Two men were arrested after rangers at Prachin Buri’s Thap Lan National Park after real-time cameras installed around the park captured them walking around with weapons at around midnight on Saturday.

The rangers eventually hunted them down at the edge of the forest some three hours later.

The suspects allegedly confessed they had entered the park to hunt wild animals. Rangers confiscated two pistols, bullets, 26 snares (one with a wild boar’s leg), two motorbikes and several other devices from the suspects.

The detainees will be handed over to Wang Khon Daeng Police Station for further action.

The officials said many real-time cameras have been installed around the park because poachers often set snares and traps for wild animals there.

Opening of Suvarnabhumi’s new terminal postponed to Oct 2022 #SootinClaimon.Com

The Airports of Thailand (AOT) is planning to postpone the opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Satellite Terminal 1 (SAT 1) by six months from April to October next year.

AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said the company will provide Suvarnabhumi Airport’s passenger traffic and expense forecast at the next board meeting, so directors can consider the opening of SAT 1 by next October.

He said the terminal is fully built, but its system needs to be tested further as the number of passengers is still low.

“The airport’s expenses will hit 1 billion baht within three months once SAT 1 opens as its monthly operation costs stand at about 336 million baht,” he said. “Meanwhile, there are 40 or 50 aircraft parked near the new terminal as the tourism industry has not recovered yet.”

He said when SAT 1 opens next year, the aircraft parked nearby can be moved to the taxiway of the third runway, which should be built by then.

Related stories:

The number of passengers at AOT’s six airports dropped sharply due to the government’s travel restrictions over the past couple of years. For instance, August this year saw only 4,800 passengers or just 46 passengers daily.

Now that the government has lifted travel restrictions, the number of daily travellers has risen to between 10,000 and 15,000, a number that is expected to rise further.

The government hopes to reopen Bangkok and some towns in four provinces to foreigners without a quarantine requirement from November 1, government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said on Saturday.

The towns waiting to reopen are Muang, Mae Rim, Mae Taeng and Doi Tao in Chiang Mai, Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Cha-am in Phetchaburi and Pattaya City, Bang Lamung and Sattahip in Chonburi.

“These places will be reopened provided there are no big or serious infection clusters between now and November 1,” he said. “The other conditions for visitors are that they must be fully jabbed and test negative for Covid-19 before arrival.”

Thanakorn added that the government expects revenue from tourism in 2022 to reach 1.5 trillion baht, of which 850 billion baht will come from Thai tourists who are expected to take 160 million trips in total and 650 billion baht from 15 million foreign tourists.

“The 1.5-trillion-baht target is about half of the total tourism revenue earned in 2019 before Covid-19 hit Thailand,” he added.

Thanakorn also said that as of September 27, the Phuket Sandbox scheme which kicked off on July 1, has generated 2.33 billion baht in revenue. As of Thursday, there were 43,026 arrivals under this scheme and most of the tourists came from the United States, Israel, United Kingdom, Germany and France.
