodsunthorn Rattanapradit – visited Bhubing Rajanives Police Station to hear the charges. They were accompanied by almost 50 students.

Before arriving at the police station, Vitthaya took off his T-shirt and used a razor to cut the number 112 on his chest. Police immediately rushed to him, as they were afraid the student could be in physical danger from his action.

Some of his supporters tried to block the police, as they saw his action as a personal right. However, the tension eased later and the two students went into the police station, together with lawyers and some friends.

Detained pro-democracy activist Arnon Nampa has contracted the Covid-19 virus while in prison, the Department of Corrections said on Thursday.

Arnon, who has been in jail since February on charges of insulting the monarchy (lese majeste), is thought to have caught the virus from fellow detained protester Chukiat Sangwong, who tested positive on April 23.

Arnon, a 36-year-old human rights lawyer, is being treated in the prison hospital after his infection was confirmed on Wednesday, said the department.

Several protest leaders have been in jail for weeks on charges of lese majeste and sedition, with bail pleas repeatedly turned down.

Protest leader Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak is being treated in the same prison hospital as Arnon.

Parit, 22, was rushed to Ramathibodi Hospital suffering from fatigue after weeks on hunger strike in protest against detainment.

The department said he had recovered well enough to be moved to the prison hospital and was now able to consume milk, vitamins and electrolyte.

The lawyer for Parit and fellow protest leader Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul, 22, is due to make another request for bail in court today.

Thammanat not disqualified as MP over Australian drugs conviction: Court

The Constitutional Court ruled on Wednesday that Thammanat Prompao’s conviction in an Australian drugs case does not disqualify him from holding his posts as a Palang Pracharath Party MP and deputy agriculture minister.

The court said that under the sovereignty principle, Thai laws do not cover legal cases that occur overseas.

Australian court documents seen by BBC Thai show that Thammanat admitted to conspiring to import a commercial quantity of heroin to Australia on November 15, 1993. An Australian judge handed down the verdict in March 1994 and sentenced Thammanat to six years in jail. Thammanat was deported from Australia after being imprisoned for four years in Sydney, BBC Thai reported.

The campaigners say that since the 2014 coup, Prayut has used his authority for personal benefit and for the benefit of his supporters, which has caused problems in every aspect, ranging from the economy to the Covid-19 outbreak.

They also blamed Prayut for lacking the vision and leadership qualities expected of a prime minister.

“The public has been pushing for Prayut’s resignation, but the government has been limiting people’s freedom of expression and arresting those who show any opposition,” the campaign states.

“With so many people suffering from the impact of Covid-19, which has caused the number of patients and deaths to rise, we want Prayut to resign to show his responsibility.”

On April 25, another online group “Mor Mai Thon” (Doctors won’t tolerate) had launched a campaign demanding the resignation of Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

The campaign had exceeded its target of 200,000 signatures by the afternoon of April 27, so the group raised its target to 300,000 signatures.

As of 3.30pm on Monday, the campaign had collected 222,716 signatures.

Anutin rejects allegations of incompetence, refuses to quit

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on Tuesday that he will not resign, adding that medical staff at relevant agencies were still willing to cooperate with him.

Anutin rejects allegations of incompetence, refuses to quit

Earlier, an online group, “MorJaMaiThon” (Doctors Won’t Bear it Anymore) had launched a campaign demanding Anutin’s resignation.

The campaign, “Call for Minister of Public Health to resign due to failure to resolve the Covid-19 outbreak”, was launched at midnight on Friday via Change.org.

As of 8.57am on Tuesday – the campaign had drawn more than 197,397 signatures, very close to its target of 200,000 signatures.

However, some medics sent Anutin messages of support via Facebook, Line and phone calls, and the minister responded by thanking them on his Facebook page. He also posted messages saying he was willing to work with them for the sake of the people.

In his message, he explained that all policies, proposals and orders came from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), which was overseen by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“If the CCSA does not agree with the Public Health Ministry’s proposal, the ministry will have to improve the proposal until it can be approved,” he said, adding that the ministry always complied with CCSA’s policy since it was established in March last year.

He also called on people to avoid political conflicts as they will only affect the operation of medical officials.

“I confirm that there will be no seizure of authority because the prime minister is the leader of the government and director of CCSA,” he added.
