Sitthichai Stuns Tawanchai To Win Close Split Decision In Main Event At ONE: BATTLEGROUND III

ONE Championship™ (ONE) returned with ONE: BATTLEGROUND III, a tape-delayed event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium that aired on Friday, 27 August. The show featured five exciting mixed martial arts contests and a high-level Muay Thai clash between striking stars.

In the main event, kickboxing legend Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong returned to Muay Thai and faced rising superstar Tawanchai PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym. Their matchup produced a scintillating display of fistic fireworks across three thrilling rounds of action.

Sitthichai stayed true to his word and put Tawanchai on the defensive as he inched forward behind powerful boxing combinations. Tawanchai countered with a steady stream of left kicks to the body to try and slow Sitthichai’s movement, but the veteran kept pressuring his younger opponent. Action intensified in the third round, as the two fighters exchanged their heaviest blows at the center of the Circle. In the end, Sitthichai did just enough to edge out Tawanchai by split decision.

In the co-main event, former ONE World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke turned in a masterful performance, overcoming a furious start from ONE Championship debutant Banma Duoji to earn a TKO victory. Dejdamrong faced a significant size disadvantage, as Banma used his height and reach to keep the smaller man at bay in the first round. Applying forward pressure, Dejdamrong found his range in the second round. The Thai veteran connected with flush right elbows to drop Banma and then finished him off with a knee strike to the head.

Chinese star Xie Wei authored a thrilling finish of highly regarded South Korean veteran Dae Hwan Kim to score his third straight knockout victory. Xie was sharp and powerful throughout the duration of the bout, as he kept Kim on the back foot with accurate and powerful striking. A devastating left hook to the body in the third round sent Kim crashing to the canvas, ending matters abruptly. Xie has now knocked out eight of his last nine opponents.

ONE ChampionshipONE Championship

In a highly anticipated women’s atomweight contest, Team Lakay’s Jenelyn Olsim overcame a spirited effort from Vietnamese-American talent Bi Nguyen to win a unanimous decision. It was a close striking battle through the duration of the bout, but Olsim pulled away slightly on the scorecards with her superior grappling and near-submissions.

South Korean veteran Song Min Jong banked on his experience to deal the previously unbeaten Tial Thang the first loss of his professional career. Song put together a well-rounded performance, utilizing his taekwondo style to stifle Tial Thang on the feet and dominating the Myanmar fighter in the grappling department to earn the unanimous decision on the scorecards.

Purev Otgonjargal kicked off ONE: BATTLEGROUND III with an exciting knockout victory, stopping Ben Royle just 49 seconds into the first round. After connecting with a perfectly timed right hand that dropped Royle, the Mongolian followed up with ground-and-pound to seal the deal.

Man United confirm Ronaldos return to Old Trafford

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

Manchester United website said the deal for the 36-year-old five-time Ballon d’Or winner was subject to personal terms, visa and a medical.

Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester,” said a United statement.

Ronaldo has opted to return to United where he spent six years and won three Premier League titles, one Champions League, two League Cups and one FA Cup – as well as the Fifa Club World Cup and Community Shield.

He scored 118 goals in 292 games.

Cristiano Ronaldo receives Manchester United contract offer after talks with Sir Alex Ferguson

The Manchester Evening News revealed United’s owners, the Glazer family, were prepared to hijack Ronaldo’s protracted move to Manchester City and City have since ended their interest in signing Ronaldo.

Ronaldo informed the Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri of his intention to leave the club on Thursday and United are working on a sensational homecoming for one of their greatest players.

Ferguson is understood to have reached out to Ronaldo on Friday morning after he seemed certain to join City. As of this morning, City were the only club interested in signing Ronaldo.

City coach Pep Guardiola said earlier: “Cristiano was at Juventus, I think a Juventus player. Only I can say that in three or four days left in the transfer window everything can happen.

“In my personal view there are few players, Ronaldo and Messi included, that they decide where they are going to play. They are the leading role in the negotiations. Right now I’m delighted with the squad we have and we’ll stay the same.

“Meanwhile, ongoing political issues would pressure the index,” Krungsri Securities added, referring to anti-government protests.

The 10 stocks with the highest trade value today were KBANK, INTUCH, EA, CPALL, PTT, PSL, GUNKUL, KCE, ADVANC and BBL.

Thailand’s battery-electric railway plans shunt forward

The Transport Ministry is pushing ahead with the procurement and development of battery electric railcars with the aim of having them running by 2023.

The Department of Rail Transport (DRT) and State Railway of Thailand (SRT) have been tasked with setting up a procurement plan as well as working out an operation budget, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said on Friday.

He added that SRT was also cooperating with educational institutes to come up with a design for battery-electric railcars, which will debut at the Bang Sue Grand Station.

“The ministry has also instructed electric railway service agencies to study electricity management to ensure the new railcars are efficiently operated,” he said, adding that the ministry may build a special power plant to power up the battery-electric railcars.

He said the ministry will study and design the new railcars this year, modify fossil-fuel locomotives into battery-electric ones in 2022 and conduct trial runs in 2023.

DRT, SRT, Railway Technology Development Institute and educational institutions are set to turn the four existing GEK or Alsthom locomotives into battery-electric ones by 2023.

“The procurement plan for battery-electric railcars will run until 2024, and the ministry is also planning to procure 20 battery shunting locomotives during that period,” he said.

6 Asian Pacific countries in top 10 to be the next rival to Silicon Valley #SootinClaimon.Com

6 Asian Pacific countries in top 10 to be the next rival to Silicon Valley

COVID-19 has rapidly accelerated new ways of working, but the world’s ‘technology hubs’ are here to stay, according to new research from KPMG, although they may not be in Silicon Valley.

When many offices and downtown areas locked down early in 2020, entire workforces shifted to remote-working, with some employees leaving major cities to find more space at a lower cost, among other factors. But tech leaders believe the industry’s future success will rely on a balance between physical workspace and greater flexibility.

More than 800 industry leaders were surveyed for the latest KPMG Technology Industry Survey. 39% believe ‘hub’ cities including London, Singapore, and Tel Aviv will continue to play a vital role, enabling talent to coalesce and collaborate in communities with a solid digital infrastructure. Only 22% believe hubs are no longer important. The findings echo earlier research from the 2021 KPMG CEO Outlook pulse survey, which revealed 78% of tech leaders have no plans to downsize their physical footprint and only a quarter (26%) expect to hire predominantly remote talent in the future.

ADVERTISEMENTx

Alex Holt, Global Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications at KPMG, said:

“The success of the technology sector has outpaced most other industries during COVID-19, with many companies growing significantly since the start of the pandemic. This has advanced the perception that creativity and innovation can now happen literally anywhere as collaboration has gone more virtual and more global. However, a company still needs to be able to innovate, and the KPMG Technology Innovation Hub reveals that physical workplaces and innovation hubs remain a key component of technology companies’ strategies, although they may not be located around Silicon Valley.

“Engineering talent and intellectual property are the lifeblood of the tech industry, and retaining top talent is a strategic imperative. Employers know this and are striving towards flexible work arrangements, including permanent hybrid workforce models. As the workforce disperses geographically, new hotbeds of technically skilled workers will emerge.”

Industry insiders were also asked to rank cities around the world, outside of Silicon Valley, that they believe will flourish as technology innovation hubs in the next four years. The cities making the top 10 all had strong ecosystems in place before the pandemic, enabling them to emerge stronger – and potentially provide a real challenge to Silicon Valley – as the world prepares for a post-COVID recovery.

There are a few movers to note in the top ten from last year’s survey. Seoul, ranked eight last year, dropped out of the top ten to tie for fourteenth this year while, Austin and Seattle, ranked eleventh and twenty-fourth respectively last year, moved up to share tenth spot in 2021.

Interestingly, six of the top ten cities in the ranking are from the Asia Pacific region. Darren Yong, Asia Pacific Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications at KPMG, commented:

“We are seeing Asia take a leading position in innovation across the world and as highlighted in this report, more than 50 percent of these top innovation hubs are based in this region. Asian cities will continue to be a hotbed of creativity and we expect even more activity as organizations invested in Asia look to further disrupt business models to capture the world’s largest consumer population.”

While Silicon Valley is known as the dominant region in global technology, only one third of leaders feel strongly that it will maintain its long-term innovation leadership position with an equal number believing it won’t.

Alex Holt added:

“To the respondents that previously answered that physical hubs are very important, KPMG asked what the likelihood is that the technology innovation center of the world will move away from Silicon Valley to another location in the next four years. One-third (32 percent) feel strongly that Silicon Valley will maintain its leadership position over the next four years but interestingly, the same number also strongly believe it won’t. Companies of different size have slightly divergent views on this. Thirty-eight percent of large technology enterprises think Silicon Valley will keep its leadership position but only 27 percent of small/start-up companies feel this way. Mid-market companies are in the middle at 32 percent.

“What’s apparent from our research is that tech leaders are listening to their people and shaping policies and views on their future strategies based on the needs and aspirations of their workforce and the benefits and challenges different working models create. The industry has a reputation for being at the forefront of new ways of working, and it’s my view that COVID-19 has simply accelerated that sense of innovation and progressive change. There is no one-size-fits-all approach and we’re already seeing some industry divergence. While there are some big unanswered questions about long-term workforce models, the sector seems to be embracing the opportunity to build a truly hybrid structure, combining the thriving ecosystems of tech hubs with the agility, balance and access-to-talent that remote working offers.”

Samut Sakhon eases lockdown measures

Barber shops and markets will be allowed to open in Samut Sakhon province with certain conditions.

The move follows relaxation of lockdown measures announced on Friday by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration in 29 “dark red” provinces.

The province on Friday issued an order of the Samut Sakhon communicable disease committee, which is chaired by governor Weerasak Wichitsaensri, stipulating that barber shops and beauty salons, excluding aesthetic clinics, will be allowed to open for hair-cutting service only. A customer must not spend more than one hour in the shops, while owners must set up a suitable appointment system to reduce crowding.

The order also said that fresh markets, weekend markets, floating markets, wholesale markets, night markets and walking street or similar venues will be allowed to open for a maximum of eight hours per day. The operator must notify opening hours to the local administration office and employ disease control measures at the venues.

Officials will be deployed to inspect the markets and could order the market shut if disease control measures are violated.

The order is to be effective immediately until further notice.

Anti-graft agency to probe unusual wealth of sacked police station chief

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will investigate the finances of Pol Colonel Thitisan Uthanapol, the former chief of Nakhon Sawan Police Station, within 30 days of the Royal Thai Police completing their investigation into the custodial death of a drug suspect allegedly caused during interrogation by Thitisan, said Niwatchai Kasemmongkol, deputy secretary-general of the NACC on Friday.

Complaints were filed against Thitisan by other officers that he had allegedly demanded THB2 million from two suspects, a man and a woman, in a narcotics case. He was also accused of suffocating the man to death with a plastic bag on August 5. Thitisan then allegedly ordered the doctor to attribute the death to a drug overdose and told the woman to keep quiet before releasing her.

Thitisan was fired from the force on Wednesday and was arrested on Thursday in Chonburi province. He has reportedly admitted that the suspect’s death was caused by a new interrogation technique gone wrong and that he was solely responsible for the case.

Niwatchai said the NACC believes that Thitisan, also known on social media as “Jo Ferrari” from his lavish lifestyle as a sport car enthusiast, has become unusually wealthy. Thitisan reportedly owns a luxurious house and a number of sport cars, in additional to several million baht in other assets.

Meanwhile, National Police chief Pol General Suwat Jangyodsuk said on Friday that he has ordered Pol General Manu Mekmok, deputy national police chief of narcotics, to launch investigations on all drug cases from command headquarters to local police station levels to find any misconduct by police officers. “Commanders must be held responsible if complaints were filed against their subordinates regarding misconduct or disciplinary violation under their watch,” he insisted.

Incentives for promotion of electric vehicles to be announced next month

Tax incentives and other measures supporting electric vehicles (EV) will be unveiled in September, Minister of Energy Supattanapong Punmeechaow told a seminar on Friday.

These measures will encourage manufacturers and users to invest in EVs, he said.

The measures would be implemented without waiting for market demand and they would come out along with infrastructure to support EVs, he added.

Supattanapong said that these measures are a part of the 30/30 policy under which 30 per cent of automotive manufacturing in Thailand must be EVs by 2030, or nine years from now.

He said Thailand must be a leader in the automotive industry in the region. There must be more EV charging stations at home and in public places. There must be an investment in the battery industry and parts. Used batteries must also be managed because they are an important part of EVs and high cost, he said.

The 30/30 policy is one of the policy directions under the national energy plan by the National Energy Policy Council chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The target is for Thailand to use clean energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions to zero or carbon neutrality by 2065-70.
